Karthmad is a mountain in the Reach that stands at the head of the valley of the Karth River. It is better known as the site of the city of Markarth, or Nchuand-Zel as it was called by its original builders, the Dwemer. The stronghold of Nchuand-Zel was carved by the Dwemer into the subterranean heart of Karthmad and then expanded upwards until its structures penetrated above the surface.[1]
