Captain Cocius on the deck of The Shadow in Leyawiin Harbour

Captain Cocius is an Imperial who serves as captain aboard The Shadow, a ship currently docked in Leyawiin Harbour.

Cocius rises at 6am every morning and spends an hour walking around the deck, taking in the morning air and watching the sun rise, before he goes to The Mermaid Inn for a two-hour breakfast. He then returns to the ship to oversee operations on deck all day. On Morndas, Middas, and Fredas, he retires to his cabin early to catch up on paperwork and read a book for a few hours before he goes to bed at 10pm; every other day, he remains on deck until bedtime.

Cocius wears a red velvet garment and fur boots, and is armed with a silver dagger; he has a copy of Guide to Leyawiin, the key to his cabin, and a loaf of bread.

The captain's cabin is accessed by a door in the crew deck. It takes up the width of the stern and is dominated by a large curved desk; two bookcases and a cupboard stand against the walls, and a bed sits in one corner.

Cocius is nice enough, but doesn't like non-sailors messing around on his ship: "You be on my ship now kid, so you abide by my rules! I don't want yeh touchin' anythin', or go breakin' anythin'! Stay out o' me men's way, and yeh'll be fine in my books." If you ask where the ship goes, he says: "Anywhere tha' is willin' to pay the right amount o' gold! We sail as far east as Branchmont in Black Marsh, all the way teh Woodhearth in Valenwood! We ferry the poor all across the southern coast o' Tamriel! Some folk can't afford the high life of ordinary shipping lines, so we take them instead in bulk at a highly reduced rate!"
