Morrowind Mod talk:Licensing

Here's where we chat/argue about what goes on the page... (And we may do a lot of that!)

Groundrules[edit]

  • Consensus views of background, and various positions should go on the article page. Arguments go here on the talk page. When we agree or at least agree on where we disagree, we'll move it to the article page.
  • Use the Bethesda EULA page for discussion on it.

LGPL, BSD etc.[edit]

One license I've not seen discussed is the use of the LGPL; it's stronger than the CC licenses, weaker than the the GPL, and seems to have reasonable acceptance in the free software community for things like icons and graphics (maybe). Unfortunately it has the restriction of being "made of legalese"; the attraction of things like CC-BY is that you can simply say "This is licensed under CC-BY, see (url); do what you want provided you give me credit". Otherwise, licenses like BSD are reasonably short, give Free use... dunno. Alphax 22:57, 2 April 2009 (EDT)

Mods are creative works, so software licenses don't work as well. Hmm... It's been a while since I looked, but I recall being dissatisfied in general -- there just wasn't an existing license that fit well. --Wrye 15:25, 4 April 2009 (EDT)
