Problem[edit]

Oblivion's Official Patch fails to install.

Cause - Oblivion Is Already Patched[edit]

GOTY users, if you installed disc 2, the game is already patched to the latest version. The same is true for users who have already installed the latest official patch for Oblivion and later installed SI. The SI patch makes the same changes. It only differs because installing the SI expansion changes some of the original files that would throw off the non-SI official patch.

Cause - Localization Mismatch[edit]

The official patch needs to be of the same language as the original game.

Solution: Download the patch matching your version of Oblivion. You can check the language by right-clicking on Oblivion.exe (in <Oblivion Install Path>\Oblivion), choosing Properties and looking at the 'Language' field of the Details tab.

Cause - Previously Installed Beta Patch[edit]

If you previously installed a beta version of an Oblivion patch on your current install, the official patch update may fail.

Solution: Missing solution... Maybe Uninstalling Oblivion|reinstall Oblivion]]...

Cause - Previously Installed Beta Patch[edit]

If you previously installed a beta version of an Oblivion patch on your current install, the official patch update may fail.

Solution: Download the patch matching your version of Oblivion. You can check the language by right-clicking on Oblivion.exe (in <Oblivion Install Path>\Oblivion), choosing Properties and looking at the 'Language' field of the Details tab.

Additional Information[edit]

To check Oblivion's version, right right-click on Oblivion.exe (in <Oblivion Install Path>\Oblivion) and view it's properties. The version number is also displayed in the bottom-left corner of Oblivion's main menu.
