New Life Herald Breda was a Nord cleric and lumberjack renowned for organizing and coordinating the New Life Festival celebrations across all of Tamriel in 2E 582.[1][2][3]
History[edit]
During her youth, Breda was a travelling adventurer. Among her companions was Borbuga of the Seamount Clan.[1][4] Later in life she worked a lumberjack, managing the Knotty Pine Timber Mill.[5][1] She was also a cleric,[2] and was known for her annual pilgrimages to Eastmarch during the New Life Festival. These journeys were a joyful reunion with her festival friends.[5] She herself partook in some of the celebrations in the past—cliff jumping, anchor tossing, and even drunken echatere racing, although the latter had to be canceled in Orsinium.[1]
In 2E 582, during one of her pilgrimages, she was asked to help officiate the Festival,[5] becoming the New Life Herald and helping to arrange celebrations across Tamriel.[1][2] She was well-acquainted with many other festivity organizers,[1] including her former adventuring companion Borbuga,[4] Aubatha of Bergama,[6] and Tumira of Rawl'kha.[1]
During her tenure she advocated for the importance of these festivities and opposed politicians like Housecarl Mudgeon, who criticized the festival for its perceived frivolity and hedonistic behavior during times of great peril, arguing it contradicted the teachings of Jhunal and Stuhn.[5] She operated from a camp by the walls of Windhelm, helping to coordinate the festivities and rewarding those willing to offer help.[1][2] She was also known to be an associate of the enigmatic Impresario.[2] Aside from the joyful celebrations of the Bosmer,[7] Nords,[8] Dunmer,[9] Orcs,[10] Bretons,[11] and Khajiit,[12] and the commemorative celebrations of the Redguards,[13] Breda helped to coordinate various charitable works. These included the Altmeri custom of donating to charity for orphans of war,[14][15][1] and the Argonian effort to collect fish to feed the destitute and poor.[16][17][1]
Her camp also hosted representatives from the Imperial Resettlement Project, which aided Imperial refugees and arranged the more solemn celebrations of the Old Life Festival.[18][19][20] They also worked to ensure the donations of food and emergency supplies to people living in the coldest reaches of Skyrim.[21]
Breda's Bottomless Mead Mug, associated with the New Life Festival celebrations, was named after Breda herself.[22]
