Westmark Moor (also called Markwasten Moor[1][2] and Marnstern Moor)[3] is a region that consists of the southeastern portion of the region of Rivenspire, within the province of High Rock.

Westmark Moor is the least poulated part of Rivenspire, as the cities are located in the neighboring areas of the Eyebright Feld in the west and Boralis in the north. The region contains primarily farmland, as well as an area where the desolate moors of the west meet the rolling hills of the north. The largest settlement is the town of Hoarfrost Downs, situated on the road between Shornhelm and Northpoint. It is a trading town that more or less, governs the land. There are several sights in the region, more so south towards the legendary mausoleum, the Crypt of Hearts, nestled on the southern edge of Westmark Moor, within the Wrothgarian Mountains. The burial grounds known as the Sanguine Barrows is located in the heart of the moors and it is where the nobility of Rivenspire are buried once they have died.[4]

History[edit]

In 2E 566, amidst King Ranser's War, the Battle of Markwasten Moor served as the final known conflict that ended Ranser's conflict over the Daggerfall Covenant. However, Ranser's remaining forces escaped to an unnamed tor that overlooked Hoarfrost Downs, where he was ultimately be defeated.[5] The site became known as Traitor's Tor and it became Ranser's place of haunting for several years until the mid-Second Era in 2E 582.[6]

During the Imperial Simulacrum in the late Third Era, the village of Markwasten Moor was active during this time, being located in the same general area. The only temple it had at the time was the Brotherhood of Temperance. It was ruled by Lord Tristyrick, and had a rivalry with Thorkan Park.[1] The village was neighbored by several settlements, including Portdun Creek to the southeast, and Shornhelm to the northwest.[7]
