Nephele[edit]

With summer vacation ending and another school year beginning for me, I won't have as much free time to edit articles as I have had in the past. I feel we'll need another admin to help keep everything taken care of. Nephele has been an editor for two months, and has devoted a lot of her time to expanding the Oblivion sections, welcoming and helping newcomers in IRC and on the wiki, and making tedious contributions. --Aristeo 10:57, 31 July 2006 (EDT)

Thanks for the nomination, Aristeo. I have been slowly drifting towards taking on admin-type duties (keeping an eye out for people's requests for help, noticing when there's a dispute on a page and stepping in, etc.). It seems like the next logical step would be to officially become an admin, especially if it would help the wiki to have another one. So I accept the nomination. --Nephele 15:09, 31 July 2006 (EDT)

Questions[edit]

  1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping out with? --Aristeo 15:37, 31 July 2006 (EDT)
    • I'm anticipating primarily helping out with the admin duties needed to keep the site running smoothly: requests to delete pages, blocking vandals and reverting their vandalism, and any routine types of administrator requests made by people on this page. --Nephele 02:46, 1 August 2006 (EDT)
  2. How long should a candidate for deletion be tagged before being deleted ?--Aristeo 15:37, 31 July 2006 (EDT)
    • When pages with significant content are candidates for deletion, I think that at least a week should be allowed, to allow contributors who aren't checking the site every day sufficient time to respond. On the other hand, pages such as harmless redirects (next question), or pages created by mistake shouldn't need a waiting period; i.e., if there has only been one contributor to a page and that contributor is asking for deletion, speedier deletions should be possible.--Nephele 02:46, 1 August 2006 (EDT)
  3. What is your opinion on deleting harmless redirects made from page moves? --Aristeo 15:37, 31 July 2006 (EDT)
    • There are a couple questions that need to be checked. First, is the redirect useful? For example, if "Mehrunes Razor" is renamed "Mehrunes' Razor", the redirect should be kept because it's likely other people will look for this page under the original name. Second, any links to the redirected page should be fixed, so that they point to the new page. Once the page is orphaned, and in cases where the redirect is unlikely to be used, the redirect page should be ready for deletion.--Nephele 02:46, 1 August 2006 (EDT)
  4. Determining consensus is a very important process before making large edits. Unfortunatly, not all talk pages are watched by the community, so obtaining consensus sometimes can become rather difficult. How would/do you request for commentation if few people respond to your talk page comment? --Aristeo 15:37, 31 July 2006 (EDT)
    • Hopefully as people learn about the new {{peer review}} tag it will provide a means to let people know when there is a page that needs input. If there is a major contentious edit that affects content written by specific users, I would let those users know on their talk pages that their feedback would be appreciated. For more general questions that need wider input, I would support trying to have periodic IRC meetings where such questions can be discussed.--Nephele 02:46, 1 August 2006 (EDT)
  5. As you know, I am an administrator. I see myself as another editor of the community that has more buttons than most people. What do you think the role of administrator entails other than a couple extra tools? --Aristeo 21:17, 31 July 2006 (EDT)
    • I would also still see my primary role here as being an editor, and would continue to work collaboratively with everyone else who contributes to this site. As an administrator, my opinions on various issues should not carry more weight than any other editors. Being an administrator is more than just having a few extra tools; it also entails the responsibility to be sure to use those tools wisely and impartially. Administrator-level decisions should be based on the site's guidelines and policies, not on personal preferences. --Nephele 10:28, 1 August 2006 (EDT)

Votes and Comments[edit]

  • Support - Looks good to me. Good luck, Nephele. :) --Aristeo 15:44, 31 July 2006 (EDT)
  • Vote - Nephele has always been a great editor and contributor, she's done follow-ups for me on important items before I've even had a chance to check on their status. The first month I joined up I was truly suprised when I found out she wasn't already an admin, she's intuitive, insightful, and picks up after the most tedious edits. Strangely, I always want to call her Neph but regardless, she has my vote. Double good luck for ya. --AlbinoMudcrab 23:19, 3 August 2006 (EDT)
  • Done! - An easy choice especially since she has more edits than me! --DaveH 13:12, 13 August 2006 (EDT)
