Historical or Not?[edit]

I'd prefer everyone not touch this document, as it was, for the most part, written before the release of the two major Elder Scrolls games. It's a peice of UESP history. — Unsigned comment by 66.141.74.234 (talk) on 30 November 2008

I was thinking some of these were backed-up/edit-protected. Maybe we should do one of them just in case.--Timmeh Talk 09:23, 3 December 2008 (EST)
Actually, this is one of many copies of the FAQ. I agree that the Old Unofficial FAQ and the Official WWW FAQ shouldn't be edited (other than formatting) because those are here purely for their historical value. However, I don't see why this updated version of the FAQ should also be considered frozen in history. If there are still (presumably) people who are playing the game, then there should be a version of the FAQ that is kept up-to-date for people who are actively playing the game; to me, this would seem to be the appropriate place for such updates. Otherwise, we would need to have three copies of the same "unofficial FAQ" maintained on the site, which seems a bit ridiculous, if you ask me. Not to mention that for good measure, the old Daggerfall site is still in place, intact, on our server.
Furthermore, we don't generally place edit protection on pages purely because they are archives (see, for example, the countless archived discussions on the site). There are still numerous reasons why such a page may need to be edited, in particular for formatting or links. There's no reason why an admin should have to make such edits. Furthermore, the wiki's history system keeps a completely accurate history of all past versions of the article and makes it trivial to see what changes have been made, by whom, when, and why. If there were a problem with an edit, an older version can easily be reinstated. In short, these FAQ pages don't meet the criteria of our Protection Policy.
I'm in the process of adding introductions to all of these FAQs at the moment. As part of that, I'm adding blurbs about editing to the ones that I consider to truly be historical, but I'm not adding such a blurb to this version. Unless someone can explain why yet another historical copy of this page is needed. --NepheleTalk 12:38, 27 February 2009 (EST)

Error in attribution[edit]

This is not an updated version of the "Unofficial FAQ" linked from this page; the two of them aren't even remotely similar, so I don't know how that mistake was made. This was the alt.games.daggerfall FAQ, and I wrote the original version, taking information from threads on alt.games.daggerfall. It was edited and ultimately hosted by George4. It was never designed to be a comprehensive guide to the game, but rather to address genuinely frequently asked questions in that particular venue, and nothing more.

The original version contained a "thanks to these members" section. Does anyone know where I might find the original version? I'm on a bit of a nostalgia spree right now. ^.^' (Ah, found it: http://web.archive.org/web/19991021212112/http://members.aol.com/georgethe4/faq.htm)

Editing the FAQ[edit]

To whomever changed this back: on my game version (latest patch), when I exit the Privateer's Hold, the tutorial tells me go to Daggerfall (city), then resumes when I get there with something about shopping at a general store. Thus, it does resume. — Unsigned comment by 107.4.169.82 (talk) at 20:05 on 10 April 2013‎

If this page should be considered an archive, a notice should be added to the page. However, should we do this despite possibly incorrect information? Or do we have another FAQ page for that? Vely►t►e 20:11, 10 April 2013 (GMT)

Bad Link Issue[edit]

I've tried to fix the link to my Beginner's Guide, but am getting all kinds of grief over it being an external site, to the point where the wiki threatened to ban my IP address for spamming. The izhtex.com domain is gone. I replaced it with tesguides.com a few years back and izhtex.com was just a mirror until the domain name expired, which it did in February. If anyone knows how to work around that little problem without getting yourself flagged as a spammer, I'd appreciate the link being updated. Just needs the domain name changed - directory structure is unchanged. Marstinson (talk) 16:36, 22 June 2013 (GMT)

Done. For future reference, edits adding external links will be marked "possible spam" or something, but we usually check the link if it's not obviously spammy, so don't worry about it. Vely►t►e 18:23, 22 June 2013 (GMT)
