bug found[edit]

Sometimes players' own items are taken by Delvin as if its the question items that were mean to be stolen. In my case i lost the enchanted Gold Diamond Necklace that i made for myself earlier upon reporting back to Delvin. The quests item Ghorza Grn-Bagol's Gold Diamond Necklace remain in inventory. — Unsigned comment by 124.168.95.118 (talk) at 08:59 on 30 November 2011

I can confirm this, when I cancelled the quest to steal a gold diamond necklace from captain aldis (it was equipped and I have no pickpocket perks so 0% chance), but even though I had cancelled the quest the cheeky beggar stole my necklace! Perhaps this bug is only related to gold diamon necklaces though? 87.194.26.132 22:01, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
I have had him take Rubies and Diamonds recently, as well as a possibly enchanted Silver Ring. 70.67.153.115 02:04, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
I also noticed this, with different items if you have a similar item he may take that instead. Probably just checks inventory for the item and takes the top one.--Lord.Baal 02:09, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Be careful if you use the setstage command for completing a bugged quest for him. i did it, saved (no other hard save in over 5 hours), and he doesnt offer jobs anymore at all after this. I'd be very grateful if someone could find me a fix for this. — Unsigned comment by 178.201.63.199 (talk) at 17:55 on 9 December 2011
I read that a random gemstone will be taken out of your inventory as a penalty if you cancel a job; that may explain the lost gemstones. The "takes the wrong item" thing is a definite bug. 74.181.90.193 05:53, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

() I can also confirm this, but this was a clash with a shill job given by Vex... I haven't completed the shill job yet, which involved a ruby, but had completed the fishing job which also involved a ruby. I went back to Delvin and some time after, noticed that he has taken the ruby I was supposed to use for compromising Vex's target! — Unsigned comment by 90.63.32.210 (talk) at 09:25 on 26 February 2012‎

Not sure if this is related, but I've had Adonato Leottelli's Emerald in my inventory for some time now. It can be removed from my inventory and is no longer a quest item. I have never used the console in relation to a Thieves Guild quest. It would be cool to figure out if this is recreatable; it's cool to have "unique" loot on your shelf rather than generic gems. Nottaj (talk) 02:58, 14 September 2012 (GMT)
Just tested it with a Flawless Sapphire. Delvin may indeed take the wrong item if you already have one of what he's asking for. I'll play around with this some more. Nottaj (talk) 03:38, 14 September 2012 (GMT)

0% chance to pickpocket[edit]

There is a chance that the target object of the quest will be marked as "0% chance" when you go to pickpocket the mark, regardless of potions, enchanted gear, perks and skill levels. This seems to be a known bug. After much testing and swearing, I finally found a way to work around the problem:

  • open the console
  • click the victim to select them
  • type showinventory (to find the ID of the quest target)
  • type drop <ID number of the quest object> 1
  • steal the quest target after it falls to the ground

It's now been added to the page in the Bugs section. ABCface 13:55, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Possible Solution for XBOX - On the fishing job to steal Mulush gro-Shugurz's Ruby from Mulush gro-Shugurz, I received a 0% chance of pickpocketing. Thinking I did not have a high enough skill (24 at the time) I put one perk into Light Fingers. Then I retried pickpocketing and the % jumped to 23%. — Unsigned comment by Dpflederer (talkcontribs) on 4 May 2012
Possible explanation for this - I was given this quest for the same target twice in a row (the owner of Whiterun stables, forgot his name). The first time was no problem, but the second time it was pretty much impossible to pick his pocket without getting caught. I think if you're given a target whose pocket you've recently picked (not sure how recent - could be up to 10 days maybe), it's impossible to pick that same person's pocket again for a while. Possibly waiting for a while may fix it. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 18:22, 14 March 2013 (GMT)

Hilarious radiant target[edit]

I finished the Companion questline and recruited one of the companions as my follower. Now before you throw me a irrelevant and remove my comment, one of the (Whiterun) fishing jobs is to steal from my follower at Whiterun :D. Of course she wasn't at Whiterun (just next to me!) and a quick exchange inventory finished the job without stealing involved :P 71.132.198.190 06:22, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Btw no table of content? 71.132.198.190 06:22, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

The article already states that nearly any NPC can be a target, and includes notable exceptions. While some radiant quests specifically omit followers from the possible radiant options, this is not one of them. So it seems like you lucked out to get an easy task. On a somewhat-related note, during the Hired Muscle quest for the Companions, it's possible to be told to beat up your spouse. Also, the table of contents is listed at the top left of the page, like on most quest pages. ABCface 06:42, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
I just spent ten minutes reloading an autosave behind Ria, wondering why I couldn't steal her diamond. I forgot there was a percentage thing. Eventually I realized that I owned these bitches and just took it from them as a follower. Easy. Also, I feel like an idiot.-Zydrate[][] 21:53, 19 February 2013 (GMT)

