Thanks for the assist...[edit]

You do things in a rush, you get sloppy. Should've noticed I forgot the categories. I'm still shocked we didn't already have those on the site. Granted I had to do a little editing to remove the icons that appear on top of the map in-game, but I think it works. And they're actually higher resolution than the full Tamriel map that we previously had for Arena. I just didn't want to use maps such as this one on pages such as Firewatch, where the map doesn't actually feature the city in question... --TheRealLurlock Talk 14:51, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

No problem! I'm just really excited that there *are* maps for the different regions (I've never played Arena, so I assumed there really weren't any since we didn't have them). And yeah, the annotated versions especially are much more helpful than the lore-style maps. Anyway, thanks for uploading them! eshetalk 14:53, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Verification needed tag[edit]

Can you point me towards the usage for the vn tag? I guess I don't fully understand how it's used, and I can't seem to find it on my own. Thanks! --Xyzzy 21:27, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Basically, the vn=1 on a Bug template means that only one user has reported this bug. When another user can confirm they encountered the same bug, it should be changed to confirmed=1. There are also ways of marking it if a patch fixes the bug, etc. If you look at the Template:Bug page, it explains how the Bug template works, including the vn=1 markup. Hope this helps. (Hope you don't mind me jumping in here, Eshe!) ABCface 22:02, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for directing me there. I couldn't seem to find it. I noticed that the vn=1 tag doesn't place a Verification needed note that is visible on the page. This makes it difficult for someone like me to see that the bug needs verification. Is it just assumed that they may need verification, so users should look on the edit page? --Xyzzy 01:05, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, that is the one downside of the bug template I suppose. I bet there's a way to change the template to make a VN tag more visible for bugs that still need confirmation, but I'm not willing to give myself the headache to try it ;). Best ask at the CP for that.
Totally unrelated, but I saw the image you just uploaded—wicked cool! eshetalk 01:57, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
My original intent was to deprecate the vn parameter on the bug template and eventually get rid of it entirely (the assumption being that anything unconfirmed inherently needed verification), but I've been wondering if we wanted to convert it to automatically include a VN instead. My thinking is that some bug reports are more dubious than others and should probably be noted as such, but then we're creating a three-tiered bug report system (confirmed, normal, and VNed) instead of the original two-tiered one. I have mixed feelings on whether that's a good idea or not. Robin Hoodtalk 03:06, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

help with user profile[edit]

how do i create a profile everytime i click on my user name it says page not found please help.--MadokaOda 01:58, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

It only says your page doesn't exist because you haven't made it yet. To create your page, just click your name and use the big white edit box to add content, and use the show preview button to see what it looks like before you save. You might want to check out this page if you're interested in some userboxes for your page. Hope that helps! eshetalk 02:04, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Quotation Marks[edit]

Per this edit, there was a discussion/decision some time ago to use the British style of logical quotation on the site. I can't find anything about it on UESPWiki:Spelling, but you might want to ask Minor Edits, as he seemed to be the driving force behind it. --Legoless 17:43, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

I've reverted the edit. You were most likely looking for UESPWiki:Archive/CP Quoting and Punctuation Format and UESPWiki:Style Guide#Language. elliot (talk) 17:53, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, just going by the grammar standards I know. Guess I should've checked the guide first! Thanks, guys. eshetalk 18:00, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
I'm actually not a fan of the rule, which was in place before I was really active. I think combining American spelling with a British grammar rule can be counter-intuitive to new users, and even vets. It's a camel (a horse designed by committee). However, the convention is so widespread that changing it now would be a big waste of time. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 21:11, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Editing too much[edit]

Sorry I will try not to do this at all :D AlphaArgonian182 19:42, 24th May 2012 (UTC)

Cookie[edit]

PlateofCookies.gif
You have been given a plateful of cookies!

