valid target for Ebony Blade?[edit]

Is Ondolemar a valid target to charge the Ebony Blade after you do his quest? After the quest he was saying something like "there are few pleasures in life higher then having your company"... I managed to kill him with 2 hits from stealth with the blade, undetected after the first, but after the first he was saying something like "you are the one that hurt me before" After the second hit which killed him there were no changes in the blade's stats. Should that kill enchance the blade? Did I done something wrong, maybe the 2 hits with pasue between? What needs to be shown on the blade to know it worked? Thanks 188.24.14.70 09:30, 29 January 2012 (UTC) Luke

What blade are you talking about?RIM 10:33, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, is about Ebony Blade — Unsigned comment by 188.24.14.70 (talk) at 14:39 on 29 January 2012
Oh, I know what you mean. I think only followers and spouses count, other people who you have helped generally don't. RIM 16:34, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
Are you sure about that? Is the first time I hear it. The notes on Ebony Blade says that "followers make good targets because..." which for me imply others are targets too but harder to kill unnoticed (was hard with Ondolemar too). Also on official forum I couldn't solve my question but the answers suggested it should work. LukeH 10:33, 30 January 2012 (UTC) Luke (also created wiki account)
In my case I killed Faendal and nothing happened but after killing my wife the blade got upgraded and Mephala starting speaking again. Maybe it is only certain people and followers? Or maybe it was a glitch, which doesn't seem too unlikely. RIM 16:44, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
The Ebony Blade is charged a bit more after every OTHER kill. Kill Ondolemar after completing his quest should count. --Theothersteve7 23:44, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Are his companies always the opposite gender against player[edit]

When I play as a female, his companies are two males, and females otherwise. --FelixH 15:51, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Pretty sure they are Both female and I'm on a female dunmer. 24.216.244.20 16:56, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
From my experiences, I believe it is random. I have seen male and female while playing as either gender. Aurora1983 10:52, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Dead?[edit]

After using the waterfall to escape from the tower in the Hard Answers quest, I found his corpse lying in the street, with a guard standing over him. He wasn't wearing any robes, they were in his inventory but not equipped. Any idea why this might be? I had previously completed the civil war on the imperial side and have never been to Markarth before. 96.33.173.168 21:34, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure but I think I know why. If you go to a city and look very quickly you will notice that NPCs are spawned in place by dropping them from a very small height. On very rare occasions they will spawn in the way of another npc or object. If this happens they may spawn a little higher than normal which, in a city like Markarth, could mean death. Does he stay dead[edit]

Specifically, if you trade Markarth to the stormcloaks in Season Unending (rendering him dead since the Stormcloaks are in control), and then later join the Imperial Legion and recapture Markarth through military might, does he stay dead or does he come back to life? — Unsigned comment by 173.3.59.86 (talk) at 18:53 on 15 February 2012

Stays dead. This is the route I took, and I just found his coffin (which also includes Ogmund's Talos amulet if you did that quest, so it's clearly his). -- VSim 05:56, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Attacked by Ondolemar[edit]

I completed Ondolemar's quest Search and Seizure and then proceeded to complete two other radiant quests requiring me to kill bandits from around The Reach, which I did. Upon returning to Understone Keep, Ondolemar was immediately hostile and started attacking me, along with Faleen, Raerek and Ondolemar's two Thalmor soldiers. My bounty is only 40, and none of the Markarth City Guards even bother defending me nor attacking me. In fact, they run away. This seems like an odd bug (?) to me because I've never encountered anything like this. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? 72.23.241.65 05:26, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Do you have a blessing active from a shrine of Talos? I have found that when I have the Talos blessing, random Thalmor I encounter in the wilderness are instantly hostile to me before I talk to them or do anything. The fact that Faleen joined them is peculiar though.71.178.115.32 16:19, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
Ondolemar may also be hostile if you've attacked Thalmor agents in the wilderness. And yes, guards and other people (including the Jarl) may join the fight and attack you. Fortunately, Illusion spells that prevent enemies from attacking (such as Harmony) will make them non-hostile so you can talk to them, until the spell runs out. — Unsigned comment by 217.210.195.50 (talk) at 18:49 on 19 July 2012
Got attacked by his agents and later by him after leaving from Dwemer Ruins. I probably did attack some Thalmor guys in the wilderness once, thought they were bandits from bandit lair that was nearby (used bow). Somehow he was killed by my follower and not me, and no one joined the fight. Though it seems I got 5 bounty from the first agent attack.

