Pointers[edit]

Looks good!I have two things to say about it:

  1. The column widths really need to be fixed. Scrolling between letters is a pain with all different columns widths.
  2. I edited the LetterMenu template to allow for custom links to be added to the letter trail. Just use this code instead:
{{LetterMenu|QUXYZ|[[#Key to|Key to...]]}}

Otherwise, awesome job! I remember going through and filling in a bunch of the info for what the key goes to, and that was a pain. ?• JATalk 22:33, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

How does this look? The Silencer 01:56, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
Much better. Is scope="col" necessary? If you define the width once in the header, the width attribute propagates down and the entire column is fixed-width. Also, don't define every width with x px. Currently the numbers add up to 825, which means that with any window size greater that about 1000 pixels wide (giving plenty of room for the margins) the browser will stretch the table however it wants to, and for me Chrome is adding on the extra bit randomly. I suggest defining all but the last column's width, or getting rid of the width: 100%; (which I don't recommend).
I'm not very keen on considering "Key to" equivalent to "The" and subsequently mixing them in the table. I think either having a giant K section or a dedicated "Key to" section is best. Plus, with the above modification to the LetterMenu template, you can append a "Key to" link next to the pretty letter links.
Still, awesome job! Each new improvement helps the page that much more! ?• JATalk 08:04, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
I honestly don't know how to format tables, I'm just sort of guessing, if you could work out a template I'll change the tables. I've tried going by what the location is named on the site. A giant section of "Keys to" might work, there is a parallel discussion on the keys page about this. Thanks for the help so far. :) The Silencer 14:21, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
For someone with no idea how to format tables you did a damn fine job. With something like this, there's no need for templates - a table is just fine. I went ahead and removed the duplicate entries, fixed the column widths to percentages, added the "Key to" link to the LetterMenu, and changed the "Key to" section so it didn't count the word "the" in the alphabetical listing. If you don't like what I did, feel free to undo it, but right now I think it's all ready to go. By the way, the collapsible tables are a nice touch. ?• JATalk 19:48, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
I just looked for similar tables and copied them. It looks good, the key to section is right because it lets people look for the name of the key. Thanks for the help. The Silencer 20:16, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
I went ahead and updated Keys with this sandbox. Good work! ?• JATalk 05:57, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Dragon Door Animal Totem images[edit]

I added images for all of the dragon door totems I could find. Sorry about the color difference. I couldn't find them all at one door, and the lighting varies at each one.

I could only find one bird-type totem, which I named Hawk. Not sure if there is an eagle somewhere. I checked every door except Bleak Falls Barrow. My earliest save game is in front of this door, AFTER I opened it (grrr!).

There is a book (Notes on Yngol Barrow) that says it's in Yngol Barrow, and another for Ansilvund, both without a hawk symbol. Might it only exist on the rotating symbols rather than the dragon claw doors, and to really be annoying, they might provide clearer pictures, for example the whale one that was already on the traps page. The Silencer has spokenTalk 07:21, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
All "totems" are listed in the book The Dragon War. The Silencer has spokenTalk 07:40, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
It appears, after checking 5 locations, that only Snake, Whale, and Hawk/Eagle are used on the rotating stones. Notes on Yngol Barrow calls the bird totem Hawk, while The Dragon War calls it Eagle. <sigh>. I guess we'll have to pick one over the other. It seems that more articles refer to it as Eagle than Hawk.

() I uploaded 6 images of the stones, 3 under white light (Candlelight spell), and 3 under yellow light (bonfires). I'll add all 6 to the page. --Xyzzy 04:02, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Confirmed the rest of them. • JATalk 19:21, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Jak, I just can't find my nearly complete save with the claws. The Silencer has spokenTalk 19:26, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
On the topic of symbols, it looks like the eagle is only ever referred to as an eagle in the Construction Kit, never a hawk. Given that two of the three books also refer to it as an eagle, I would suggest reversing how you've got it now and going with "eagle" as the main name, with "hawk" listed as the secondary usage. Robin Hoodtalk 21:34, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
Just had a search for more books and there is only these three. With a 2:1 majority, it looks like its an Eagle. The Silencer has spokenTalk 21:49, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

"Others" Section[edit]

One of the quest requirements for Deceiving the Herd is that it be in a city, so I believe the entire "Other" section can go. Also, how did you come up with your list? Was it just by looking at the faction members for each of the factions on the Deceiving the Herd talk page? Cuz I'm thinking that when there are "replacement" workers, like Ysolda taking over for Belethor, for example, those replacements may get added to the relevant factions, so they may become high-profile NPCs, even though they weren't previously. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:42, 28 April 2013 (GMT)

Just the faction lists in the CS. Apparently you can get other people to the cities and use them (Dead Thrall or followers). Everyone essential was discounted, so Ysolda is not there. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:57, 28 April 2013 (GMT)
I'm thinking the easy way to get around having to list all the backups might be to just add a note on the quest page saying that backup merchants usually become high-profile targets if they replace someone, but aren't initially. Dunno how to word it so it's understandable. Actually, come to think of it, that might be the best way to handle the others as well. Rather than listing so many names, just note that there can be others, and maybe list their factions, but that you have to be creative about getting them into the cities if they don't live/go there already.
