Daedric Shrines?[edit]

I'm assuming this page will just be for shrines to the Divines, and not include Deadric Shrines, as I assume there is at most only one Daedric shrine for each prince and each will likely have its own page for an associated quest ala Oblivion. I could be wrong, though, and if practical we could easily include Daedric shrine locations on this page, too. Hypothetically, they could each be listed here and have their own separate pages. I'm just spit-balling, as I'm not sure what the best arrangement is. Thoughts? Minor Edits 18:13, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Talos Blessing[edit]

The Blessing from Talos shows as a 0% speedup in shout time, but it also says '7 hours' at the bottom of the effects box, which I have ho idea what that means. It doesn't seem to be a recharge time or anything. Any ideas? Lgpmichael 18:42, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm a console player; maybe the PC players can say for sure. But my first guess is that it's a textual error, and the blessing actually does have some effect. My next guess is that the mistake is with the effect itself, rendering it inoperable. The third guess is that it's an intentionally-included symptom of the ban on the worship of Talos (which might make sense if deities actually drew tangible power from their veneration by mortals, though that premise is by no means certain). Minor Edits 01:17, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
The blessing lasts 8 hours. That is the remaining time displayed in the corner. The blessing does work. It is merely a text error. The actual value for the enchantment is 0.2, which is 20% as a decimal. Unfortunately, someone at Bethesda didn't convert from decimal to percent for the text display. This makes the 0.2 truncate to 0 in the description, instead of the proper 20. 96.28.195.153 05:57, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Duration?[edit]

How long do blessings last? Also, I don't see it on the effects screen? Am i too noob? — Unsigned comment by 67.175.216.139 (talk) at 03:04 on 24 November 2011 (GMT)

7 hours its on the bottom right corner of the infobox in the effects screen (Eddie The Head 12:04, 25 November 2011 (UTC))
To be more clear it's 8 hours real-time, it just doesn't show the minutes so by the time you look at it it's at least at 7:59:59 and shows up as "7". --D. Gemini 23:07, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Shrine in Falkreath Hold[edit]

There's a Shrine of Talos in Falkreath Hold, in the vicinity of Pinewatch. It has apparently been attacked by a lone Thalmor Justicar, whose corpse you'll find there along with those he killed. It's the earliest chance to grab Thalmor robes I know of, and the Justicar also carries some leveled loot that may include enchanted items and a note where it appears he wasn't believed when he reported the shrine's presence. 89.189.38.226 12:01, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Can someone say where? In the vicinity doesn't help much north east west where? — Unsigned comment by 173.239.88.11 (talk) at 19:19 on 01 February 2012
It says on this wiki page that it's northeast. Alphabetface 01:28, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

A Report to the Department of Redundancy Department.[edit]

It might be a good idea to combine the blessings chart with this page and possibly add mention of the shrine of Nocturnal in the theives' guild hideout, as this has effects more like the Aedric shrines than the other Daedric. This would only leave the Gift of Charity to deal with. Any ideas? Thelastoneusaw 16:26, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Seems like it would be a lot easier to simply link to that blessings page here. Then there's no worry about mixing up spirits inappropriately and the Gift of Charity can be added to the blessings chart. Minor Edits 18:50, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Shrine of Nocturnal in Thieves Guild[edit]

Was it always there?! I mean, I've done all the thieves guild main quests, I'm in the process of doing side missions to restore it to it's former glory and I have never noticed the shrine there until now. Am I really that blind or does it appear once you get the guild a certain distance toward it's "former glory"?--Lyco499 21:27, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

No, it wasn't always there. Nocturnals shrine doesn't appear until you've completed Darkness Returns. Evlydia 05:56, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Blessings[edit]

Do we want to say what each shrine does on this page or not? They were on the page, then removed, and now re-added, so ... should I be fixing typos or reverting? Minor Edits 01:25, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

