The UESPWiki – Your source for The Elder Scrolls since 1995
Jump to: navigation, search

Hi, DyInuge, welcome to UESP! We're always happy to see new editors who have wiki experience. But try not to assume that because a few editors don't know the rules, that means there is a lack of collaboration here. As you can see on our style guide, no attribution and no first person are both UESP guidelines. The regular editors try to clean up after the occasional contributors who don't follow these guidelines, but not everything gets caught. So your edits today are definitely appreciated, and I hope you continue to contribute! Let me know if you have any questions. --Nephele 23:45, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

We are not Wikipedia!!![edit]

Wikipedia has thousands of serious contributors. We have around ten serious contributors. Wikipedia's majority consists of college professors, professional authors, and some of the brightest minds in the modern age. Our majority consists of a couple hundred 14-year-olds who want to tell the world how they saw two guards get into a fight.

For most of us here at the UESP, this site is just an enjoyable hobby where we can share our knowledge about the Elder Scrolls series with others. We already realise that we have people who write like "there was this 1 tiem, whrere i hit some1, and the guards got all weird n startd to atak each other it waas sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wierd --dum drum dumb", and we know that this needs to be fixed. We have weeds all over the site and the faithful editors here work relentlessly to remove them. Even Wikipedia had to deal with numerous weed planters such as these in the beginning, but eventually Wikipedia grew into the vast garden that it is today. That is what our goal is in the end.

In short, if all of our problems were fixed, there would be nothing left for us to work on. Fortunately, there are so many problems with the site and so many ways that we can contribute in making them go away. If you would like to help us with our project, we could definitely use your experience with other wikis. It seems that you already know a lot about the policies, guidelines, and customs that Wikipedia holds, and we could benefit from having some of that rub off on us. I hope you decide to help contribute to the site. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to contact me. --Aristeo 01:41, 4 October 2006 (EDT)

Actually, that reminds of me this one time, I was out in the wilderness, and these 2 legion arch3rs began attacking each other because one missed the deer and hit the other archer! Isn't that 1337! Lol, seriously, of course this page is going to have problems with 1st person and 14 year olds because the game caters to 14 year olds. All you can do is just set a good example and hope they follow it. — Unsigned comment by Timmeh (talkcontribs)

Extent of Spoilers allowed on NPC pages[edit]

Hey Dylnuge....I reversed an edit you made to an NPC page where you removed the allusion to some facts on an NPC and replaced it with specific information. There has been an ongoing discussion on the extent of "spoilers" that should be posted on the wiki on NPC and quest pages. We would welcome your input into that discussion if you would like to provide it, but at this point my understanding is that we are NOT to post specific "spoiler" information on NPC pages....allusions that there is something there for the reader to look for is OK. While technically your revision was factually correct, our goal is not to provide a step by step, lead by the nose walkthrough on the game (there are plenty of those out there), but instead to provide enough information to "help" users along the way. At least, that is how I understand what we are trying to do. Please feel free to leave me any comments on my talk page, or join us on the Chat and support channel to discuss. (see Chat and Support link on left hand side of screen) Thanks! --Hoggwild5 22:01, 25 October 2006 (EDT)

Recent Updates to Userpage[edit]

Finally, I have gotten my Userpage updated. Considering moving mod list to a seperate page, as it seems kind of bulky. Any comments, suggestions, or thoughts (on userpage or mod list)?-- Dylnuge(talk · edits) 23:27, 16 November 2006 (EST)

Wikiscrolls[edit]

Hey, I wanted to reply to your comments about Wikiscrolls here instead of on the community portal since the temperature there seems to be a bit high. Thanks a lot for your support in our project and for your understanding about why we need to start this project. I already have a temporary forum set up where we can plan the project while the wiki software that will host the project is being developed. If you have any thoughts about anything, half-baked or fully-done, feel free to submit them to the forum. (I've already started a variety of topics that might need some input as well.)

I've also published the code that I've developed so far for the wiki software on the forum, which is in Visual Basic .NET. I'm not sure if you're familiar with VB.net, but if you are then I could definitely use your help. (I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to programming. You'll find that a lot of what I'm doing on this project is a first-time experience.)

Well, if you have any questions, you'll probably want to ask them on the forum or in private message. (I think some people would frown on planning Wikiscrolls on this site.) Thanks again! --Aristeo | Talk 23:48, 18 January 2007 (EST)
