Fanfiction[edit]

Hey, as you know, we've been reformating the fanfiction pages and moving them from the General namespace to Userspace. I was wondering if you could update the links on your User page for us. Specifically, the following link need to be changed:

General:The Guild's-Knight -> User:Somercy/The Guild's-Knight

Thanks.--Ratwar 14:25, 5 July 2008 (EDT)

Unfinished Quest - Mod 'update'[edit]

Hello,

I noticed in the Unfinished Quest section for Oblivion, that it mentions Nerastarel's house as being abandoned. There is a Mod called CDM-Necromancy which makes use of this to establish a small back-story associated with the house and introduces the owner. I noticed that where the Unofficial Oblivion Patch fixes an issue it was mentioned, but wasn't sure whether it was appropriate to edit something like this (which is more for player-experience, than bug-fixing).

The page I'm referring to is : http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Unfinished_Quests

Best Regards, Aensland 14:48, 24 July 2008 (EDT)

Hi! In general, no, we don't mention unofficial mods in the gamespace. The Tes4Mod namespace would be more appropriate for something like that. The UOP patch was a special case that was discussed and we, as a community, decided that it would benefit our readers due to the large number of documented bugs that the patch fixes. --GuildKnightTalk2me 18:16, 24 July 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, the difference here is that the UOP just fixes bugs, while the CDM-Necromancy mod (and most other 3rd-party mods) actually add content that was not the intent of the developers. We can't be held responsible for documenting the thousands of content-adding mods out there, so we generally don't discuss any of them no matter how good they are, just so we aren't endorsing any particular mods over any others. (We don't want to have mod-developers coming on the site asking why we didn't mention their mod when we did mention somebody else's, so the only fair thing to do is just not mention any of them.) Exceptions are made for the UOP and other Unofficial patches because they correct things which were clearly mistakes on the developer's part, rather than making any new content or changing any existing content. I understand there's a TES Mod Wiki somewhere, you might try looking at that if you're interested in discussions on mod content. You could also try the CS Wiki, which does some of that sort of thing as well, though I think they concentrate more on creating mods, rather than discussing them, but I don't know. --TheRealLurlock Talk 18:35, 24 July 2008 (EDT)
Thanks for the quick response. I thought it would be something like that, but wasn't sure. Regards, Aensland 03:18, 25 July 2008 (EDT)

[edit]

How did you make that banner with your name? and: Can I have/make one for me? -Goblin lair 13:55, 28 July 2008

Eshe made it for me, like the one on her page and Rpeh's page. --GuildKnightTalk2me 08:45, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
Actually I did my own, but the ones Eshe did are far prettier, much as I hate to admit it! –RpehTCE 08:50, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, I was just noticing the differences! ;) --GuildKnightTalk2me 08:52, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
Speaking of which, I noticed this image when going through the Unused Images list. I notice that you've replaced it with another that includes a few others in the same image clump. Can the original separate one be deleted now? Or do you have other plans for it? Just doing a little cleanup here. --TheRealLurlock Talk 09:37, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
Sure. I meant to prod it earlier... but why do now what you can out off till later, huh?  ;) Anyway, yeah, go ahead and delete it. --GuildKnightTalk2me 20:46, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

Request Mentor[edit]

Hi GuildKnight,

Just got my user name a few days ago. Been studying the help links a lot. Am wondering if I can set tabs on my "pages". When I make an entry and click preview the formatting goes loopy. I would imagine I need a template or something. Still getting used to some basic concepts here. Feel free to visit my "User" and "talk" pages.

FF Addon?[edit]

In Image:Questionable_Ad.jpg, I see you have a custom notification system. Care to share where you got it? ;) DaedryonTCE 00:26, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

Nope, it's not a Firefox addon. It's not a feed or anything, it's part of the Google Desktop sidebar you see on the right side of my screen. One of the "gadgets" available is the Gmail notifier which gives me a pop-up when I get an email, and adds the email to the sidebar. That was a notification of an email I'd received that a UESP page I'm watching was changed. --GuildKnightTalk2me 01:25, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

Question how to report possible Obliv bug[edit]

Greetings GuildKnight,
You are my mentor here at the wiki.
I have found a possible Oblivion bug. I'm being careful not to make a big
thing out of it. It could easily be a well known bug or a non harmful one.
Where is a good place to report these things?
Einri O'Neill 04:06, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

I'd be glad to help you. What's going on? --GuildKnightTalk2me 20:51, 15 August 2008 (EDT)

A bug question Obliv v1.2.0416 (and) Unofficial Oblivion Patch V3.0.1[edit]

Greetings,

Here is the bug info

Important
If you need tech info for my installation of Oblivion
and related software view my talk page under the heading
Oblivion Tech Notes - O'Neill

Brief description (for quick reference)
City temples with skeleton marks inside

Details...

