Elante and Elante of Alinor[edit]

Where is the proof that these are the same person? They are likely the same person, but there is no proof of any kind. There are many cases of games having people with the same names and the same race, but most if not all known people making a reappearance have some sort of proof. Granted, few of them are as interested in the same things as these two, but everything I can find for proof is circumstantial. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:09, 25 December 2013 (GMT)

Yeah, no proof. Similar situation with Umbacano. —Legoless (talk) 21:16, 25 December 2013 (GMT)
Umbacano mentions a former workmate, Sorcalin, which gives a solid link. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:20, 25 December 2013 (GMT)
Still circumstantial. Both Elantes are Altmer scholars associated with the Daedra, which seems like enough to go on. —Legoless (talk) 21:46, 25 December 2013 (GMT)
Guess I should have talked about this before expanding this into an article. I think there's enough reason here to believe they were supposed to be the same, but I should point out that a previous discussion on the topic was short and inconclusive, and I don't think there are any noticeable correlations between the language usage in Elante's Notes from Morrowind and Elante of Alinor's Oblivion dialogue. I can't find her Morrowind dialogue; don't know if she has any.
Same race, same first name, same career, same specialty, and in basically the same situation in two consecutive games by the same developer for the same series. Was the addition "of Alinor" to the name in Oblivion meant to distinguish her as a different person, or was it meant to flesh out the character more? I'm pretty certain it was the latter. Here's why: the name of her quest in Oblivion is "The Wandering Scholar".
It's your basic protection-through-a-dungeon quest, and Elante of Alinor is the eponymous scholar, the focus of the quest. Since they specifically described her as a "wandering" scholar, it's easy to assume that she has traveled great distances in her time - like, say, from Vvardenfell to Cyrodiil. The quest title is an obvious joke on this; she doesn't even have dialogue about how far she has traveled. They grabbed a more-or-less random Morrowind NPC and decided to flesh out her background as a treat for Morrowind players, and to add some flavor to an otherwise-bland quest. The "of Alinor" addition to her name, besides being an easy way to add substance to a blank-slate character, further bolsters her "wandering" credentials.
The alternative is that they plucked "Elante of Alinor" out of the ether, being entirely unaware of the Morrowind Elante, and this is all an amazingly harmonious coincidence. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 06:17, 26 December 2013 (GMT)
