Rilja Stone-Hearth

Rilja Stone-Hearth is a Nord pawnbroker with a stall in the Bruma market who specializes in ancient Nordic artifacts. During the related quest, she will ask you to collect five ancient Nord weapons for her.

After waking up early at 4am, Rilja spends a couple of hours relaxing and having breakfast in her shack in the slums, before heading off to her market stall at 7am. For the next ten hours, she will offer her services, buying and selling weapons, armor, ingredients, hides, and miscellaneous items. At 5pm, she heads to the Jerall View Inn for some food and drinks until 10pm, when she will head home and go straight to bed.

Rilja wears Colovian fur clothes and a pair of fine boots, and is armed with a unique sharpened Nord war axe. She also carries the key to her shack and a random selection of gold, lockpicks, gems, jewelry, food and drink.

Dialogue[edit]

Felki Silver-Plow will tell you:

"I'm envious of Rilja's Nordic artifact collection. Girl's honoring our ancestors."

Indeed, Rilja's pride in her Nord heritage is evident when meeting her:

"I'm proud of my ancestry, as should all Nords be."
"Here to browse my fine selection of Ancient Nordic items?"
"A slice of Nordic heritage, right here in Cyrodiil."

Inquiring into her collection's provenance will net you:

"Many of them I collected during my adventuring days. I used to wander Skyrim in search of opportunity and adventure. I went through my fair share of Nordic ruins back in those days, and I took a liking to the Ancient Nordic metalwork. So, I began to collect them as I adventured, and when I finally decided to settle down, I had quite an extensive stock."

If you then ask why she's selling it, she appears puzzled:

"Why not? It's not something you see up for sale very often, and I think there are plenty of Nords here in Bruma who'd like a little memento of their history."

If you ask how business is going, she says:

"It's doing well. A lot of travelers tend to buy from me, as well as young Nords who are soul-searching, trying to find their Nordic heritage here, in Cyrodiil."

Ask her why she's in Cyrodiil and she explains:

"The same reason I sell Ancient Nordic artifacts: so that the young Nords here in Bruma can be reminded of their roots. Bruma has all the surface trappings of Skyrim: the snow, the cold. But Skyrim is so much more than that, something Bruma isn't and can never be. It's about the Nordic ruins dotting the landscape, about the dragon walls. It's about the diversity: Whiterun and the Reach, the Pale and Eastmarch. That variation of Nordic culture is something Cyrodiil doesn't have. I'll be content if my presence here reminds just a few Nords that they're not just Imperials with more facial hair and deeper voices."

Bugs[edit]

  • Despite Rilja's conversation with Albecius mentioning her stall, you can actually overhear it while in other locations (e.g. the Jerall View Inn). ?

Notes[edit]

  • Her market stall has a few pieces of Nordic tableware on display, as well as a Nord war horn.

Conversations[edit]

Rilja can often be seen conversing with her customers. Ralgar Silver-Plow is a regular:

Rilja: "Hail, Ralgar. What brings you here today? Buying something?"

Ralgar: "Got any new wares, Rilja? Any bows?"
Rilja: "Sorry, Ralgar. Trade's been slow, what with all the trouble up north."
Ralgar: "Ah, it was a long shot anyways. Thanks, Rilja."
Ralgar: "Not today, Rilja. Selling."
Rilja: "Oh? What is it?"
Ralgar: "Nordic helm. My father found it in some barrow or something. Mine and Felki's anniversary is coming up, and since I have no use for it, well..."
Rilja: "I understand. I have an old scroll written by one of Skyrim's High Kings. I'm sure Felki would love it."
Ralgar: "You are a life saver, Rilja."
Ralgar: "Wife sent me. She said you had some amulet or other?"
Rilja: "I have several, actually. One supposedly worn by the Felldir the Old, another crafted in the fires of the Skyforge. Which one did Felki want?"
Ralgar: "Eh, I have no bloody clue... just give me them both. I'll pay."
Rilja: "You spoil her rotten, you know that?"
Ralgar: "Yes, I do. Thanks."
Ralgar: "Just looking, Rilja. Don't mind me."
Rilja: "Alright, tell me if anything catches your interest."
Rilja and Albecius bartering

Albecius Jucani, much less of a connoisseur than Ralgar, can also be overheard sharing some words with Rilja:

Albecius: "Well met, Rilja."
Rilja: "Albecius? Well, this is a bit of a surprise...what brings you to my stall?"
Albecius: "Banus's birthday is coming up soon. My wife says he likes your little trinkets, so I was thinking of buying a couple for him."
Rilja: "With all due respect, sir, these aren't just 'trinkets'. They're cultural artifacts, and-"
Albecius: "Rilja, please. Just sell me a knicknack that my boy would like. Understand?"
Rilja: "...I see. Well, here. I'm sure he'd love this old dagger. It's dull, so he won't hurt himself either."
Albecius: "Great. I'll take it. Thank you for your service, Rilja."
Rilja: "Right. It's been a...pleasure."
