This is a list of all minerals, metals, and precious stones found in the world of Tamriel and beyond.

Adamantium[edit]

Full article

Adamantium armor and weapons have been available since Arena and Daggerfall, and were always among the best items money could buy. In Morrowind, the armor was made available via an official mod, or the Tribunal expansion, which also featured weapons, and Adamantium Ore, an alchemical ingredient mined from the caves beneath Mournhold which can be used to craft the armor. Elder Scrolls Online features Adamantite, a presumably related material used to craft items in the Altmer Style.

Aetherium[edit]

Full article

Aetherium is an incredibly rare luminescent blue crystal, possibly meteoric in origin, used by the Dwemer to craft powerful artifacts. It is notoriously difficult to work with and the craft has been lost for millenia. Even the Dwemer had difficulty with it, and only one forge was ever built, which caused so much infighting among the Dwemer factions that it ultimately weakened them to near extinction.

Almandine[edit]

Almandine is a gemstone used in Elder Scrolls Online to craft armor with the Well-Fitted trait, allowing easier movement while wearing it.

Amber[edit]

Full article

Amber was available as an alchemy ingredient in Daggerfall, and made a brief appearance in Redguard, but was not readily useful for much until Shivering Isles, where it could be crafted into armor and weapons.

Amethyst[edit]

Amethyst was occasionally used to make keys in Arena, but amethysts became commonly used in Skyrim to craft jewelry. In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft weapons with the Charged trait, which allows them to carry more enchantment uses.

Argentum[edit]

Possibly another name for Silver, this metal is used in Elder Scrolls Online to craft items in the Primal Style.

Bloodstone[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, this is used to craft armor with the Infused trait, which carries more powerful enchantments.

Brass[edit]

Brass was an alchemical ingredient in Daggerfall, and items made from brass have been seen in Morrowind and Oblivion. The metal turns up numerous times in lore, most notably in relation to Numidium, also known as the "Brass God". It is possible that the metal used by the Dwemer was some form of brass, but this could not have been any common brass, as modern smiths have been unable to reproduce it - Dwemer armor and weapons are crafted only by melting down parts of old Dwemer automatons and other machinery, and are of fairly high quality, whereas brass is found as a cheap, low-quality metal in many locations.

Calcinium[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, this is used to craft upper-middle range heavy armor and weapons.

Carnelian[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, this is used to craft weapons with the Training trait, making it easier to learn the skills needed to wield them.

Chysolite[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, this is used to craft weapons with the Powered trait, which allows their enchantments to be used more frequently without cooldown.

Citrine[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, this is used to craft weapons with the Weighted trait, which increases their attack speed.

Copper[edit]

Copper was an alchemical ingredient in Daggerfall, and items made from copper (generally of low quality) have been seen in Oblivion and Skyrim. In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft items in the Barbaric Style.

Corundum[edit]

Corundum appeared in Skyrim, as an ore which can be smelted into ingots, which is used to craft certain types of armor. Corundum can also be combined with iron to produce steel. In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft items in the Nord Style.

  • Note: In real life, corundum is a crystalline form of aluminum oxide, notable for being one of the hardest materials found in nature (almost as hard as diamond). It's possible the developers were thinking of carborundum, a silicon and carbon compound which is actually involved in the production of steel.

Diamond[edit]

Diamonds were occasionally used to make keys in Arena. They became an alchemical ingredient in both Daggerfall and Morrowind. In Oblivion, they served little purpose other than valuable loot to be exchanged for gold. In Skyrim, they could be used to craft high quality jewelry. In Elder Scrolls Online, they are used to craft armor with the Impenetrable trait, which makes the wearer less susceptible to critical attacks.

Dwarven/Dwemer[edit]

Full article

No name has ever been given for the metal used by the Dwemer. Items made from the metal are variously referred to as simply "Dwarven" or "Dwemer". It is possible that it may be some form of brass. The Numidium was a Dwemer construct, and often referred to as the "Brass God". Whether this means it was actually made from brass or simply had the appearance of brass is unknown. What is known is that this metal is significantly higher quality than any modern brass, and is often melted down and used to craft higher-end heavy armor and weapons. Dwarven armor and weapons have been seen in every game in the series. See: Morrowind article, Skyrim article, ESO armor article, ESO weapons article.

Ebony[edit]

Full article

Ebony is a form of volcanic glass, which is used to make the highest quality heavy armor and weapons available. Ebony items can be infused with the soul of a Daedra to produce even higher quality Daedric items. Ebony items have been available in all of the games in the series. Raw Ebony could be found in Morrowind, and could be used as an alchemical ingredient. Tribunal added the ability to craft it into armor and weapons, though these items were available before. In Skyrim, Ebony Ore could be mined and smelted into Ebony Ingots, and then crafted into either Ebony or Daedric armor and weapons. See: Morrowind article, Skyrim article, ESO armor article, ESO weapons article.

  • Note: In real life, ebony is a hard wood, rather than a mineral. Like Tamriel ebony, it is very heavy and nearly black in color, but the similarities end there.

