Different Quest[edit]

In my game (Xbox 360), Trouble in Skyrim is a different quest than the one listed here. It reads:

TROUBLE IN SKYRIM
A group of Falmer has been causing trouble in Whiterun. I've been asked to clear out Shimmermist Cave.

OBJECTIVES
Kill the leader of Shimmermist Cave — Unsigned comment by 66.227.230.111 (talk) at 20:03 on 12 November 2011

Wrong quest?[edit]

I got this quest (PC version, using Steam) and it had me go to Shimmermist Cave to kill the leader of the Falmer there. And it is a really nasty, difficult quest for a low-level character. Falmer are strong, and the leader has a damned Dwemer Centurion. What gives? — Unsigned comment by 108.15.69.247 (talk) at 01:34 on 13 November 2011

EDIT: Got the same quest on Xbox 360. — Unsigned comment by 72.85.181.246 (talk) at 20:50 on 20 November 2011
EDIT: Got the same quest on PS3 — Unsigned comment by 75.40.48.81 (talk) at 22:01 on 20 November 2011

Rannveig's Fast[edit]

In my case, I had to kill the leader in Rannveig's Fast. Dynamic quest? — Unsigned comment by Cheat2win (talkcontribs) at 05:00 on 14 November 2011

Radiant Quest[edit]

Fairly certain that as this is a Radiant Quest [it's listed as such on the Companions page, as well as the fact that it keeps changing], it's liable to change from player to player. I, for instance, was told to take care of a nearby bandit camp, as I had neglected to clear it earlier.--MadMagicMuffinMan 08:24, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

I presume this is a dynamic quest. My quest had me go and vanquish the vampires in Broken Fang Cave. — Unsigned comment by 193.191.6.53 (talk) at 10:33 on 14 November 2011

Clear Redoran's Retreat. Also a bug?[edit]

It was pretty easy - only 3 bandits and bandit thug. Now it says return to Farkas, but quest become gray, like it's completed. Should it be? — Unsigned comment by 94.179.156.144 (talk) at 16:23 on 15 November 2011

I have this same bug. I think it occurs if talk first to Proventus Avenicci, who assigns you the same quest. — Unsigned comment by 187.126.83.56 (talk) at 23:03 on 25 November 2011
Happened to me because the Riften Steward had the same location (Ruins of Bthalft) programmed in for her next request as Farkas. "setstage" commands are doing nothing to fix the break. Looks like it's time to start over.

Kill leader of Halldir's Cairn , double staff loot bug[edit]

I had to [Kill leader of Halldir's Cairn] soutwest of Falkreath, it was some strong ghoust who summon additional 3 ghoust, apparently there is bug here I can take 2 of boss staffs, 1st from corpse and 2nd is dropped near, and ist quite worth staff. — Unsigned comment by 178.223.10.39 (talk) at 20:55 on 16 November 2011

I just played through the quest and discovered the same bug. It will be added to the quest page when it is written. --Krusty 21:00, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Looted 2, entered the Dungeon 48 hours later and found a third one in his corpse. — Unsigned comment by 85.180.122.222 (talk) at 19:14 on 23 November 2011

Volthem Keep[edit]

It actually had me go to Volthem Keep which I had already cleared. The bandit leader was dead on the ground and I could not complete — Unsigned comment by 68.185.195.135 (talk) at 23:42 on 16 November 2011

Yeah same here, but he wasn't even THERE! It's weird. --184.88.12.130 17:27, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
The PC console command resurrect fixed this for me. I just killed the chief again. Jja 15:08, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Clear Volunruud[edit]

I had to clear Volunruud cave for this quest. I also got a word of power (aura whisper) — Unsigned comment by 138.37.33.54 (talk) at 14:48 on 19 November 2011

Knifepoint Ridge[edit]

I had both "Trouble in Skyrim" and another Boethian quest at Knifepoint ridge. Quest arrow points me to an empty spot near the entrance, had to use console "setstage CR05 20" to complete this quest. — Unsigned comment by 175.156.222.83 (talk) at 14:17 on 21 November 2011

Brokenfang Cave[edit]

I have to go handle a den of vampires in Brokenfang Cave. Gideon Dragontongue 21:03, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

list of locations[edit]

we dont need one, its any dungeon that contains enemies and (most likely) isnt related to any major quests. (Eddie The Head 10:21, 13 December 2011 (UTC))

Major Glitch[edit]

The very first quest of the Companions is part of the radiant quest system. Now, I have already cleared out A LOT of dungeons, and like usual, I was sent to a dungeon I had previously cleared. However, the boss was unique and related to either the main quest or the college of winterhold. This means, unlike every single other draugr in the place, he remained dead upon my arrival. So, now I just sit over this unique boss and lament my poor fortune of having slain him. This is very upsetting, as I want to become a werewolf :(

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of conjuring him back with a raise dead spell then slaying him again, but that will take some training, and may not even work. — Unsigned comment by 24.76.93.238 (talk) at 11:49 on 18 December 2011

I've got the same problem, only his body isn't even there, it's just pointing to a spot in the air a little above a trap door grate, and nothing I do will work. and I'm on the 360, and I have no saves from before I got the quest, so I think I'm fucked and this pisses me off — Unsigned comment by 87.177.9.246 (talk) at 21:36 on 16 January 2012‎ (UTC)
Edit:
I'm also stuck in Halldir's Cairn with the arrow floating above the trap door. I killed the bad guy there earlier, and now I can't do anything to get the big baddie to come back. :/
Am I just stuck, or is there a fix?! I'm playing on PS3.