Have several radiant quests active at the same time?[edit]

Is it possible to talk to Delvin to get a pickpocket job, then talk to him again to get some other job before pickpocketing is complete? That would be nice because Rifton is far away from most other towns and it's very annoying to walk from one place to another many times for every single radiant quest. If I could have more of them active at once, I would get a load of them at Rifton, then walk the world to do those thefts/burglaries/whatever and after completing all of them I could go back to get all the rewards, as well as letting them assign new quests to me. So, can it be done or do I have to complete one of Delvin's radiant quests in order to be able to get another one? --Nv4dispbluescreen 09:36, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

It is not possible to have 2 or more radiant quests given by Delvin. You can only have 1 of his radiant quests active at any one time. The same thing applies to Vex. However, what you can do is to have 1 active radiant quest given by Delvin and another one given by Vex simultaneously. I believe this info was written somewhere in the quest pages which you overlooked. So to answer your question, yes you have to complete one of Delvin's radiant quests in order to be able to get another one from him. You also mentioned about towns being far away from one another. How about you use the carriage service and explore each of the 9 holds, so that you will be able to fast travel to wherever the radiant quests send you. Hope I helped. :) --Psylocke 10:21, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, that's unfortunate, I'd really love to have all of Delvin's quests active at the same time... the "pickpocket" quest is the most interesting because you'll never know who the target person will be and what item he is going to have, but the other quests sound interesting too, and currently I'm stuck having to steal a golden diamond necklace of Lars Battle-Born in Whiterun but the chance of success is always 0%! Argh! Thanks for the help though. --Nv4dispbluescreen 10:17, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

How to remove the stolen items?[edit]

During this quest, I've encountered a problem that I couldn't solve myself yet. After having sold Fralia's ruby to Delvin, the ruby was still in my inventory and it is still marked as a quest item. For whatever reason, even the console command removeitem does not work as the game tells me that the ID was incorrect. Entering a house seems even to change the ID so I have no idea how to get the right one. I'd be very grateful if anyone had another idea how to solve this. — Unsigned comment by 91.50.100.168 (talk) at 09:06 on 7 May 2013

Raven Rock?![edit]

I just got a target for this job in Raven Rock. How ... odd. There is no Raven Rock reputation quest so far as I know; does anyone know whether this target will count towards advancement towards any reputation quests? --Morrolan (talk) 13:54, 23 August 2013 (GMT)

No, it doesn't count towards advancement for reputation quests. Solstheim has the LocTypeHold keyword in game data, and while it isn't actually a hold in terms of lore, that's how the game data sets conditions and whatnot for quests, etc. So you still get the standard reward for doing the quest, but it doesn't do anything for reputation towards any reputation quests in a hold. — ABCface 18:15, 23 August 2013 (GMT)
It does presumably count towards one of the 125 quests required to get the safe, though. Oh well, it just threw me slightly when it came up. --Morrolan (talk) 21:38, 23 August 2013 (GMT)

Required Perks[edit]

I'm trying to complete the quest line, I'm high level, but I don't play a thief. Can I complete the quest line without perks in pick pocketing? Particularly do you need perks in pick pockets to complete these quests? 24.114.95.187 14:31, 2 October 2013 (GMT)

You should be able to complete any of the quests without specific perks. If you have doubts about successfully pickpocketing or stealing, simply save your game before you attempt it, and if you fail, you can reload and try again. — ABCface 17:06, 2 October 2013 (GMT)
You don't need to do this particular job to complete the thieves guild questline. You have to complete the four reputation quests, which are triggered when you've done a number (IIRC it's five) of jobs in each of the cities. However, you can do the same job five times in a row in Solitude to get the Dainty Sload reputation quest, for example, and if you're good at the pick locks minigame you should be able to complete all of the lockpicking-required jobs without any perks. --Morrolan (talk) 17:28, 2 October 2013 (GMT)

bug sort of[edit]

It might have been caused by a mod. I got a fishing job to collect an item from Braith in Whiterun. I snuck up on the girl to steal it. There was no interaction option. Used a mind control mod to make her a follower then trade me the item. Then I used the release spell to reverse it. If I had not had that mod, not sure how I would have been able to obtain the item. I think maybe the ability to kill children allowed her to have an item that could not be pickpocketed. not sure. — Unsigned comment by 71.13.110.202 (talk) at 08:35 on 13 December 2013

As children are generally unpickpocketable, they don't become targets for the fishing job. So it's very likely that it was caused by another mod you have installed, and is therefore not noteworthy here. But still can go to delvin and quit that job to gain another target. -- SarthesArai Talk 13:03, 13 December 2013 (GMT)
