Obtaining the Book[edit]

I did not get the book from Caius during the Antabolis quest, and while I do have the topic it doesnt appear for any savant ive tried talking to. Unless i have trigged some weird bug, are there more comprehensive requirements to acquiring the book that should be specified? I have the topic of Morrowind history — Unsigned comment by 71.236.157.205 (talk) at 04:01 on 22 April 2023 (UTC)

In the vanilla game, Caius will give you a copy of the book if you ask him about "Morrowind history", provided you have not already received a copy. If you ask him about the topic and he responds with "As I said, Jeanette Sitte's little book is a good place to start. And I also recommend 'On Morrowind, the Imperial Province', by Erramanwe of Sunhold." then you have already received it.
In addition, any savant who has the "Morrowind history" topic will give you a copy of the book, again provided you have not already received a copy. (If they respond with "I hope you found 'Short History of Morrowind' useful." then you've already received the book.) Not all savants will have the "Morrowind history" topic; in order to have the topic the savant must not have the "NoLore" flag, and quite a number of them do. There are 19 savants in the game (including expansions); of these, 10 have the "NoLore" flag and will thus not have the topic. Those who can have the topic are Andilo Thelas, Andre Maul, Bedraflod, Mivanu Andrelo, Nothasea Beni, Okan-Shei, Sarnir the Clerk, Tuvene Arethan, and Velms Sadryon. (Note that Nothasea Beni is normally hostile and cannot be talked to). You should be able to obtain a copy from any of these NPCs.
There are no other requirements for obtaining a copy. If you're getting the dialogue which indicates you've already received it, double-check your inventory to make sure you didn't miss it. It's also possible, if your inventory is quite heavy, that someone tried to give you a copy of the book and doing so would have over-encumbered you, in which case the book would have fallen on the floor. Also remember that mods (if you're running with them) can change the behaviour/conditions of the game and the information in the article may not apply in this case. — Wolfborn(Howl) 07:02, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
