Transportation While Levitating[edit]

Today I noticed a problem when I took a boat while using a Constant-Effect levitation ring. When I arrived I could not move -- forward, back, up, down, nowhere. I had to remove the ring, after which I could move fine --Brf 09:58, 7 May 2008 (EDT)

Recent edit: The AI of walking creatures with Levitate cast on them does not take the effect into account when moving. In other words, they will not fly, but walk, even when levitating.[edit]

The spell is called levitate, not Fly. This note seems to imply that we know how the AI works in this case, which I'm not sure we do, and whether the AI is even responsible for animation effects? Thus I'm not sure this note actually enhances the wiki entry or is necessarily correct. Maybe reworded to be: "The movement animation effect for any creature, NPC or the main character affected with the Levitate spell is unchanged."..? Or removed? — Unsigned comment by Rob-nick (talkcontribs) on 20 March 2010

I've removed it for now as it wasn't very clear exactly what was meant. The main text already points out that the effect can be used offensively, which seems a better way of describing what happens than that note was. rpeh •TCE 07:34, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Actually, I've run a few tests by making a 20 second Levitate on Target spell, and levitating my own character. If you cast Levitate on them, then on yourself, and you start to go up, they will, in fact, rise with you if they're engaged in combat with you. I've used this to kill many enemies quickly...fall damage can't be resisted or absorbed by any means. 75.196.110.27 19:26, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

speed?[edit]

The speed is determined by the value M and speed. But what is the formula?

animation[edit]

anyone know of a mod that changes the levitate animation? i think the whole walk on air thing looks rather silly. what would be cool is halving the fall animation instead. thank you

Wrong info?[edit]

"If you cast a Levitate spell, and then use fast travel, the spell will continue to its full duration as if the travel was instantaneous, even though in game-time it can take hours on certain routes." this is on the page. As far as I know there is no fast travel in Morrowind unless you count the boats and other forms of transport.--Raleka 06:44, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

"Fast travel" means boats, striders etc. rpeh •TCE 09:28, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
I believe you get instant travel only in mages guild, almsivi and divine intreventions. Boats and silt striders count hours of time. I often use booze to max out my carrying capability and running from vivec boat to vivec silt strider (it's obviously less time than booze works). When i arrive to the Seyda Neen or Balmora, effect wears off the same second, so it's not instant travel for effects. Oxyk 14:57, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Levitation as a weapon[edit]

I haven't tested this yet, but wouldn't a levitate 1pt for 100s (or something like that) on target cause your enemy to move unbelievably slow? And wouldn't it always hit target because its a positive effect? If so it would be a great spell for archers and people using long range destruction. — Unsigned comment by 83.94.246.228 (talk) on 10 December 2010

That is already mentioned in the article, in the second paragraph.--Brf 15:41, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Has this been verified? I tried a 1pt Levitate spell on some Cliff Racers but the just fall slowly to the ground, WITHOUT taking fall damage. I'm running the PC version 1.2.0722.Salamangkero 06:46, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
It may depend on the duration and how high up they are. I'd think in order for it to work, the Levitate effect would need to expire before they hit the ground, so if they're already pretty low, or the duration of the effect were too long, it wouldn't work. That said, I've not tested this, and can't right now since I don't have MW installed, sadly. But I do remember this working, as we used to joke that this was the secret weapon Jiub used to rid the world of Cliff Racers forever, and also maybe the reason they outlawed Levitation shortly afterwards. (Yes, I know the real reason was because it would break Oblivion's walled cities, but it was funnier that way.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:00, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
I've tested this multiple times, both on enemies and myself, and have never gotten it to work. I suspect it's a feature of the MPP, because even when under the effects of a Levitate spell of magnitude 1, targets still move at a rate based on their Speed.FrozenWolf150 (talk) 13:45, 20 January 2013 (GMT)

Glitch with levitation on cast when strikes[edit]

I've got annoying glitch with levitation enchantment. I have enchanted indoril shield to absrorb health, absorb agility and levitate 1pt for 8s on touch. Similar enchantment got silver spear (levitate 1pt for 5s, fire damage 2-15pt cast when strikes). The items itself work fine. the thing is, when enemy dies, he always fail thru the floor to the oblivion i believe, because tcl'ing got me to loop to the place where i started. I can see body deep down, but can't get to it. Looks like when enemy levitates and dies in process, he misses collision. Looks like i have spent 40k for nothing ( Oxyk 14:47, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Levitation vs. Levitation + Fortify Speed[edit]

A simple spell "Levitation 1 point + Fortify Speed 9 pts" seems to have equal effect to "Levitate 10 pts" spell, but is a lot cheaper to cast. Should it be added to the article?

Is it always more efficient to use Fortify Speed x with Levitate 1 rather than increase the magnitude of Levitate by x? If so it's probably worth mentioning with the note that it'll be governed by Restoration instead of Alteration. 1.123.132.254 14:03, 20 October 2013 (GMT)
Addition: According to OpenMW tests your speed stat and levitation magnitude are added together to get the movement speed. In my quick test Speed+Levitate seemed to have slightly less effect than pure Levitate but it's still vastly more efficient. The only caveats are that as an enchantment, the Levitate effect must be first due to compound effects. And again, for spells it may not be governed by Restoration instead of Alteration, apparently it depends on your magic skill levels, not like in Oblivion where it depends on the most expensive effect. 139.168.198.158 00:41, 27 October 2013 (GMT)

Levitate Points[edit]

I crated my "Flying Long Bow" from a Bonemold, with a Golden Saint Soul. When I created it, as a constant effect I was scared that I could only put 2 pts into it. What do the pts mean? — Unsigned comment by 47.16.86.49 (talk) at 12:43 on 9 October 2014

Pts means Points, in this case indicating the enchantment's magnitude. The magnitude of a Levitation enchantment determines the speed with which you move while levitating. So if you create a constant effect Levitate 2 pts enchantment, your movement will be very slow. -- SarthesArai Talk 13:27, 9 October 2014 (GMT)

Levitate as an alternative 'Burden' doesn't seem to work anymore[edit]

Running the GOTY edition and MCP. It's likely this was patched at some point. I made two custom spells and tested them both, one with a 0 magnitude levitation and one with 0-3, each with a duration of 30 seconds. Casting either of them on cliff racers would make them slowly drop if they were high up, but otherwise move at a normal speed and take no fall damagen. The only effect it had on NPCs was to play the sound when hitting the ground over and over again. 65.129.157.239 08:02, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
