Overhaul[edit]

This page needs work and I want to do some of it myself. But before I start I would appreciate (and find it prudent to ask for) some advice/input from other community members. I was thinking of subdividing some of the sections based on dialogue topic perhaps similarly to how it's done in Radiant Conversations I was also intending to flesh it out as this list is FAR from comprehensive. To that end I was hoping that there exists some way of extracting the generic dialogue from the game files or better yet a resource where all the dialogue has already been extracted but not organised.

If anyone knows of such things please reply, if anyone has any suggestions for improving the page then please reply, and if anyone would like to contribute perhaps we could collaborate somehow to avoid overlapping our work (please reply).--Jinxmaster1 (talk) 21:18, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

I would remove anything from this page already covered on Oblivion:Radiant Conversations or Oblivion:Rumors. Those pages also need expansion to completely cover their topics.
After that, this page will still be missing generic dialogue of at least these types:
  • Barter Dialogue
  • Combat Dialogue
  • Crime Dialogue (intruder, thief, etc.)
  • Generic Greetings
  • Guard Dialogue
  • Persuasion Dialogue
  • Miscellaneous?
  • Also check to see if idle dialogue exists in the game, when an NPC is alone. I can't recall any.
Generic Greetings may be long enough to become its own page, like Radiant Conversations and Rumors. In any case, the first six entries in that list should have redirects here to complement such pages as Skyrim:Guard Dialogue. You can check out Morrowind:Generic Dialogue and Online:Generic Dialogue for other ways to cover this type of content. As a reminder, the DLC generic dialogue would go here under the Oblivion namespace, while Shivering Isles would get its own coverage in the Shivering namespace.
Your best bet to find these dialogue lines is the Construction Set. CSList will have them, but sorting through them will take forever. —Dillonn241 (talk) 21:41, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
There is a way to export dialogue from the Construction Set: once the .esm is loaded, go to File->Export->Dialogue and the dialogue will be exported into a tab-delimited .txt file. Unfortunately there's no way (AFAICS) to filter the dialogue before exporting it,so you'll get a file with all the dialogue in the game; you'd have to filter the resulting .txt file afterward to get what you want. — Wolfborn(Howl) 00:21, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
Looking at the CSList I think the way to go would be to just play the game, spending extra time "people" watching, screenshot every subtitle then periodically sort through them all with the help of the CSList to get any additional info on the dialogue. Gonna be a slow process for the sake of my own sanity so if anyone else does any feel free to add any discovered lines as you go as I won't be likely to find every last one and will likely take a while to get most of them. I'll also try to export the dialogue myself in hopes that it gives more data in one file as the CSList requires you to follow the link to each item to get extra info, and only shows 100 items per page out of over 40k.--Jinxmaster1 (talk) 17:42, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
