Queen is Not Blighted[edit]

This time, as with one previous occasion when I attempted this quest, I've gone into the eggmine only to find that the queen is not blighted. (I also noticed that when tending to the orc who left his broken ax with the miner he killed.) I also searched all over the eggmine, including into Bethamez and out the far entrance and back through, and cannot find a second queen.

Even so, I cast Vivec's Touch on the queen twice, but since she isn't blighted, the journal doesn't update, so when I go back to the General, he doesn't believe me when I tell him I cured the blighted queen, and wants me to go back to make sure.

(Of course, I'm not permitted to tell him the queen isn't blighted. After all, a lowly Trooper simply doesn't tell a General that he's wrong. Now, if only the Spearmen around here had some concept of rank, and would stop ordering a higher-ranking soldier to, "Move along", and demanding to know, "Why aren't you at your post?")

The last time this happened, I went away and tended to other quests for a while, and when I came back to Gnisis, the queen was then blighted, and I was able to carry out the quest. Other times when I've come to this quest everything went as it should. Downstrike (talk) 01:21, 28 February 2013 (GMT)

Only after going back and discussing the conclusion of the previous quest with Widow Vabdas, does Vivec's Touch cure the queen; the fact that Darius had issued the next quest wasn't sufficient.
The queen still didn't display as being blighted, but at least the Journal updated when I cast the spell. Downstrike (talk) 02:12, 28 February 2013 (GMT)

I see that the usual unwarranted reverting has occurred. To wit:

The existing Note describes a situation in which one has attempted to cure the Kwama Queen prematurely; before receiving the quest, and the Journal does not update until one returns to the Queen's lair. What Jeancey deleted describes a situation in which one repeatedly tries to cure the Kwama Queen after receiving the quest, but the Journal does not update until one casts the cure once more, but only after discussing the previous quest with Widow Vabdas.

Either the Note is incorrect, or it describes a different situation. I will therefore restore the Bug. Downstrike (talk) 22:27, 18 March 2013 (GMT)

Concerns about New Editing[edit]

Thank you Xyzzy, for adding the bug template; I didn't realize it was needed for each bug listed.

However, considering the difficulty some had - even the way I worded it - discerning that this bug is different from the situation described in the Note about trying to cure the Queen before receiving the quest, (see discussion above, and on my talk page too if you'd like to see how tempers flared over this) I doubt that it's wise to remove all mention that the player has already received the quest. Downstrike (talk) 23:40, 21 March 2013 (GMT)

Yeah, I saw the conversation. I agree with you that the conditions you described are different than what was listed in the notes. Because this bug is listed on the quest page, I think it is obvious that the quest has already been started, therefore the bit about Darius is not needed in the bug entry. If someone were to add it back, though, I wouldn't feel compelled to undo it. --Xyzzy Talk 03:45, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
I thought it was only painfully obvious too, the way I wrote it. What do you think of my new wording? I'm now trying to make it excrutiatingly obvious, as well as concise. Downstrike (talk) 07:55, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
I think your wording is fine. The single-sentence format seems a bit run-on-ish, but not excessively so. I assume you added the linked note as a response to your initial bug report being reverted, but it seems unnecessary and a bit confusing. I would remove it and just let the bug speak for itself. --Xyzzy Talk 17:09, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
I think I see what you mean; the Notes section is immediately above the Bugs section, although that wasn't apparent to me on the Bugs section editing page, so the link does seem silly in that context, and it's now gone.
As for run-on sentences, I do have a possibly unfortunate tendency to take after Samuel Clemens/Mark Twain, (in Connecticut Yankee, he wrote one sentence that was about 3 1/2 pages long in the paperback format; probably just to prove he could, just like I'm dragging out this sentence just to prove I can). Downstrike (talk) 23:47, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
I went ahead and removed all mention of the above note. The bug and the note are clearly addressing two different situations, making any mention of the note unnecessary. --Xyzzy Talk 02:59, 23 March 2013 (GMT)

Further Playtesting[edit]

This time, I'm playing as a female Hlaalu Bosmer, whereas I've usually experienced this bug while playing as a male Telvanni Imperial, (I have no idea whether this is significant, but also recall not having this bug occur when I played as a male Telvanni Khajiit). I tried both going to Vabdas first, and going straight to the mine; in that order, and the Journal updated just fine, both times. It occurs to me now that I should have tried those options in the opposite order, in case talking to Vabdas sets some variable that's independent of the Save file, (I've seen strong evidence that the programmers have stored variables outside the Save file in other instances).

That reminds me; some variables seem to get wiped when the Morrowind application is closed and the computer's caches are cleared, so I tried doing that and once again went through the process of receiving the quest and going directly to the mine to cast Vivec's Touch on the Queen; it still updates the Journal. Therefore, if this bug does indeed involve setting, (or failing to set), a variable, it isn't a variable that's forgotten when the game is closed.

I can't seem to get the bug to occur this time, so I don't see any further playtesting to do now. Downstrike (talk) 10:42, 5 April 2013 (GMT)

I've now encountered this issue with an unaligned female Khajiit, and discovered that I can also enable the Blight cure by making a donation to the Widows' Fund with Darius. 74.38.2.177 10:08, 16 September 2014 (GMT) (aka Downstrike; currently unable to login)

Getting to the mask[edit]

When I donate twice at the temple shrine, I get the Journal message both times, and the shrine pillar lights up both times. It appears to treat it as two single activations, and the hidden panel doesn't appear. I've searched YouTube, and everyone just activates the shrine once. Anyone have any hints for how to properly activate the shrine twice and reveal the mask? — Unsigned comment by 68.13.85.141 (talk) on 4:04, 1 June 2017
EDIT: I checked, and I also have the bug where the Queen doesn't have blight. — Unsigned comment by 68.13.85.141 (talk) on 4:26, 1 June 2017
FURTHER EDIT: Rebooting my computer fixed the mask. So it is something that isn't saved. — Unsigned comment by 68.13.85.141 (talk) on 4:30, 1 June 2017
