Yeah, I'm new to all, I mean all of this editing pages stuff, so I was wondering if anybody could help me out here...

• It'd be nice if someone could tell me how tables of contents work, as I have one in there with no idea where it came from, and I want to put another one in the beginning to be able to scroll by chapter.

Table of Contents charts are generated automatically if you use headers in your text. To do this, you need to make your chapter titles by placing them between = signs. There are 5 levels of headers:

 =Level 1=
 ==Level 2==
 ===Level 3===
 ====Level 4====
 =====Level 5====

Level 1

Level 2

Level 3

Level 4

Level 5

Generally, this site uses only levels 2 and 3, and occasionally 4. If there are more than 3 headers on a page, a TOC appears automatically, unless (as I have) you put the term "__NOTOC__" at the top somewhere. If you want a TOC and there are less than 4 headers, you can force one with a "__TOC__" command instad. This also allows you to place the TOC wherever you want it, so like if I wanted it at the bottom, I'd just do this: (look at the page code to see how I did it)

Actually, you can, but the === stuff takes precedence. If you nested it the other way, ==='''Title'''===, it would work. Though all title headers are already bold, so that won't do much. But you could make them italic or change the font size, color, add links in titles, etc. Just make sure that the === signs are always on the outside. --TheRealLurlock ^Talk 17:14, 2 March 2007 (EST)

I'd like to second that suggestion, six months later. This story really needs to be split up into individual pages for each chapter. The only reason that the page is currently one of the longest on the site is because nobody has put the work into splitting up yet; so it's not really something to be proud of.
