Problem[edit]

From everthing that I've tried, all of the ZeniMax owned servers are unreachable due to DNS lookup failures. Fails from both my home and office connection. Fails when I try to do a traceroute from a website that offers such stuff. Which indicates that the problem isn't local. On the other hand, I didn't see a mention on ES fan sites. Odd. I tried calling their DNS contact numbers but no luck -- no answer or phones are busy.

From whois searches, it seems that several zenimax sites are getting surprisingly close to their renewal dates (i.e. within a week -- usually not something you wait until the last minute to update). Still, they haven't expired yet, so that shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps their DNS server went down, or became unresponsive? Semi-noteworthy that all zenimax sites are served by nameservers that are also on the zenimax.com domain. So, if some system further up the route lost "zenimax.com", they wouldn't be able to contact "zenimax.com" to look up the ip address of "zenimax.com". (Seems kind of unwise, but I'm certainly not a DNS expert, and other sites (e.g. ford) does the same.)

My guess is that this will be fixed pretty quickly -- having all your sites go down is not good for business!

Note: It may be that other people are not seeing this. There's a certain lag time with DNS information. Also, it can be cached in various places on the network. --Wrye 01:06, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Update: TesNexus has a (very) small topic on it too. --Wrye 01:15, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, I've seen several mentions of it, but haven't heard anything about getting it fixed. The problem started before 4:30 EST, so it might be a bigger problem than we know.--Ratwar 01:19, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Fixed[edit]

It has been fixed now.--Mizzle 14:11, 5 June 2008 (GMT+2)

From a post by TS7 (network admin guy at Bethsoft),

"Storms knocked out power to large sections of our region at 3 PM EDT yesterday, power was restored to our area of Maryland one hour ago."

(Annoyingly, weather sites don't seem to give this sort of info.) --Wrye 15:37, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Longevity[edit]

IMO, This news article should not last long on the main page. More of a "special temporary notice". Few more days maybe. --Wrye 15:37, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Personally, I think it should be removed after the end of the day. It'll only spread irrelevant information.--Ratwar 15:45, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
Fine with me. --Wrye 16:52, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
