Thank you[edit]

Lurlock -

Thanks for the username change. It was easier than I imagined - even logged in okay :)) User:Maeve4444 03:49, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Easier than I thought too. Not many people request it (complete list), so I've never gotten the chance to try it before. Figured, what the heck, let's do this. Surprisingly painless. Only thing I'm not sure is if it'll merge two existing accounts, which I'd need to do if I ever wanted to change my own name to what I originally wanted. Maybe I'll just leave it though - it's like tradition now. I've even got an acronym - people have been calling me TRL for short. (Took a bit to figure out that was me, actually.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 03:58, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Shiny![edit]

Shiny Gold Star.jpg
You have been given a shiny gold star!

Nice work on the Alchemy Appendix— I remember back when the alchemy appendix discussion was going on in the CP many months ago, and it's a really nice thing to see it complete and in Lorespace! And also, for adding icons for all the Skyrim potions. They're a really nice touch for the Potions page. Great work!

Great job!--Skyrimplayer 18:56, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
The missing icons (not just in potions, but all over Skyrim space) have been bothering me for a while. The problem is that the icons aren't really icons per se, but actual 3D models, so you have to render them from within the game, not from the editor. Hardest part was finding an all-black background so that I can get a picture with alpha. I ultimately had to make my own modded room just to do that. Unfortunately, I don't know if I can do all the spells this way - the effects tend to overlap the description box, and I don't know any way to make the description box go away without also making the effect disappear. ("TM" makes both go away.) Anyhow, work in progress, more soon. --TheRealLurlock Talk 21:53, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
Sounds like a lot of work, more than I realized. The potion ones you've done look really great, so good luck with the others on your to-do list! ABCface 21:56, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Deletion needed[edit]

Heys I accidentally made a new page when trying to make my sandbox... created a whole new page type infact... my bad! Its this thing here {{Deleted}User_sandbox:Lord_Eydvar}} Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 15:44, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

Done. TheRealLurlock (talk) 15:45, 3 September 2012 (EDT)
Thanks and I did end up getting the sandbox to work right rofl... I don't know how i made that thing... Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 15:46, 3 September 2012 (EDT)
Anyone with an account can make a page and call it whatever they want, even if it doesn't correspond to our established namespaces. However, it only makes a sort of pseudo-namespace. (In reality, I think the page is actually in Main space when you do that.) It's not a serious problem, except that it can confuse the search tool, though it's unlikely that your sandbox is going to be something people would be searching for, so it wouldn't matter much. Anyhow, you fixed it, so problem solved. TheRealLurlock (talk) 15:50, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

Clothes[edit]

Hey TRL. Just noticed your work with all the jewelry icons – excellent job, and very close to fulfilling one of my biggest wishes since November 11th, namely to get the clothes, hats and boots (and everything else with the same name, but different IDs) sorted out. Since day one, every time I have written an NPC page I have just added a link to clothes, even if there are 8 different types of clothing. That is far from perfect, and I think we should look into solving it somehow. Back in the day, Alfwyn and I worked on an idea about clothing icons, one for each set of clothes, the same with boots and hats, and somehow get them separated so we would be able to make better links when adding inventories to NPC pages. It’s a bit complicated to explain, but I wanted to plant the idea in your head – as that entire page could use cool icons to show what the clothes looks like. If you have any ideas on how to sort it, I’d be more than happy to do the tweaking – even the Photoshop stuff – and it’s definitely needed, because every time I write an NPC page, I know I’ll have to go back and change the links some day. So, any ideas? --Krusty (talk) 16:15, 9 September 2012 (EDT)

