"One time I was in the Anvil mages guild and he attacked me for no reason. Last time I added this somone deleted. If you feel it does not belong here, please tell me why. you can contact me at talonsmiles@hotmail.com"

This comment has been deleted twice because it is a first person story that is not appropriate for a wiki page. See for example the wiki Style Guide. Given that 100 other people have been to the Anvil mages guild and never been attacked by Baeralorn, how does it help any reader to tell them that there is a negligible chance that they could trigger a glitch that makes Baeralorn attack them? Especially if you have no idea what caused it in the first place. If you could provide more useful input that would actually be of interest to readers, it would not get deleted. For example, "If you kill Baeralorn's pet rats that he uses for his experiments, he is likely to attack you" (assuming any of it was true) would actually be a helpful comment. --Nephele 11:59, 19 October 2006 (EDT)

One time I was in the Anvil mages guild and he attacked me when I got his disposition below 20 and he said "stop talking to me!" I do know how this is triggered now, and I have confirmed it on 3 additional test characters.Explanation: Please do not delete it as I have fixed what the original poster said was wrong with my addition. please delete this explanation after you have read it.

Yet again, I'm deleting this comment. Basically, any character will attack you if you lower their disposition far enough. There is no need to add to each of the 1000 NPC pages "this person will attack you if you lower their disposition". I don't see why you think it is so vitally important to add this bit of trivia to this NPC page. --Nephele 15:33, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

I think I may have beaten you to it. Feel free to make whatever modifications to the version I have up, as I don't know much about Baeralorn. --Aristeo 15:36, 20 October 2006 (EDT)
No problem. I also decided to temporarily semi-protect the page to try to force any followup discussion to get moved to the talk page. If you think that's going too far, you know how to change it :) --Nephele 15:45, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

Actually I don't know how to use the talk pages. I only know how to edit the file. I dont know how to change it. Also I have tested many other NPC's disposition and they never attacked me except for Ontus Vanin. If you would like to assume I am some immature child, it is your opinion and I respect that. However, I am very experienced at this game and know alot about it, so I am not some new player who doesn't know anything.

You use the talk pages just the same way as the main page: you edit it and add what you have to say, as you just did. Thanks for adding your comments here.
I have had a couple NPCs attack me after lowering their disposition to values near 0, so I know this is not something that is unique to Baeralorn (or Ontus Vanin, for that matter). As explained at Disposition the entire combat system is based on disposition: the only reason why bandits or necromancers or whatever other enemy NPC attacks you on sight is because they have a -100 disposition modifier towards you. There may be different cutoffs at which different NPCs decide to become hostile, and perhaps Baeralorn for some reason has a higher cutoff than other NPCs. But if so, I think it would be more useful to figure out what that factor is, and make a more general statement (perhaps on the disposition page), than to incorrectly single out Baeralorn as the only NPC who will attack you.
And I haven't been assuming you are an immature child. It's just that your edits have ignored several conventions of how things are done on the wiki. Main pages (i.e., Oblivion:Baeralorn) are strictly for content; they should try to have an encyclopedia-style presentation and should only contain information intended for all readers. Any comments (i.e., questions about why something was deleted, discussion of relevance, etc) belong on the talk page. Also, email is generally not used for these types of discussions: using the talk page allows anyone who is interested to participate in the conversation. I understand that you're new to the wiki, and it can take a while to learn how things are done. If you have any questions about the wiki feel free to ask (for example, on my talk page). --Nephele 15:25, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

It is mentioned in the text that he wears a "Vest of Deflection" (His garment is particularly noteworthy since he will always wear an enchanted Vest of Deflection.). Doesn't he actually wear a "Robe of Deflection"?

Yes indeed. Thanks. Now changed. –RpehTCE 13:04, 17 February 2009 (EST)

Necromancer's cult[edit]

Does this means that he will attack you on sight if you are in the Mages Guild/Arch Mage? — Unsigned comment by 172.143.254.234 (talk)

No, but he won't like you as much. This page shows that members of the Mages Guild get a -30 disposition penalty. In other words, the most Baeralorn will ever like you is 70 in the persuasion minigame (unless you use a charm spell). So whilst he won't attack on site, he is more likely to be unpleasant to you. --RpehTalk 09:50, 25 August 2007 (EDT)

If somehow (don't ask me how) a necromancer appeared in front of him would they fight or not? Aldage 00:25, 8 October 2007 (EDT)

He gets a +100 boost to disposition towards necromancers because he's also in the Necromancer's Cult so I'm going to guess "No". Can't be 100% sure though. You could try spawning one in front of him using the console. Of course, if you and the necromancer start fighting there's a whole other set of factors come into play such as his relationship with you. --RpehTalk 00:33, 8 October 2007 (EDT)

I got his disposition up to 100. I am an Altmer Evoker. I tried to get him to attack me, so i went to his disposition, and it was 100. I've never talked to the guy before.--Arch-Mage Matt 00:09, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Keep in mind that being in the Mages Guild gives you +20 disposition with all members for each rank you have, so once you become an Apprentice by completing the recommendation quests (and Join the Mages Guild) your +40 bonus outweighs the -30 penalty (unless, of course, the Necromancers Cult penalty is also per rank). With such conflicted allegiances, I wonder what Baeralon's disposition would be toward himself? 170.140.105.1 04:08, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

His specialty[edit]

Does he ever actually cast spells on rats in the game?

Alchemy Equipment[edit]

The only reason I can find for why he would be carrying a Novice Alembic is that his "BaeralornNecromancy" AI package is a "Use Item At" package that specifies he should use any piece of alchemy apparatus while standing at the bench in his private quarters. So I'm assuming that means that while he's at the bench, he actually picks up one of the pieces of equipment located there. The questions that come to mind are then:

  • Is he only carrying the equipment while he is standing at the bench? Or does he keep it in his inventory for the rest of the day?
  • Will he randomly pick up any of the pieces of equipment on the bench?
  • Will he only pick up one piece of equipment at a time?
  • Does the corresponding piece of equipment disappear from his bench while he's carrying it?

Any chance one of our resident NPC stalkers ;) would be able to investigate some of these questions? Thanks! --NepheleTalk 01:54, 9 March 2009 (EDT)

Sorry, just noticed your questions this morning - and took a look more at Baerlorn, this time with my Level 2 character. I met him for the first time at the Guild, where he was NOT carrying any Alembic. I snuck into his room in the Private Quarters, noticed the Alembic standing on his table. He then entered the room and TOOK the Alembic (yes, it dissapeared from the bench) and started working. At 6am, he went to bed, still carrying the Alembic.
As theres also a Mortar & Pestle, a Calcinator and a Retort present on his table, and as I figured he would probably never drop the Alembic once it was picked up, I loaded my Level 38 game (kindda easier to sneak around) and went to the Castle. Here, I pickpocketed the Alembic and went outside and waited until the next night. Snuck into his quarters, made sure all 3 apparatus was on his desk. He arrived, and took the Mortar & Pestle this time. Conclusions so far;
* He will only pick up a piece of apparatus, if youre in the Private Quarters - and will only pick up one piece at a time.
* Once picked up, he will not drop the apparatus, but will carry it around until someone steals it from him.
* I don't think he picks up the items in random order, even though I can't be too sure. But he picked up the Alembic two times in a row, on on both my level 2 and 38 saves.
* Yes, the apparatus dissapears from his desk when he picks it up.
For fun, I also tried to remove all equipment from his desk. When he arrived, he just sat down in his chair, without working at all.
Hope, that cleared up this little mystery - under all circumstances, it deserves some kind of note on his main page. Krusty 05:55, 17 March 2009 (EDT)
