Target's fatigue[edit]

I've read elsewhere that Sound has a somewhat unique and counterintuitive characteristic of being more effective if the target's Fatigue is 50% or above. Apparently Sound is therefore less effective for targets with 50% Fatigue or less.

I am just now hearing about this so it certainly needs verification. I am wondering if this negative feedback effect exists for other spell effects (if it is at all true). Unless there is a cap, one could potentially fortify the target's Fatigue beyond its normal max in conjunction with a Sound spell to enhance the efficacy of Sound's %M chance to cause the target to fail casting.

I expect whatever the result would be for testing this that it wouldn't qualify to be included on this page... likely just a mildly interesting gimmick (if any of this is true, of course).

If the negative feedback effect is real though, does that seem worth including? Chill fridge (talk) 08:39, 30 May 2023 (UTC)

You're probably referring to this page. It is technically true but it's not the whole truth. Based on the spellcasting formulas in the Spells page, the chance to successfully cast a spell is the product of these two:
  • (Spell's skill * 2 + Willpower / 5 + Luck / 10 - Spell cost - Sound magnitude)
  • (0.75 + 0.5 * Current Fatigue/Maximum Fatigue)
Thus, all addends in the 1st factor are affected by the 2nd factor (aka. the fatigue multiplier). In other words, if the target has 100% Fatigue, the resulting multiplier (1.25) will be applied, not just to the Sound magnitude, but also to the target's Spell's skill * 2, their Willpower / 5, their Luck / 10, etc. Had you fortified the target's fatigue, you would have ended up actually (and predictably) raising their chance to successfully cast their spells... or punch you... or stab you. The point is: Fortify Fatigue is a really great spell you never want on your enemies, even if they're afflicted by Sound. Salamangkero (talk) 15:46, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to explain that to me! Now I can rest easy, no longer doubting everything I held to be true. Chill fridge (talk) 02:23, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