About 10 days ago I installed the unofficial oblivion patch.
Since then I have found what I assume is a bug. When inside city temples
I see skeleton symbols floating around the top of each arch.
These bad boys have made a mockery of temples. The appearance of
the symbols or marks is so organized one might think they were part
of a storyline for some uncompleted quest. I do have the
smaller exclamations mod and the marks do appear small.
Just out of place. Apparently skeletons have a sense of humor :)

Einri O'Neill 00:24, 17 August 2008 (EDT)

Sorry, I don't know much about the PC version at all. I'm gonna paste your question over at Oblivion Mod talk:Unofficial Oblivion Patch. That's probably the place it's most likely to be seen by people who can help you. --GuildKnightTalk2me 00:38, 17 August 2008 (EDT)

Thanks GuildKnight. I appreciate it.

Just to let you know[edit]

Hello.
Just to let you know,...
I've placed another post over at TES4MOD
This one may be less of a mystery.

Questions[edit]

Okay, I downloaded Oblivion and all of the mods except Battlehorn Castle from "Direct2Drive". I also purchased Battlehorn Castle from ElderScrolls.com. I love it, but have a few questions/issues. Please, if anyone can help, answer here or find me in IRC.

  • I've purchased Battlehorn Castle, but when I try to download it, it gives the error: "The Secure Loader used to protect this software has encountered a fatal error. Please contact your software vendor." What does this mean?
  • How would I check to see if the game I purchased and downloaded was already patched? Because when I try to download any of the patches, I get the error: "Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match"
  • Do I need to download the Construction Set v1.0 first, or just download v1.2.404?

Thanks in advance. --GuildKnightTalk2me 18:36, 30 August 2008 (EDT)

I think we've got everything working for you now - just check the version number is 1.2.0416 or you'll hit the Reference Bug. –RpehTCE 03:03, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

Miscellaneous[edit]

Hi, GuildKnight, thanks for the greeting. I probably won't contribute much, but I've benefited greatly from reading articles on the wiki and thought I'd make a few minor corrections. -- Oban 02:51, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

Tankies[edit]

Hiya. Thanks, by the way, for the Geek Point ;) Just wanted to say that. --Atreus 21:16, 2 September 2008 (EDT)

Wrist iron duplication bug in Oblivion[edit]

question and answer moved to Oblivion talk:Clothing. --GuildKnightTalk2me 23:34, 20 September 2008 (EDT)

Thank You (not to be unoriginal)[edit]

Thank you for welcoming me to this site, I think this is a really awesome idea, to make a database based on a wiki format. I don't really know much about how to edit, and i don't really care either, but I am amazed at all the data you have on this site, its really incredible. And if you read this, could you tell me how to sign comments? Because I noticed you are a mentor. Thank you for the info. Can'treadtheElderScrolls 20:15, 19 September 2008 (EDT)

answered on poster's talk page. --GuildKnightTalk2me 23:34, 20 September 2008 (EDT)

Useful spells page[edit]

Since you answered so fast last time, I thought I would ask another question, do you know if there is a page about useful spells? I tried typing in talk:useful spells, and nothing came up. If not, can you give me tips on how to start one? Can'treadtheElderScrolls 20:18, 19 September 2008 (EDT)

Is this what you were looking for? --GuildKnightTalk2me 20:23, 19 September 2008 (EDT)

Uses[edit]

Can you give me a breif idea of what we do on this page, besides just editing? I noticed there are a couple of page redisign projects, and i wondered if you had a list of them or something, so that i could help out? Can'treadtheElderScrolls 17:16, 20 September 2008 (EDT)