Emerald[edit]

Emeralds were occasionally used to make keys in Arena. They became an alchemical ingredient in both Daggerfall and Morrowind. In Oblivion, they served little purpose other than valuable loot to be exchanged for gold. In Skyrim, they could be used to craft high quality jewelry. In Elder Scrolls Online, they are used to craft armor with the Training trait, allowing the wearer to learn the related skills more quickly.

Fire Opal[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, they are used to craft weapons with the Sharpened trait, which increase armor and spell penetration when using them.

Flint[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft items in the Argonian Style.

Galatite[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft high-level heavy armor and weapons.

Garnet[edit]

Garnets first appeared in Skyrim, a deep red gemstone that could be crafted into low-end jewelry. A Garnet Camp was found in Oblivion, so they have existed conceptually at least since then, but they were never seen until Skyrim. In Elder Scrolls Online, they are used to craft armor with the Exploration trait, which grants the user more experience for discovering new locations.

Geode[edit]

Actual Geodes have not appeared in any game, but Geode Veins are found within Blackreach in Skyrim, and can be mined for Soul Gems. Some Geode Veins produce Corundum Ore instead.

Glass[edit]

Many common objects are made from glass, such as windows, dishes, urns, lanterns, etc. Generally, however, the term "Glass" refers to armor and weapons made from Malachite. This is much harder and less brittle than common glass, as well as being very lightweight - among the very best material for light armor. Additionally, Ebony is also a form of volcanic glass, much stronger than Malachite, though also much heavier. See Malachite and Ebony for more information on these materials.

Gold[edit]

Gold has been seen in every game in the series, most notably as the metal used to make the primary currency of the realm, the Imperial Septim. In Daggerfall, it was available as an alchemical ingredient. In Morrowind, an official plug-in made gold armor available for female characters. Gold could be found in mines in Oblivion and Skyrim, and in Skyrim it could be forged into ingots and used to craft jewelry. Gold jewelry was also available (though not craftable) in earlier games.

Iron[edit]

Iron is by far the most commonly used metal in all of Tamriel. It has been seen in all of the games, and used to make weapon, armor, and various other common objects, such as keys, kitchen utensils and cookware, candlesticks, etc. Generally, it is found in the lowest quality heavy armors and weapons. In Daggerfall, it was available as an alchemy ingredient. Morrowind and Oblivion both featured iron armor and weapons, and in Skyrim, you could mine ore, and forge armor and weapons yourself. Iron is also notable as a component of stronger steel. Iron ore in Skyrim could be combined with corundum to produce steel ingots, from which better items could be forged. In Elder Scrolls Online, it is also used to craft low-level heavy armor and weapons.

Jade[edit]

Jade is a greenish stone used to make jewelry. It was available as an alchemical ingredient in Daggerfall and Shadowkey. In Oblivion and Skyrim, certain jewelry items were seen with jade in them, although jade was never seen in its raw form, and could not be used in crafting. In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft weapons with the Infused trait, which can carry more powerful enchantments.

Lead[edit]

Lead is a soft, heavy, dull grey metal. So far, its only appearance in the games has been in Daggerfall, where it was an alchemical ingredient.

Lodestone[edit]

Lodestone is a mineral known for its magnetic attraction to iron. In the games, it has appeared only in Daggerfall, as an alchemical ingredient, though it was also mentioned in both versions of The Real Barenziah, along with its magnetic properties.

Malachite[edit]

Full article

Malachite first appeared in Daggerfall as an alchemical ingredient. Morrowind had Raw Glass that could be mined, and also introduced glass armor and weapons, which were also available in Oblivion and Skyrim. It wasn't until Skyrim, however, that the connection between the two was made. Malachite Ore can be mined and refined in Skyrim, and used to craft Glass armor and weapons. In all games in which they have been featured, glass armor is among the highest quality light armor available (exceeded in Skyrim only by Dragonscale). It should be noted that there are many items made from common glass that are not malachite.

Manganese[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, this is used to craft items in the Orcish Style. (This is a change from Skyrim, where Orcish items were made from Orichalcum.)

Mercury[edit]

Mercury was available as an alchemical ingredient in Daggerfall, but has not been seen since. A generic magic shield of Dwarven make can be found in Oblivion called a Mercury Shield. (A cursed variety also exists in the Shivering Isles expansion.)

  • In real life, mercury is often referred to as quicksilver, which is a mineral seen in Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Online, but it is unknown if there is any connection between these. Real mercury of course is also liquid at room temperature, which would make it not very useful for crafting weapons and armor.

Mithril[edit]

Mithril is a metal of Elvish origin that was used to make armor and weapons in Arena and Daggerfall. It reappeared in Oblivion as armor, though not weapons.

Molybdenum[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, this is used to craft items in the Breton Style.

Moonstone[edit]

Moonstone is a mineral first seen in Skyrim, and it can be refined and used (usually alongside Quicksilver) to craft Elven weapons and armor. Elven armor was also seen in earlier games, but the connection with Moonstone was not established until Skyrim. In Elder Scrolls Online, this is used to craft items in the Khajiit Style.

Nickel[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, this is used to craft items in the Imperial Style.

