Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

While you technically get this quest from Falwin in the Leyawiin Rangers Guild Hall, he'll tell you to see Guildmaster Silverneck. The guildmaster is interested in opening a new hall in Anvil, but she needs permission from Countess Umbranox to do so. You are to be the guild's envoy. Go to Anvil and talk to her, and she'll make a deal with you: If you clear out the pirates from three ships in the bay, she'll grant permission for the guild to open a new hall.

Two of the ships are anchored off-shore and will have to be sunk. There's no rowboat leading out to them, however, so you'll either have to swim, walk on water, or take a pilotable ship or rowboat and hop over. Each one has a ladder down the side that you can climb to get onto the deck. From there, just kill everyone until you've cleared the ship, at which time you'll get a journal entry. The Sea Horse has a ballista in the hold; activate it to punch a hole in the hull and sink it. The Shady Serpent has a pile of hay in the hold, which you must activate to set afire; the rest of the ship will then burn and sink. (Be careful when fleeing the ship! The flames will cause damage if you walk through them!)

The third ship, The Sea Queen, is docked right next to the Black Flag Tavern. You can attempt to parley with the captain, Captain Hawkins, but he'll just tell you to take a hike and you'll be forced to kill him and his crew too. This ship doesn't get burned or sunken, as it's right next to the docks, but you'll still get a journal entry.

Once you've taken care of all three ships, head back to the castle. Along the way, however, you'll be accosted by the local guards - you're being arrested for murdering a bunch of pirates. Despite your protests, you'll be tossed in the local jail. You can't do anything here, so just use the pallet to sleep. You'll wake up somewhere else - the Imperial City Prison District, to be exact. You were brought there by an Unknown Man, a member of the Daggers, a subsection of the Blades. They're investigating the Rangers Guild - though he won't say why - and he is recruiting you to the cause. Since you have little choice (it's either that or be hanged), you agree and are released, whereupon you can return to Anvil and report to the Countess (who isn't in on this little plot).

In gratitude for your actions, the Countess grants permission for the guild to occupy a building in Anvil near the west gate and turn it into their newest guild hall. Return to Guildmaster Silverneck to complete the quest.

Journal Entries[edit]

A Growing Guild Expands (BANRG04House)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
10 Falwin has asked me to speak with guildmaster Silverneck for my next task. He made it clear that it is unusual for someone of my rank to be receiving tasks from the guildmaster herself. Silverneck is here in the Leyawiin Rangers Guildhouse.
20 After speaking with Guildmaster Silverneck, I must meet with Countess Millona Umbranox in Anvil Castle, and request a new guild house for the Rangers Guild.
30 Countess Millona Umbranox has agreed to provide the guild with a guildhouse in Anvil, on condition that the three pirate ships in Anvil Bay be taken care of. I am to sink the two which are just off the coast, and dispose of the pirates from the ship at the docks. First I could try simply talking to the captain of the docked ship, to see if they can be persuaded to leave.
40 I tried speaking with Captain Hawkins, but the result was inevitable, and now the pirates will have to be killed.
50 Every pirate from the docked ship The Sea Queen is now dead, and the ship is safe for the countess' men to dispose of as they see fit. That's one less pirate ship in Anvil Bay.
60 The Sea Horse is now heading to the bottom of the sea. That's one less pirate ship in Anvil Bay.
70 The Shady Serpent is now heading to the bottom of the sea. That's one less pirate ship in Anvil Bay.
80 The pirates will no longer bother Anvil, hopefully the two wrecks will break up in the sea and be washed away rather than sink to the sea-bed. I should return to Countess Millona Umbranox now.
90 As I was returning to Countess Umbranox in Castle Anvil to report my success, I was arrested by a guard, who accused me of murder for the deaths of the pirates! He ignored me when I said the countess asked me to dispose of the pirates. Now I am in Anvil's dungeons. Unless someone informs the countess so that she may release me and correct this mistake, I shall just have to serve my time.
100 Where am I?! After resting in my jail cell in Anvil, I have awoken in a completely different cell, and I feel slightly dizzy and nauseous. Is this still Anvil's dungeon?
110 A man claiming to be one of the Blades was the cause of my imprisonment in Anvil. It would seem that I was drugged while in the Anvil dungeon and brought to the Imperial City. This man says he is a special Blades member, working for a division named the Daggers, and that the Daggers are suspicious of the Rangers Guild. I had no choice but to agree to work for the Daggers to avoid being hanged, but for now I have not been given any specific instructions. I should now return to Anvil to inform Countess Umbranox of my success with dealing with the pirates.
120 Countess Umbranox has rewarded my efforts by promising a building in Anvil to the Rangers Guild. I should deliver the key and deed to Guildmaster Silverneck in Leyawiin.
130 Finishes quest☑ Guildmaster Silverneck was very pleased to hear that the Rangers Guild can now open a branch in Anvil. High Ranger Culumani shall be heading the new branch, and the new recruits he picked shall be assisting him to get the branch up and running.
Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On PC It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage BANRG04House stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
