Confusing Note[edit]

Are you saying enchanted elemental weapons can be resisted by resist poison? are you sure about this? Dawn (talk) 03:26, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

No, not at all. Only weapons which you have applied poison to. But you can make a poison which does fire damage and apply it to your weapon, and this will be affected by poison resist, even though it's fire damage. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:34, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
Actually wait a minute - elemental damage poisons don't exist in Skyrim... I was getting it mixed up with Oblivion. I'll get rid of that. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:36, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

Enchanting question[edit]

Having "Armor" and an ID listed in the effect summary kinda implies that this effect can be used to enchant a piece of armor. Is this true, and what would you disenchant to acquire this effect? --Xyzzy Talk 14:24, 22 September 2013 (GMT)

The Skyrim:Ebony Mail causes poison damage. I believe it is the only one. It's a Daedric artifact and cannot be disenchanted. --Morrolan (talk) 15:56, 22 September 2013 (GMT)
Miirak's Robes also produce it. --AN|L (talk) 16:33, 22 September 2013 (GMT)
Hmm... having those parameters doesn't really imply that. Maybe there should simply be a sentence that says that the enchantment is available in certain equipment, but they cannot be disenchanted, like in Skyrim:Sun Damage. Both articles have the id and item parameters. However, the sun damage article states that the effect cannot be learnt as none of the weapons can be disenchanted. ~ Psylocke 16:59, 22 September 2013 (GMT)
IMO, it DOES imply that this effect can be used to enchant items. Clicking on the "Enchanting" header in the summary take you to Skyrim:Enchanting_Effects, where the lead sentence states "This page documents the Magical Effects that can be used for Enchanting items." Seems like a pretty strong implication to me. --Xyzzy Talk 17:38, 22 September 2013 (GMT)
Well then, something must be done with articles such as Sun Damage, Articulation, Conjure, Command, Reanimate, Light, Fortify Spells, Fortify Shouts (and I may have missed out a few others), as all these enchantments link to that page, but can never be learnt. Either that, or the enchanting effects introductory sentence be tweaked. ~ Psylocke 00:59, 23 September 2013 (GMT)
I think you are just misunderstanding the way the infobox template is set up, Xyzzy. See this page, for example. The effect summary infobox has separate headers for Alchemy, Enchanting, and Availability. The article itself then has a separate section explaining how enchanting works in terms of items use the effect which can and cannot be disenchanted. Because Poison Damage has no relevant Alchemy information, it's not on the template, but the Availability header/parameters of the infobox is its own separate part, not part of the Enchanting header/parameters listed above it. The change that should be made, IMO, is to change the generalized link label "Armor" to the unique item which uses the effect (same goes for the spell). This goes against other effect pages which use generalized links and labels, but for those effects which are only available from one specific item/spell, I think it would be better to go this route. — ABCface 01:21, 23 September 2013 (GMT)

() My only concerns are the use of the word "Enchanting" in the infobox, and the way this links to Skyrim:Enchanting_Effects. If an effect can't be used to enchant an item, then I don't think it should link to a page with this lead statement. I realize that these effects that cannot used for enchanting are the exception to the rule, but it is an inconsistency that I feel should be addressed. Using the word "Enchanting", a verb, in the infobox implies that this effect can be used while enchanting. Maybe if it was changed to "Enchantment", a noun, and the lead sentence on the Enchanting Effects page were tweaked, it would be more accurate. --Xyzzy Talk 02:47, 23 September 2013 (GMT)

I would agree with the change from "Enchanting" to "Enchantment", though I'm not sure the lead sentence on the linked effect page needs to be changed. A note could be added after the lead sentence which states that those effects which cannot be added to items by the player are not listed on that page, which might be useful and help out those who follow that link on effect pages such as this one and get confused. — ABCface 03:00, 23 September 2013 (GMT)
I've gone ahead and changed the generalized link labels on this page to the specific unique names, since this is not only less confusing, but already done on other effect pages anyway, such as Skyrim:Fortify Block. I've also added a notice to Template_talk:Effect Summary that I'll make the minor change in the header, from "Enchanting" to "Enchantment", in one week if no one has an issue with that. As for the change to the Enchanting Effects page, I'll wait on more input for that. — ABCface 14:56, 24 September 2013 (GMT)
