Molmor
Type Beast
Range Eltheric Ocean (extinct, seemingly unique)

The Molmor was the most powerful of the numerous colossal sea creatures unleashed by the Sloads upon the Systres Archipelago during the Thrassian War, a fierce conflict between the Sloads of Thras and the All Flags Navy. Tales describe the Molmor in various ways, recounting that it resembled a massive whale, an octopus with grasping tentacles, or even "veritable forests of sharp spines, each longer than the lance of a knight".[1]

History[edit]

Molmor wreaked havoc on Galen's coasts for seven years. Countless attempts by the All Flags Navy to defeat it ended in failure. Eventually, Baron-Admiral Bendu Olo acknowledged the necessity of external aid and reached out for assistance, enticing individuals with a reward for subduing the creature. At some point between 1E 2250 and 1E 2260,[nb 1] Belaigh, a young druid of the Eldertide Circle, accepted the challenge. She gathered elements from Galen's land and sea, confronting the Molmor in the western bay. With a powerful invocation, she cast a mixture into its maw, summoning vines from within. The Molmor thrashed and fell back into the sea, transforming into a rocky structure adorned with seaweed and a small forest. Its remains became Molmor Islet, a small island off Galen's western shore. Belaigh's triumph compelled Bendu Olo to honor her request to safeguard the trees and stones of Galen, thus preserving the island from further exploitation.[1]

Notes[edit]

  • 1.  In 1E 2241, Bendu Olo, proclaimed his intent to attack the Sload of Thras. Within two years the All Flags Navy arrived at the Systres.[2] The All Flags Navy had been present on Galen for at least seven years before Belaigh defeated the sea monster, placing the earliest possible date of Molmor's death in 1E 2250. It was defeated before the Sloads were vanquished in 1E 2260.[1][3]
