Unofficial Pawnbroker?[edit]

Does Hamlof's bugged nature mean that any item sold to this merchant will never disappear from the game? It appears that he can be used as a sort of pawnbroker: a merchant you can sell an item if you ever have the lingering hope of reclaiming later on. — Unsigned comment by 4.131.214.139 (talk) at 18:26 on 17 November 2007‎ (UTC)

Necromancer/Invisible?[edit]

It seems that he tends to wear things that you sell him if it's better that what he owns. I sold him necromancers robes which he wears despite being obviously frowned apon, he also wore a charmeleon ring i once sold him and he became invisible. I wonder if you could kill him by selling him a ring which damages the wearer? — Unsigned comment by 86.143.86.216 (talk) at 18:54 on 25 March 2008‎ (UTC)

Sell him the Blackwood Ring of Silence and report back. =) IWon'tFightUndead 15:15, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
This is hardly unique to Hamlof. Pretty much ALL NPC merchants will equip what you sell them if it's more valuable than what they've got on. The Blackwood Ring may be iffy, because its value is rather low. (The monetary value is the only number they look at - NPCs can't make judgement calls about the other stats on an item.) The only other thing that can affect this is their armor/weapon preference. If an NPC has a higher Light Armor skill than Heavy Armor, they may not wear a piece of Heavy Armor you sell them even if it is more valuable, and vice versa. Likewise with Blade vs. Blunt vs. Marksman. Whichever of the three is highest will be their preference. (Not sure what happens if Hand to Hand is highest - they may eschew all weapons in that case. Probably not many people this applies to though.) Clothing, of course, is not affected by skills, so it is most universal. And I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed that you can enchant an item with a curse which damages the wearer and sell it to merchants to kill them without receiving a bounty. (Though this may not work with certain quests which require you to land the killing blow yourself.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 23:43, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

Trivia[edit]

Am I the only one who find it interesting that he is a nord and is named Hamlof Red-Tooth?

Yes, I am thinking of the Norse/Danish king Harold Blue-Tooth. I wonder what Hamlof likes instead of Blueberries? ;)