It's convenient to have the blessing effect both here and on the Blessings page. This page lists locations, so if I were looking for what shrines were in a particular area I'd type "Shrines" in the search box, and it's handy to know the effect without flipping back and forth between Blessings and Shrines. It doesn't take up much extra space, whereas a full merge as discussed above would make the page very cluttered. 76.187.201.66 18:43, 22 December 2011 (UTC)evilneko
You must return the skeleton key, in order to complete the nightingales story. Then norcturnal will give you 3 choice of buff. one that will turn you invisible, one that will cause all enemy to attack each other, and the third Lets you draw health from an enemy. — Unsigned comment by 173.178.244.131 (talk) at 12:15 on 19 January 2012

Talos shrine "In Winterhold"[edit]

Would anyone care to elaborate exactly where this is in Winterhold? The link points to the city page but as yet I've been unable to find one in the Winterhold city location. — Unsigned comment by Evlydia (talkcontribs) at 05:56 on 11 February 2012

I've never seen it either. Evilneko 00:14, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
Based on the map of all the shrines I would guess that this refers to the one north of Ysgramor's tomb since that one is not referenced in any other entry and is in the hold of Winterhold. Coronus 00:29, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
I checked Winterhold and did not find any shrines there. The map of the shrine locations does not include one there either. I changed the entry to refer the the one by Ysgramor's Tomb. If there is one in the city than whoever finds it can add it again (preferably with a more specific description of where it is). Coronus 00:52, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Temple of Talos in Windhelm[edit]

I haven't been, personally, but the Temple of Talos article here on uesp has an image of the temple's interior with a shrine to Talos in the center. That shrine isn't listed in the Talos Shrine section of this article. I don't know how this page is meant to be dealt with as I've only ever been a reader, but I wanted to announce this to whoever cared. — Unsigned comment by 70.36.134.132 (talk) at 03:23 on 27 February 2012

Added. Thanks for letting us know! Robin Hoodtalk 07:31, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Missed Talos Shrine[edit]

i gotta go but the shrine south of Riverwood and the Guardian Stones does not appear to be on the list. --D. Gemini 23:05, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

That one is there--it's marked as "northeast of Pinewatch". --Velyanthe 23:50, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Shrine of Talos in Fellglow Keep[edit]

When I went through Fellglow Keep, the so-called Shrine of Talos appeared to be just a ruined statue of Talos, but no actual shrine that could be activated to obtain a blessing. Can somebody confirm or deny this? --Xyzzy 05:43, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

CK/in-game: It's there and it can be activated, between the rubble and the broken altar - RuinsAltarBroken (0x0003f812) - in front of the ruined statue. --Holomay 22:01, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Dragonborn Shrines?[edit]

I just found a Shrine of Kynareth due north of the Earth Stone, south-southwest of Bloodskal Barrow, in the rocks near the coast. Should that be added here, or should DB get its own shrine page? Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 04:55, 13 December 2012 (GMT)

Talos shrine "south of Dawnstar"[edit]

The Talos shrine described as being located "in the wilderness near a fort, south of Dawnstar" does not seem to exist, nor does it appear on the shrine map. There is a shrine at the Weynon stones, which are near Ft Dunstad, which is south of Dawnstar. However, this shrine is already mentioned.--149.160.118.50 22:24, 18 June 2013 (GMT)

Looks like you are correct. I will remove the repeated one. --Xyzzy Talk 02:32, 19 June 2013 (GMT)

Shrine of Nocturnal[edit]

Where should we document the Shrine to Nocturnal that appears in The Ragged Flagon - Cistern during the Thieves Guild quest line? I was going to add it to the Skyrim:Shrines article, but noticed that this article is for shrines to the Divines. Nocturnal is a Daedric prince, but her shrine behaves like a Divines shrine, curing diseases and conferring a blessing for 8 hours. --Xyzzy Talk 23:56, 23 July 2013 (GMT)

And what about the blessings of auriel and the three daedric blessings from DB? I assume those have shrines as well. --AN|L (talk) 21:38, 23 July 2013 (EDT)
I added Auriel's shrines to the Shrines article, but the DB ones will take a bit more thought, since they are shrines to Daedric princes, and the Shrines article is listed as being solely for the Divines' shrines. A very similar question to the original one about Nocturnal. --Xyzzy Talk 04:59, 24 July 2013 (GMT)

Whiterun Shrine to Zenithar[edit]

In the Whiterun hold, there are 2 Zenithar shrines listed as "separate" shrines, but they both refer to the same shrine in the same place:

  • Within ruins in the wilderness between Fort Greymoor and Rorikstead, immediately east of Gjukar's Monument.
  • West of Swindler's Den set against a large rock. There are other rocks of varying size around the area in a loose circle.