Okay, so I sit down to do a push on Patrolling, only to discover you've done roughly 1/3 of the remainder all on your own! That definitely deserves a cookie or ten! Robin Hoodtalk 18:08, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks RH! Don't worry, there's still plenty left ;) eshetalk 18:28, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Anonymous Users[edit]

Not to intrude but aren't IP blocks limited to 1 year. The Silencer has spokenTalk 13:41, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

No, they aren't. In some cases we use shorter blocks for IPs, just in case it's a public or dynamic IP address that could prevent good-faith editors from contributing to the site. In this case, I simply chose not to prevent account creation. Any good-faith editors from using IP address can either create an account or request an appeal on the talk page. eshetalk 14:51, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
Sorry. I should have read the blocking policy. I remembered something vague that an admin had posted on someones page to do with blocking IPs. Of course I can't find it now to re-read but that's by-the-by. The Silencer has spokenTalk 15:13, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

UESPWiki:Image Requests[edit]

Hey, Eshe! Krusty suggested pointing out the new Image Requests page (which was discussed on the CP here) to you, with the suggestion of adding the page to your watchlist if you're interested in being a regular contributor to the page. :) ABCface 21:22, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Archive[edit]

Hey Eshe. I was wondering if you could rectify the two archives on Skyrim talk:Thieves Guild (faction). You just created one for Nov-May, but an archive already existed for Nov-Jan. Hopefully you have a better understanding of the chronological order of the posts, because I can't figure out which to move to the old archive. —Legoless 14:55, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, there's a lot of overlap, which is largely why I decided to leave it as-is. Given the gaps between the original posts and replies in many cases, I think it would be near impossible to split them up nicely. That basically leaves us with two options: either leave them with confusing names (Nov-Jan and Nov-May) or technically inaccurate names (Nov-Jan and Feb-May). eshetalk 17:21, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Bandits[edit]

Just a friendly prompt about the Bandits WIP. The last edit to the sandbox was on the 19th May. The Silencer speaksTalk 15:10, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

I'm aware, thanks. I do intend to complete the page, but real life (work, school, family crap, and buying a house) has slowed my progress significantly. eshetalk 17:21, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

hey um im noligable about oblivion goty and skyrim[edit]

I was wonder how to become a good editor and what are the ranks that a uesp editor can get thank you — Unsigned comment by 173.55.184.189 (talk) at 19:58 on 23 June 2012

Hi there! Sorry for the late response—I'm not around much on weekends and this was a particularly busy one for me.
Anyway, if you want to be a regular editor here, the first thing I'd recommend doing is creating an account (that way it'll be easier to recognize you!). Other than that, we have a lot of pages aimed at helping new editors familiarize themselves with our standards and guidelines. These in particular are really helpful:
We don't technically have any "ranks" here, though there are a few different types of users who perform different tasks around the site. Patrollers and Userpatrollers monitor all the changes made to the site and check for accuracy, style, and any possible vandalism. Blockers are a small group of users who have the ability to block users (such as vandals or spammers) in case there isn't an admin around. I hope that helps!
If you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to ask! Have fun :) eshetalk 13:33, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Mentor?[edit]

Howdy, used to help edit here a while back for Oblivion, and kind of fell out of favor. Found myself picking up Skyrim again after a break, and figured I'd get back into the swing of things. Just thought I'd ask for some basic guidance on what needs to be updated, and the currently protocol on talk pages, signatures, jazz like that (Never really bothered with any of that sort before) Thanks for the time! Also if you can tell my why putting the 4x~ looks so jacked up, be much obliged... --D521Talk 01:05, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Eshe is currently on a break, but I can help you with your signature issues. You need to check the box that says, "treat the above as wiki markup". That should fix it. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 01:07, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I for sure don't have that box lol... Only box on my edit page are 'minor edit' and 'watch this page' lol... --D521Talk 14:50, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes you do. It's directly below the signature box found under the user profile tab in "my preferences", not under the editing tab. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 14:52, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Apologies, went hunting through the preferences and found what you were talking about. Thanks much! D521talk 14:58, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