Hob's Fall Cave[edit]

I had to go fight necromancers at Hob's Fall Cave, I'd add it in but I'm not sure how. — Unsigned comment by 86.172.88.39 (talk) at 15:56 on 30 December 2011‎ (UTC)

Orphan Rock[edit]

Just added Orphan Rock, as I was sent to it to clear out the Hagraven. I noticed on the location's page it says the Witches and Hagraven don't spawn until you've been assigned to get Nettlebane for the quest The Blessings of Nature. I had gotten that quest a while ago and never advanced it. I was able to retrieve Nettlebane and complete the objective for Farkas concurrently. It's likely that Orphan Rock will only be assigned as a possible objective if you have The Blessings of Nature at stage 20 (or further if the Hagraven ever respawns when the quest is complete). "A group of hagravens has been causing trouble in Glenmoril Coven...."[edit]

So, um, yeah. I got the Trouble in Skyrim quest from Farkas just before doing Blood's Honor, but I didn't actually grab the quest at the time. Now Farkas won't give me any missions at all... I play on the 360, by the way. (also a way to fix this would be much appreciated) — Unsigned comment by 86.186.190.3 (talk) at 20:39 on 29 January 2012

On PC I too got the quest from Farkas, but after i am already harbinger... killed all the hagravens in cove- also at quest marker pointer, but no completion whatsoever... stuck in the quest. Is there a way to look what quest I have to advance through console command? — Unsigned comment by 88.196.169.84 (talk) at 19:14 on 14 April 2021

Glitch solution leads to another bug[edit]

This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered.

A number of people have reported that this quest sometimes requires the player to kill someone who is already dead, making the Companion questline impossible to finish. In the bug section, a solution is presented to wait 30 days for the cell to clear, and it asks for verification. I have tried the solution and can confirm that it works. However, after completing the quest, Farkas does not offer any more work, and when I ask the other Companions for work, they tell me that I am already doing a job for Farkas and cannot give me one. — Unsigned comment by 68.195.127.4 (talk) on 6 April 2012

I just had a similar problem. I had to kill the leader of silent moons camp, who I had just killed about a day ago. I traveled back to silent moons camp and he had respawned, along with two other bandits. But after I killed him it moved the quest to the completed section and gave me a quest marker to speak to Farkas. The quest marker leads to Jorrvasker's front door and then to nowhere. Farkas had nothing to say to me about completing the quest. I tried to take another job from Farkas and I could. But I still had the useless quest marker. I typed "setstage cr05 200" into the console and that fixed it. I got my cash and it removed the erroneous map marker. This may fix similar problems with this quest for PC users. Xbox 360 or PS3 players might want to save before taking companion's quests. I'd say maybe try wabbajacking Farkas to reset him but I think he's essential. Zyrkahn 15:20, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
I tried to wait 30 days (waited 32) and it did not work on PC. Instead I used the console completequest CR05, since the next stage in the quest is completion of that quest. What I do not understand is why the page says to set it forth 1 stage in advance of the main quest. — Unsigned comment by 173.28.179.103 (talk) at 02:42 on 4 June 2012
The main was in reference to the main companions questline. I specified that and removed dupicated info, hopefully making it easier to read as well. The Silencer has spokenTalk 01:58, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Nilhelm Bug[edit]

While, yes waiting for 30 days for the area to reset does work, I got the option to clear out Nilhelm, well since I did Telrav's Request, the area is broken for me and will not respawn. Just a heed of warning, if you're required to clear out an area but have already done so, drop the conversation and find another Companion to get a quest from.50.15.108.188 21:39, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

There Is No Leader[edit]

I was assigned to clear bandits out of the wreck of the Winter War, a bog-standard little camp with no particular quests tied to it. I killed the bandits easily enough, but the quest doesn't complete until you kill the leader, and there was no "leader" of this particular bandit clan. The quest marker literally pointed at an empty bedroll.--Shahrazad the Listener (talk) 17:40, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Wake Up Boss[edit]

This was the first quest given to me after joining, so I didn't really have a chance to turn it down. Farkas pointed me to Arkgnthamz, which I had already cleared out during "Lost to the Ages". It was fully repopulated, with plenty of Falmer to kill, and a quest marker pointing at a Dwarven Centurion...

...the Dwarven Centurion sitting under the final five tonal locks...

...the Dwarven Centurion that only activates if you hit the five tonal locks wrong repeatedly...

...the Dwarven Centurion that couldn't be activated because I had already hit the tonal locks correctly and couldn't un-hit them...

To make a long story short, I had to use setstage 20 to pretend I'd already killed it, because the quest marker might as well have been directing me to kill a piece of furniture.--Shahrazad the Listener (talk) 03:07, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
