Calixto Corrium was a retired Imperial adventurer that was active in the Fourth Era. For most of his life, he was an adventurer that was accompanied by his sister, but later on, he became an infamous serial killer that stalked the streets of Windhelm, working under the alias of the Butcher.

History[edit]

Sometime in the second century of the Fourth Era, the siblings, Calixto Corrium and Lucilla Corrium had inherited a large sum of money. And so the two decided to explore the world together and in their travels, they acquired a myriad of rare items and curios. These include the Book of Fate, the Dancer's Flute, and Ysgramor's Soup Spoon. However, through unknown circumstances, Lucilla had died and Calixto grieved heavily for her death.[1] Determined, Calixto sought to bring her back to the world of the living, and by any means necessary. His journey eventually brought him to the world of forbidden magic. At some point, he made his way into Skyrim and the northern city of Winterhold, where he spent time with the mages in the College of Winterhold. He felt contempt towards them, as they only studied the magic they already knew and not the magic that was left undiscovered. In time, he discovered Flesh Magic.[2]

His quest took him southeast into Windhelm, which he felt provided the needed tools to conduct his research and experiments, such as the flesh and blood of the city-folk.[2] At this point, Calixto believed that what he was doing was justified and that his victims would understand the "higher purpose" that they were given. As a ploy to blend into the public, Calixto opened his own store called Calixto's House of Curiousities, where he put on display the various trinkets he and his sister gathered throughout the years.[1] By 4E 201, Calixto had become favorable among the people of Windhelm and so he decided to finally begin his plans. Calixto began to prey on the young female denizens of Windhelm in order to harvest the “assets” he required for his planned necromantic ritual. His first known victims were Fjotli of the locally prominent Clan Cruel-Sea,[3] and another young woman by the name of Isabella.[4] His third target was Friga of Clan Shatter-Shield. According to the local priestess of Arkay, the killer had used embalming tools used by the Ancient Nords to excavate his needed assets.[5] At some point, Calixto used the backroom of Hjerim to conduct his experiments on an altar of blood, with help from the Necromancer's Amulet. When the old estate became abandoned, he started storing his journals and the various pamphlets on the killer's whereabouts here. Not long after the death of the barmaid, Susanna the Wicked, a certain traveler became involved in the matter and was employed by the steward to learn more about the case. In time, they uncovered the laboratory in Hjerim and eventually enlisted help from the Court Wizard, Wuunferth the Unliving. Calixto was discovered and killed by the interloper.[6]
