Fort Istirus (alternatively known as the Istirus Outpost)[1] is an Imperial ruin found in the region of the West Weald, within the province of Cyrodiil. It is built along the Strid River, to protect the large body of water from the mass pirate activities.[2]

History[edit]

The Istirus Outpost was built in the late years of the Second Empire. There was a growing piracy problem across the Strid River, and the fort was created to administrate the water route. However, when the Three Banners War commenced across Cyrodiil, around 2E 580, the outpost was abandoned and plundered by the alliances. It has also been contested over by the alliances, but eventually, none of them were able to acquire it.[2][3] It is also located just east and outside of Varen's Wall, a stone wall that separates the Gold Coast from the rest of the province.

By 2E 582, the Istirus Outpost was used by the Circle of Champions, who used the ruins as one of their battlegrounds. Three teams battled each other at Istirus.[1]

Many years later in 3E 433, Fort Istirus was abandoned once again and inhabited by a coven of necromancers. The ruins were one of the four places across the provinces to contain an altar needed in the creation of Black Soul Gems. The phenomenon where these gems are created is known as the "Shade of the Revenant."[4]