Well, I was planning on weapons and armor first - I think more people care about that, but eventually I'll get around to everything. I'm also thinking we should redo the ingredients - they're all really small, and don't follow the naming convention for icons. Also really want the spell effect icons - supposedly CoolGamer is working on those, I'd like to see what he comes up with. As for splitting up the same-name-different-ID items, I'm for it, possibly with the stipulation that we just split them by graphic. (Items with different IDs but the same graphic can still be combined - there's probably a few of those around.) I followed that policy with the Werewolf Totems on Skyrim:Quest Items. Although I did not do that for all 12 Fragments of Wuuthrad. Mainly the distinction there is that the Totems are fundamentally different in that they give you different powers, whereas the Wuuthrad pieces are all identical in function, even if their graphics are unique. I think the combined screenshot works well there. Likewise for the Opaque Vessel and Warped Soul Gems, etc., since they're all pretty much the same (and in those cases have the same graphics too.) With base clothing, the only likely difference will be appearance (and minor stuff like weight/value), so the case for splitting them up any more than by just appearance is pretty weak. TheRealLurlock (talk) 16:54, 9 September 2012 (EDT)
Yeah, I know we have bigger fish to fry, but every day a wrong link is added, so it’s something we should look into sooner or later. My dream is that we could separate each type of clothes into a linkable entry, and even get all UESP-like with a smallll image of the clothes for each entry. Still, glad you’ll look into it – when it finally happens we will have TONS of clothes, boots and hat-links to fix. ☺ --Krusty (talk) 17:02, 9 September 2012 (EDT)
Sounds like a job for a bot - we should ask RobinHood if he can come up with something. I mean, not right away, of course, since the break-out would have to happen first. (It's also occurred to me doing this that we never put all the Oblivion icons up on the site - we pretty much just have ingredients and spell effects. Surprising that it's gone this long without that being done...) TheRealLurlock (talk) 17:07, 9 September 2012 (EDT)
I'm testing out a formatting option for separating the 12 different varieties of clothes here. I added example links just below the boxes, to show how it would look if you link to a section. If anyone is curious how it works, I basically tricked the page into thinking that those boxes are citations used by the {{Note}} template. • JAT 02:20, 28 September 2012 (GMT)

Item Data tweak[edit]

In regards to your recent edit, I had actually left that in there even if they were all empty so that it wouldn't give us jagged-edged tables. I take it there are times when we don't want it to show? Robin Hoodtalk 03:33, 18 September 2012 (GMT)

Yeah, as you'll soon see in the edit I'm working on for Skyrim:Weapons. If it's only one cell, you don't get jagged edged tables - the missing cells are automatically created anyhow, so there's no worry. If it were more than one column that could be missing, it could be a problem, but that's not the case here. TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:38, 18 September 2012 (GMT)
Have a look at Skyrim:Quest Items#Illusory War Axe and you'll see what I mean. There's no right-hand border. We might have to come up with a different way to handle it when we don't want the final cell to show. Robin Hoodtalk 04:04, 18 September 2012 (GMT)
Looks exactly the same to me - might be a difference in browser? (Firefox here) You could just set "notes= " if you want an empty cell, which should fix it. I think that should cover pretty much most cases. TheRealLurlock (talk) 00:09, 19 September 2012 (GMT)
That seems to be a Firefox bug. It looks fine in my Firefox too, but I tried IE, Chrome, and Safari (haven't gotten around to installing Opera yet) and all three are missing the right-hand border. The notes tweak would probably work, you're right, but I'm concerned it might have unexpected results if we start transcluding that info onto other pages. It'll work for now, though, so I'll do that. I'm thinking we might want to change approach later and do two separate templates, one for saving, one for displaying, like we're doing in Morrowind with the {{Non-Relevant NPC}} template. I dunno...probably the best thing for now is just to see how the Item Data template evolves as we start using it in more places and make decisions later. I was stalking your user page and...[edit]

Just about laughed my fine boots off. Your sandbox names are quite entertaining and honestly, I thought of every Stallone and Schwarzenegger movie sequel out there for some reason. Good job at making someone laugh this morning, that is all now get back to work.--FubarFrank (talk) 13:37, 22 September 2012 (GMT)
