Hand-to-hand (not) a normal weapon?[edit]

I did a test on a summoned Ancestral Ghost, hitting it just fine with my bare hands. Normal Weapons are defined as made from Iron or Steel, see Resist Normal Weapons for details. --BenouldTC 01:32, 11 April 2008 (EDT)

Damage formulas?[edit]

I noticed that damage formulas for hand-to-hand are conspicuously absent. All I can determine is that Strength bonuses do not apply and that the Skill level also dictates damage. — Unsigned comment by 32.155.226.155 (talk) at 16:44 on 6 November 2008 (EST)

I can only find three GMST's relating to Hand-to-Hand. The fHandtoHandReach (which probably just determines the range) is set to 1.0, and the fHandtoHandHealthPer and the fMinHandToHandMult are both set to 0.1, (The fWereWolfHandtoHand value is set to 100.0, though this I believe just means that your H2H skill is set to 100 when you are a Werewolf.) Presumably other factors might be involved - Luck usually is, and Speed is the governing attribute of H2H, so that might make a difference. There's also the possibility that your Fatigue might determine how effective your H2H attacks are. Some experimentation would need to be done to determine how those values relate to your actual damage. --TheRealLurlock Talk 16:44, 6 November 2008 (EST)

H2H damage works as follows:[edit]

Fatigue damage = Hand to Hand skill * a value between fMinHandToHandMult (0.1) and fMaxHandToHandMult (0.5)

This value depends of the time you retain the blow. So a quick blow will inflict 10% of your skill in Fatigue damage. A strong blow will inflict up to 50% of your skill in Fatigue damage.

Health damage = Fatigue damage * fHandtoHandHealthPer (0.1) * fCombatKODamageMult (1.5)

fCombatKODamageMult: Damage by any weapon is multiplied by 1.5 against a KOed character.

Formula[edit]

This was posted by Hrnchmd on the official forums, I don't see it here or in any other permanent location (official forum threads are regularly pruned):

Hand-to-hand
Damage taken when a hand-to-hand hit connects.

On hand-to-hand hit

where werewolfClawMult is the global script variable WerewolfClawMult, default 25.0
and swing is the swing power, range [0..1]

x = handToHandSkill * fMinHandToHandMult
if actor is werewolf: x *= werewolfClawMult
x = floor(x)

y = handToHandSkill * fMaxHandToHandMult
if actor is werewolf: y *= werewolfClawMult
y = floor(y)
y = max(x, y)

d = x + swing * (y - x)

if target is still standing:
        fatigue damage = d
else:
        health damage = d * fHandtoHandHealthPer * fCombatKODamageMult

Comments

Pretty standard. The MCP hand-to-hand option adjusts this mechanic (health damage only) by multiplying the final amount by (strength / 40).

This can be summarized as:

damage = skill * (min + swing * (max - min))

This is a bit more in-depth than the formula posted by Flo above. Source: forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1097214-gameplay-mechanics-analysis/ --Gez (talk) 17:01, 9 September 2013 (GMT)

A little secret about H2H...[edit]

Something I've found that most people don't know is that if you paralyze an enemy before engaging it with your fists, it will go straight to damage without having to drain fatigue first. This makes the Lover sign that much better!

uses for H2H[edit]

Forget killing stuff with H2H instead use as a primary skill and attack summoned creatures with it. I want to use a skill to get the ten points use H2H. I have not damaged one summon creature with it. But then I have only used a 20 sec summon skeleton skillMrp8196 02:08, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

H2H Only deals damage to the opponents Fatigue, until they collapse from the fatigue damage. once they are on the ground, you begin kicking them for real damage. Generally not worth it, Unless you are a Kahjiit or Argonian, Who have diffrent stances and attack with claws. Actually, I POse this question to the memeber of the community: Do Beast races gain a H2H damage bonus form the claws, do Health damage in addition to fatigue, or is there no effect? 184.77.194.254 00:22, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
I seem to find that H2H is better for killing one strong enemy than a few weak ones. I could kill Vivec at level 7 but I couldn't handle three bonewalkers. 174.102.125.117 18:03, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

If you knock a character unconscious, can you steal stuff lying around near them without adding to your bounty?--PouncingAnt 13:21, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Just cheated and tried this on Ra'virr. While unconscious he didn't notice me take anything, my bounty only went up when he woke up and saw me nicking all his gold (of course I got into a little trouble for knocking him out in the first place though).--PouncingAnt 13:55, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Looting unconscious NPCs?[edit]

I seem to remember that in the original, unpatched, non GOTY version of Morrowind, you could loot an NPC's items while they were knocked out, so long as the items weren't equipped. However, it's very possible that I am mistaken. Anybody know whether this was possible? Just to clarify, I'm completely aware it's not possible in the more recent versions of the game. — Unsigned comment by 209.65.48.3 (talk) at 23:55 on 13 April 2013

I played the unpatched version for many, many hours, and I never experienced this. But, that was a long time ago and I may be misremembering. Jeancey (talk) 16:43, 14 April 2013 (GMT)
You definitely can In GOTY with MCP, but even opening their inventory is a crime. --DCChuckles (talk) 06:51, 10 May 2013 (GMT)

Hand-to-hand Playstyles[edit]

Has anyone found a good Hand-to-hand playstyle? The only one I could come up with was Imperial with The Lover, as the Imperial' s Star of the West (?) negates The Lover's drain fatigue. This basically means nearly a minute of pure Hand-to-hand damage, but are there any better ways to play?--DCChuckles (talk) 14:36, 8 May 2013 (GMT)

Actually, I have recently found hand to hand to be an awesome playstyle (someone told me to play as a drunk monk..... ugh). I usually alternate between using hand to hand, and some form of magic, to allow my fatigue some time to recover. Jeancey (talk) 16:54, 8 May 2013 (GMT)
Sounds like a good idea. I assume absorb fatigue spells/enchantments will be helpful, and a high willpower/endurance maybe? -DCChuckles (talk) 06:39, 10 May 2013 (GMT)

No joinable factions favor Hand-to-Hand?[edit]

Should there at least be a note mentioning that none of the factions that the player can join have hand-to-hand as a favored skill? — Unsigned comment by 104.158.70.98 (talk) at 04:15 on 31 March 2022 (UTC)