Maybe "Due west of Swindler's Den, east of Gjukar's Monument, in a circle of stones"? Bewing (talk) 17:15, 22 October 2013 (GMT)

Nope. There are actually 2 shrines of Zenithar in this area. The northern one is due east of Swindler's den, and the second one is east-southeast of the first. --Xyzzy Talk 00:23, 23 October 2013 (GMT)

Akatosh Shrine on Map[edit]

I might be mistaken here, but the map shows an Akatosh shrine just to the east of Labyrinthian, but according to the list that isn't a location for one. Is one of these an error? — Unsigned comment by 2.123.82.53 (talk) at 14:13 on 18 January 2015 (GMT)

The one you mean is at skyborn altar, and only appears if dragon rising has not yet been completed as far as I know. I'm adding it to the page. -- SarthesArai Talk 17:39, 18 January 2015 (GMT)

Shrine of Julianus | Winterhold[edit]

There is a Shrine of Julianos in Winterhold in one of the destroyed houses near the bridge to the College, it is near two barrels and should be easy to find at night because of a nearby candle. — Unsigned comment by 87.188.202.234 (talk) at 20:03 on 4 March 2015 (GMT)

Just checked, and there are neither barrels, nor candles, nor a Shrine of Julianos there. At least not with Hearthfire and Dawnguard installed.(217.191.236.119 18:30, 5 May 2015 (GMT))
I guess this means it is a fair chance this shrine was added by a mod the unsigned had installed. —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:39, 5 May 2015 (GMT)

Usefulness of the current layout of the page[edit]

From the perspectives of designing data-tables, it is always understood that the left-most field should serve as an index to whatever data you want to seek. It means a table is always read from left to right, where the item you want to find is written on the first column, and the rest of the columns show you the information about the item on the first column. The current layout means that the original authors of the table might have assumed users to want to look up all the shrines of a specific Aedra without caring how far away it is, or how remotely unrelated of one shrine to another.

I oppose this idea. This is not a typical use-case. There will be various reasons to visit this page and I think the current structure only discourages most of the use-cases while only encouraging the rarest one (who would just look up all the shrines of a specific god in the first place?). For instance, if anyone wants to look for a cure for diseases and doesn't know the geography well, would come over here to check if there's any shrine around, and would not help but feel frustrated while reading the table.

I don't believe there is any neutral ground here. A table will always needs an index and which field of data we use as the index will always reflect our rationale. Please consider revising the table completely. I would have simply edited it but it seems like a big edit that's why I ask first to be nice.

-Joshua.yathin.yu (talk) 06:35, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

