Quest-Related Events[edit]

During the quest, Laen the Doorwalker will ask you to find her fellow performers. You'll find Alanaire hiding in the werewolf valley:

"Stop! Get back! I tell you, I have friends, friends in high places!"
Laen sent me to find you. She's all right.
"She's all right? She's all right? What do I care? I've been chased by Houndsmen! I've had harsh critics before, but really.
Well, I wouldn't say "harsh." Or even unfavorable. No, the critics have always liked me. What were you saying?"
Laen sent me to find you. She wants to rendezvous at your camp.
"Oh, she does? Well, she can just go ….
No, wait. You aren't a Houndsman. Why would she send you to capture me? Isn't that what the Houndsmen are for?"
I'm a friend of the Silvenar, and I'm trying to help you.
"If you're a friend of the Silvenar, Laen didn't betray us! She's a jealous harpy, but she didn't throw us to the Houndsmen after all.
Well, now, that's a song of a different key."
Why did you think she betrayed you?
"Laen's jealous of my singing ability, which she lacks, and wanted to get rid of me.
Apparently, I'm mistaken."
You need to get to your old camp. Can you do that?
"Of course! I'm nearly there now.
But I need to ask a favor. Can you retrieve my instrument? It was a gift from the Silvenar and is precious to me. And if you get the rest of the instruments back, that'd be nice, too."
If everyone has been rescued
If not everyone has been rescued
Now that all the minstrels are accounted for, I'll go after your instruments.
"Very good. While you're slaughtering the Houndsmen, I can safely make my way to our camp.
Hope to see you there."
Let's see if I can find the other minstrels first.
"Look, I'll head to our camp when the Houndsmen aren't looking. How about you kill a few? That'll distract them."

Speaking to her again if you haven't found her instrument yet:

"Thank you for our lives, but what is life without fame? I mean, music! We need our instruments if we're going to be the stars of the ceremonies!
Well, along with the Silvenar and the Green Lady, of course."

After returning with the lost instruments, you'll find everyone at the camp. Speak to Alanaire before speaking to Laen and she'll tell you:

"My goodness, it's you! Bedraggled, but mostly intact, I see."

Once you ask Laen to have everyone start playing to attract Grimclaw, Alainaire will either complain:

Alanaire: "No one suffers as I've suffered!"
Alanaire: "You can't expect me to perform under these circumstances!"

After defeating Grimclaw, she'll say:

"Ni-po-tu-la-hee! Ni-po-tu-la-hee!
Excuse me, you're interrupting my practice."

After completing the quest, speak to her before you leave:

"Music brings people together on many different levels, doesn't it?"

Dialogue[edit]

She can be heard complaining after the quest, at the Chancel of Divine Entreaty:

Alanaire: "No one suffers as I've suffered!"
Alanaire: "You can't expect me to perform under these circumstances!"

At the Handfast celebration, she can be spoken to:

"Music brings people together on many different levels, doesn't it?"

Notes[edit]

  • At the end of The Misfortunate Minstrels, Laen mentions that they all do not know the same songs. Each of the four NPCs though play at the same time, all perform different songs creating a strange cacophony.
  • Alanaire is a harpist, and while a model of a harp sits beside her, she's unable to play it as there is not a harp playing animation in the game.
