Harald Burdsson

Harald Burdsson is a Nord citizen who runs a museum dedicated to the Champion of Cyrodiil, and will offer you a tour in return for an ever-increasing amount of gold. He claims descent from Burd, a Bruma guard captain from the 3rd Era.

After waking up at 6am, Harald will eat breakfast and spend a couple of hours indoors. At 12pm he heads out to the market, where he will spend the next two hours pestering Bruma's citizens to come visit his museum. At 2pm, he heads back home and opens up the museum, offering tours until 8pm, when visits The Restful Watchman for some food and drink, returning home at midnight and heading straight to bed. The only change to this schedule is on Sundas, when he shutters the museum early at 6pm and heads to the Cathedral of St. Martin for two hours of prayer.

Harald's love for the Champion shines through when first speaking to him: "Excuse me, but have you ever heard of the Champion of Cyrodiil?" If you say you do, he will be delighted: "Yes, indeed! And my great, great, great, great-- well, anyway, my very, very distant grandfather- he fought alongside the Champion! He was at the Battle of Bruma! He was the captain of the guard, no less!" If you tell him you're not interested, he insists: "Sorry to bother you, but the Champion - never underestimate the Champion! Always remember that you owe your very life to the Champion."

If you instead say you've never heard of him, he'll be aghast: "The Champion of Cyrodiil is the reason Tamriel is still intact! And yet you've never heard...? The Champion fought alongside Martin during the Oblivion Crisis back in the Third Era. They closed the Oblivion gates and fought alongside the Blades during the Battle of Bruma, where they managed to shut down the Great Gate. The Champion also killed Mankar Camoran and with Martin's help saved the Imperial City from Daedric invasion."

He will continue: "The Champion is my inspiration, second only to Captain Burd, you know, the distant relative. I have a very large collection of Champion of Cyrodiil artifacts. My pride and joy. And I always want to expand it. Perhaps one day you'll aid me in that pursuit, eh? But that day isn't today. I need to track down another artifact first. Anyway, thank you for your time! Sorry for approaching you so abruptly. Sometimes my passion for the Champion can carry me away. Heh, sorry again. Oh, I almost forgot! If you're interested, come to my house. I have a fantastic Champion of Cyrodiil museum tour available. Innumerable Champion of Cyrodiil artifacts! Come, check it out when you can!"

Asking about his surname will net you: "Well, my great, great, great, great--my ancestor, Burd, fought alongside the Champion of Cyrodiil during the Battle of Bruma. The first Burdsson was born after Burd's death. Given his fame and status as Captain of the Guard, he felt he was worthy of making a name! It's been that way for generations." If you ask why he's opened the museum, he will be confused: "Well, the Champion of Cyrodiil saved the entire world! Why not revere them?"

Harald wears Cyrodiilic merchant clothes and matching boots, and is armed with a wooden club. He also carries a copy of his museum pamphlet, the key to his house, a draught of haggling and a random selection of gold, lockpicks, gems, jewelry, food and drink.

Conversations[edit]

When in the market square, Harald can be overheard badgering Ananril and Gort to come visit the museum:

Ananril: "What can I get you? I have the finest potions-"
Harald: "Ah, that is not why I am here, though thank you for the offer."
Ananril: "Don't tell me you're here to-"
Harald: "I am here to discuss with you the Champion of Cyrodiil, for it is the Champion who saved Cyrodiil and all Tamriel from the Oblivion Crisis!"
Ananril: "I realize you don't mean any harm, but you're interrupting my business and scaring away my customers. Please, buy something or leave."
Harald: "My apologies, friend! I will return another time!"
Harald: "May I discuss with you the glorious Champion of Cyrodiil?"
Gort: "What?"
Harald: "The Champion of Cyrodiil! The savior of all Tamriel!"
Gort: "Get away from me, you crazy snowback bastard."
Harald: "The Champion is the savior of Tamriel! You may turn your back on me but you cannot turn your back on the Champion! Don't blind yourself to the truth!"
Bruma Guard: "Burdsson, calm yourself. You're causing a fuss."
Harald: "I, but... the Champion..."
Bruma Guard: "Yes, yes, we know. "The Champion of Cyrodiil, the savior of all Tamriel". Harald, you do this damn near every day. Everyone in Bruma who isn't deaf knows. Now, head back to your house and calm down."
Harald: "I... I understand."