It seems fine to me. This is a simple place list for fairly irrelevant objects. Grouping by shrine/blessing reduces duplicity and is arguably a far more meaningful categorisation than by geographic area; people are more likely to be looking for a particular blessing, considering the various simple methods of curing disease. We could group them by hold or something, but that still wouldn't be particularly meaningful for a reader looking for nearby shrines ("all shrines in the Reach" is about as useful as "all Shrines of Dibella" as far as I can tell). We have place links and interactive map links on this page to aid navigation, and it does the job. The table even has a column dedicated to map links showing the obscure wilderness shrines. If you really want to help new players find a means of curing disease, perhaps a link to Skyrim:Temples would be appropriate on the page? —Legoless (talk) 23:16, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
Thing is, this is not how a table works. Look at the header rows. Does it look like there's an arrow for you to sort records? Yes, and they are put here for you to sort records. Does it look like the current layout can be sorted? No. Try clicking any arrow back there, it is not even meaningful.
Here's a sample of what I have in mind:
Divine Closest Map Marker Precise Location
Akatosh Rorikstead Atop the hill directly north of Frostfruit Inn
Arkay Wayward Pass Adorning the resting place of an ancient traveler
Talos Windhelm In the Temple of Talos
Of course, with the corresponding links added on these items. After this smaller table, we put another table there summerising:
Shrine Blessing Locations
SR-icon-construction-Shrine of Akatosh.png Shrine of Akatosh Blessing of Akatosh: Magicka regenerates 10% faster 2 in Whiterun, 1 in Hjaalmarch, 1 in Falkreath and 1 in Eastmarch
SR-icon-construction-Shrine of Arkay.png Shrine of Arkay Blessing of Arkay: Increases your health by 25 points. Wayward Pass, Eastmarch, Falkreath and 5 in various Halls of the Dead
SR-icon-construction-Shrine of Talos.png Talos Blessing of Talos: Time between shouts is reduced 20%. Just an example, I am not including the actual thing here since it's long
Best thing about splitting into these 2 tables is that it is way easier to find what you are looking for, regardless which direction you were looking.
-Joshua.yathin.yu (talk) 01:04, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
I'm not particularly opposed to that layout, although if we do go that route I'd suggest putting the blessings table before the list of locations. Does anyone else have any feedback? —Legoless (talk) 16:17, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
This seems to be making a mountain out of a molehill. In my most recent playthrough I had a similar desire to know where the nearest blacksmithing machinery was located in relation to me after various quests. After some frustration I finally started to memorise the various places where I could make stuff and level the skill. However, I also realised that making lists start with a hold, location, and then between the various pieces would be completely useless, considering that at any one time I could be closer to one in a different hold, and the closest place might have be the piece I wanted. Further to this, the location would only be relevant if I knew the location of the map-marker listed, even if I had not unlocked it for fast-travel.
My experience seems relevant here, if you swap the machinery for blessings. The only constant between the shrines is the ability to cure diseases, but so long as you remember where one shrine is in each of the cities, there is no need and no logical way to cater to that minority that would like to know where the nearest shrine is regardless of its blessing. In fact the easiest way to know the closest, given the dearth of shrines in relation to size of Skyrim, is to go to the map, center over your location, then search for "shrine". In my opinion, all this page needs is a bit of a cleanup with the locations. I don't know if another column is needed, but some sort of standardisation, perhaps with the ones using minor locations (caves, forts) including a major location (town, city, hold) to help locate them better. I don't feel like splitting the locations into a separate table serves any useful purpose at all. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:54, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
I concur with that my suggestion needs some temperaments. I merely did so in a point of view based on designing principles and did not go too deep into an actual design. If we have reached enough energy about making changes, what about we start making it happen and fine tune it? -Joshua.yathin.yu (talk) 05:34, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Shrine of Dibella South of Old Hroldan: Spamming gives experience in restoration?[edit]

I went to the shrine south of Old Hroldan, spammed activate on it, and got my restoration skill all the way from 25, up to 100. I'm not sure if it's just this shrine, or if it's any shrine, but feel free to try it out yourself.

Getting the skill up to 100 takes a LOT of pressing the activate key though. Be prepared for cramps... — Unsigned comment by 67.190.89.135 (talk) at 17:34 on 2 June 2019 (UTC)

What platform are you on? Do you have any mods or unofficial patches installed, and if so, could they interfere with this quest? —MortenOSlash (talk) 13:53, 17 June 2019 (UTC)

Thank u for this, this is great I’m actually going with shrine of Talos and this web helped me out a lot

Cradlecrush visibility[edit]

The entry for the Shrine of Talos at Cradlecrush Pond states "A statue of Talos right next to it is visible from Windhelm's entry bridge." This seems unlikely, given the distance and terrain. I was unable to see it just now, but the weather was not 100% clear. I suspect someone mistook the Shrine of Talos from the Watcher of Windhelm entry. Can anyone confirm?