Obsidian[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, this is used to craft items in the Dunmer Style.

Orichalcum[edit]

Full article

Orichalcum is a greenish-grey metal used by the Orcs to craft weapons and armor. While Orcish items have been found in Morriwnd, Oblivion, and Skyrim, the association with the name "Orichalcum" was only established in Skyrim, where it can be mined and smelted into ingots to craft Orcish armor and weapons. In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft lower-middle range weapons and armor.

Palladium[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft items in the Ancient Elf Style.

Pearl[edit]

While not strictly minerals, Pearls have had mineral-like properties and are often used as gemstones. They are small white stone-like objects produced by kollops or clams, molluscs found in grottos and on seabeds. Pearls could be found in Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. In all of them but Oblivion, they are used as alchemy ingredients. In Oblivion, they are merely loot which can be sold. In Morrowind, Kollops can be found and mined for pearls. Oblivion has clams, which serve the same role. While Skyrim also has clams, but they only produce Clam Meat. In Skyrim, there are also Small Pearls, which are also used in alchemy. Neither can be found in their natural habitat, however, only as random loot or sold by vendors.

Platinum[edit]

Platinum was seen as an alchemical ingredient in Daggerfall, and not in any other games.

Quartz[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft armor with the Sturdy trait, which makes it less likely to become damaged, even when the wearer is killed.

Quicksilver[edit]

Quicksilver is a metal used in the production of certain types of Elven armor and weapons. It only appeared in its raw form in Skyrim, as an ore and ingot used in crafting. However, the word has appeared in earlier games, as a spell in Morrowind, and a pair of boots in Oblivion, in both cases providing a boost in speed. In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft high-level armor and weapons.

  • In real life, Quicksilver is used as another name for Mercury, a metal which is liquid at room temperature and thus not particularly suitable for armor and weapons. It is unknown whether there is any intended relationship between these two in the Elder Scrolls universe.

Ruby[edit]

Rubies were occasionally used to fashion keys in Arena. In Daggerfall and Morrowind, they were seen as alchemical ingredients. Oblivion had rubies, but only as loot to be exchanged for gold, and sometimes as decorative elements in certain jewelry pieces. Skyrim also had rubies, which could be combined with Gold or Silver to craft your own jewelry. In Elder Scrolls Online, they are used to craft weapons with the Precise trait, which are more likely to score critical hits.

Sapphire[edit]

Sapphires were occasionally used to fashion keys in Arena. In Daggerfall, they appeared as alchemical ingredients. Morrowind did not have sapphires as loose gemstones, but they were found in some jewelery. Oblivion had sapphires as loot to be sold, while Skyrim's sapphires could be combined with Gold or Silver to craft your own jewelry. In Elder Scrolls Online, they are used to craft armor with the Divines trait, which increases the effects of Mundus Stones on the wearer.

Sardonyx[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft armor with the Reinforced trait, for added protection.

Silver[edit]

Silver is used to craft everything from armor and weapons to jewelry. Items made from silver have been found in all of the games. In Daggerfall, it appeared as an alchemical ingredient. In Oblivion, Silver Nuggets could be found and sold for cash. In Skyrim, silver ore could be mined and smelted into ingots, which could then be used to craft jewelry. See also Argentum.

Stalhrim[edit]

Stalhrim is a hardened mineral with the appearance of ice, used by the ancient Nords of Solstheim to encase and preserve their dead. In the Bloodmoon expansion to Morrowind, Raw Stalhrim could be mined from these burials and used to craft Ice Armor and Weapons. It has not been seen in any other game, including Skyrim, which features similar burials to Bloodmoon, but no Stalhrim.

Starmetal[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, this is used to craft items in the Redguard Style.

Steel[edit]

Steel is an advanced form of Iron. It has been used in all of the games to make armor and weapons of quality just superior to that of Iron. Steel items are among the most commonly found in most of the games, sometimes more so than Iron. In Skyrim, you could smelt steel ingots from iron ore and corundum, and use them to forge such armor and weapons yourself. In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft low-level armor and weapons.

Sulphur[edit]

Sometimes spelled "Sulfur", it has appeared only in Daggerfall as an alchemical ingredient, though it is mentioned in some books seen in other games. It is a reddish vulcanic stone, known for its pungent odor.
† In real life, sulphur is generally yellow in color.

Tin[edit]

Tin is a light-weight, pale metal. It has only appeared in Daggerfall as an alchemical ingredient, and is not mentioned anywhere else.

Topaz[edit]

Topazes are yellowish gemstones of modest value. They are sometimes used to make jewelry. They are only seen as gems in Oblivion, useful as just loot to be exchanged for gold, though Topaz Dust makes an appearance in Shadowkey.

Turquoise[edit]

Turquoise is a bluish-green stone sometimes used in jewelry. It is seen in Daggerfall as an alchemical ingredient. In Elder Scrolls Online, it is used to craft weapons with the Defending trait, which increase the resistance of the wielder.

Voidstone[edit]

In Elder Scrolls Online, this ore is the source of Voidsteel, which is used to craft the highest level armor and weapons available.
