Hidden Chest[edit]

just a note in case anyone misses it whenever a map of this area will be made, in the "redwater spring" area, there is a chest that is only accessible using whirlwind sprint in the first room to have a cage, and a dead nord on a long table. — Unsigned comment by Halla man3 (talkcontribs) at 20:27 on 20 July 2012

Thanks. I'm sure someone will find this helpful when writing the page. The Silencer speaksTalk 19:38, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
You can actually get to the chest using parkour As I have no shouts and just did. You have to jump up the collapsed wall then onto the piece of wood sticking out then onto the platform. — Unsigned comment by 70.95.195.223 (talk) at 07:45 on 15 December 2017

Bloodspring Contagion[edit]

I drank from the Bloodspring while not a vampire and contracted two diseases: Rattles and Sanguinaris Vampiris. Don't know whether the diseases are always the same or if it's two random diseases, but it's worth noting either way. Wordmama 01:08, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

I kept on activating the Bloodspring and contracted every disease available. — Unsigned comment by 85.96.84.198 (talk) at 11:44 on 27 August 2012

Visiting as a Member of the Dawnguard[edit]

You can go here as a member of the Dawnguard, get invited in, get free Redwater Skooma (and buy the rest from the attendant). If you unlock the back door, everyone becomes hostile (including the other addicts in the den). If you drink, you'll pass out and end up in a cage as well. Proceeding to the Bloodspring will let you kill all the vampires - but if you try to drink from the spring without the chalice, you'll get a random disease, plus sanguinare vampiris. Drinking repeatedly gives you every in-game disease. A quick cure potion will get rid of them all for you. Heading back up, the lookout and the guard are now Vampire Thralls, and are non-hostile. — Unsigned comment by 151.151.109.18 (talk) at 18:14 on 23 August 2012

As a member of Dawnguard (Quest line finished), as well as a vampire, drinking from the spring get the effect of "Tainted Blood of the Ancients" as normal. Plus, when returned to the skooma dealer, it is strange enough that all those NPCs enjoying skooma are not converted but dead.Penuser (talk) 08:25, 8 August 2013 (GMT)

Pre-Dawnguard[edit]

It might be worth noting that when exploring the Redwater Spring before starting any Dawnguard quests, Venarus Vulpin is replaced with a generic Master Vampire. - 50.92.103.208 15:04, 14 October 2012 (GMT)

Looking at the game data, it appears that this is one of many instances in which the game renames the boss in a location during a particular quest. I can't find the specific information on the boss of this location, but I'm guessing that it's not always a "master vampire" like you had, but rather a generic boss-level vampire in general. In any case, I'll go ahead and update the article to reflect this. — ABCface 17:28, 14 October 2012 (GMT)
Okay, got some help from Alfwyn and found that it can indeed be something other than a "Master Vampire", so my guess was right on that part. Here's the information on that boss vampire, just for future reference. — ABCface 18:24, 14 October 2012 (GMT)
Found this by accident, quite curious: with Dawnguard installed but having not started a quest other than the initial "Join the Dawnguard" one that you get from passing guards, I met Venarus as the boss, and killed him. After that, I read his journal mentioning the chalice, drank from the fountain, contracted the vampiric disease and did a Save&Exit. Upon reloading, I came back to his room again to see if I missed anything. His body was now named "Master Vampire". The attendant and lookouts outside were now called "Vampire Thrall" (except the Dealer) but were still friendly.--201.10.32.238 23:47, 29 October 2012 (GMT)
The article currently reads "A second zone, Redwater Spring, contains more vampires, thralls, and death hounds. It eventually leads to a large chamber where you'll encounter the boss vampire, Venarus Vulpin (or a generic boss-leveled vampire if you haven't started the related quest), and his minions." This is inaccurate: I just started down the Dawnguard path of the Dawnguard plug-in (A New Order), and was accosted by Vulpin himself. --Somercy (talk) 23:51, 8 September 2013 (GMT)

() ABCFace the data you provided on the Vampire lists his race as a Fox. Why is that? 82.132.219.122 19:30, 7 December 2013 (GMT)

The data points to an actor who takes some of his attributes, for instance his gender, race, face data, level, class, etc., from a leveled actor. The fox race is used as placeholders on these (as well as the dremora class). -- SarthesArai Talk 19:35, 7 December 2013 (GMT)

Fork and Knife[edit]

(PS3 user) Since these can be hard to find, I wanted to mention that both of them can be found here. MrC (talk) 15:04, 25 March 2013 (GMT)

Falling Into Non-game Space[edit]

(Platform: XBox 360) Sorry to necro discussion. Reporting glitch I don't see mentioned. When entering Den, I found the stairs fully rendered and solid. Floor and walls beyond were not. Stepping off stairs onto leaf-only path, I fell into out-of-game space (like accessing merchant chest glitches). Follower disappeared. Couldn't interact with the space, just kept falling until I landed at top of stairs. Tried again, result always the same. Exiting Den, then returning, solved my problem. Interior fully formed and solid, follower restored. Saving at top of stairs and reloading save would likely work, too. FairEmma (talk) 18:39, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

It's not a necro if you're starting a new topic, only if you're resurrecting an old one with no new information or answering a fairly specific question that the OP likely won't see or have use for. :) Robin Hood  (talk) 02:24, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

Venarus Vulpin when NOT on the Volkihar Vampire side of Dawnguard?[edit]

As of the most recent official patch for Skyrim Special Edition, there has been at least one occasion where Venarus Vulpin showed up for a player that had sided with the Dawnguard and completed the Dawnguard quest line: a thing which the main text implies is impossible, on the grounds that the related quest (which requires siding with Clan Volkihar) is impossible to start. Also, the surviving humans (the doorman and lookout) all became non-hostile Vampire's Thralls as I was on the way out, although appeared to be ordinary humans on the way in.

So, what are the circumstances that determine whether you encounter Venarus, or a generic vampire boss? Since I encountered Venarus after siding with the Dawnguard, it appears that choosing the Dawnguard side puts him in the dungeon. You obviously need to be able to encounter him if you're a Volkihar Vampire because you get sent on a quest to his den. I would guess the appearance of a generic vampire boss is for if you encounter and clear the place before choosing sides in Dawnguard - or possibly, after you become a vampire but before you get given the quest: i.e. that Venarus is placed there either when you get the relevant quest as a vampire, or when you join the Dawnguard. Anyone able to confirm either way? JLE (talk) 22:56, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

That matches my experience. Completed the DG main quest for the DG and went to the Den, where most of the hostiles were vampire thralls, except Venarus and a handful of leveled vampires. I'll make sure the article reflects this. --Xyzzy Talk 02:10, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