Letter of Inheritance[edit]

Since I dislike Thalmor, and needed high elf blood, I killed him and his 2 guards. About 10mins later, a naked courier runs up and gives me a letter saying he left me 100 gold coins :P I wonder if that will happen if the Stormcloaks kill him. I gave him the talos amulet, but stole it back to save Ogmund. — Unsigned comment by 86.144.34.67 (talk) on 11 April 2012

Bounty for murder.[edit]

In a few of my games I decided to kill him (cos you know, he's a bit of a stuck-up, pompous arse) and his two soldiers. Whenever I've been caught however, I've only ever been given a 40 gold bounty for assault, not 1000 gold for murder, even though it was blatantly obvious that I'd just stabbed or shot him in the face. Anyone else had this? Tis rather amusing as it just seems like the guards don't really care but thought they better give you a little slap on the wrist even though they're secretly glad you've taken the smug git out. Is it obvious I don't like him? :P But yeah, anyone else had this weird thing with the bounty? AyaHawkeye (talk) 03:46, 9 November 2012 (GMT)

I've had this on numerous kills. I have a feeling it has something to do with who witnesses the kill, but that's just a guess. Robin Hoodtalk 02:55, 10 November 2012 (GMT)
It simply depends on who sees you kill him. I just ran through 6 trials on the Xbox 360 version, and got results ranging from no bounty simply because I shot him with arrow from complete concealment to the full 1,000 gold bounty, where I cut his arrogant, stuck up, pompous, and self aggrandizing throat right in front of the Jarl. Depending upon WHERE you attack him as he's wandering around makes a difference, too - get him in a corner and in poor light where the guards in front of the Jarl can't see as well, and you'll only get the assault bounty. Ondolemar & Galmar[edit]

The apparent basis for the claim of Ondolemar being killed by Galmar during the Stormcloak conquest of The Reach is that that's what happens in a mod called Civil War Overhaul, or CWO. Normally I would discount it entirely on that basis; after all, mods can do anything, if a mod author wanted to make Elisif kill Tullius after the Battle for Windhelm and declare herself High Queen of an independent Skyrim because she was annoyed about him mollycoddling her then that would be possible. However the author of CWO claims his mod is mainly composed of vanilla content found inside the game, scenes which were already there, which he's turned back on and tried to fix bugs with. The mod page is here; if anyone wants to download the mod and look at it in the CK, see if the claim that the Ondolemar & Galmar fighting scene is actually built into the game but normally disabled, that might be worthwhile. --Morrolan (talk) 12:50, 27 August 2013 (GMT)

There is indeed an unused scene amongst all the myriad abandoned Civil War functionalities where Galmar axes Ondolemar dead. Every jarl has a "get kicked out by the victors" scene, and an extra bit at the end for Markarth involves a "Not so fast" on Ondolemar (if you haven't killed Ondolemar yourself already). Additionally, Laila Lawgiver and Maven Blackbriar snip at each other with Rikke breaking it up. --MadCat221 (talk) 04:40, 30 August 2013 (GMT)
Correction: Every Major City jarl has one. The minor hold Jarls (Falkreath, Winterhold, Dawnstar, and Morthal) don't have them.
On an interesting note, Markath's and Riften's Jarl also have a "coming back" dialogue banter that apparently plays if the player loses the city. (IE if the player is Imperial gains Riften then loses it, you would have seen Lilla come back and chew Maven out,) Or if you were taking it back as a result of Season Unending. It's the same for both cities though:
Maven/Thongvor: "Welcome back. I've left a few surprises for you to discover."
Laila/Igmund: "How kind of you. And I've brought an army to give you a going away parade."
Galmar/Rikke: "If you two are finished with the touching homecoming, there's a city in chaos out there."
Laila/Igmund: "Indeed. Come, there is much to be done."
(Rylasasin (talk) 03:11, 14 September 2013 (GMT))
Yes, this scene is indeed present in Skyrim.esm. Located in quest CWAttackCity, under scenes. I vote that this is legitimate as it is cut content and not mod-added content. As for the scene itself, it's pretty short (but oh so satisfying)
Galmar: "Not so fast, Elf!"
Ondolemar: "I presume you're talking to me?"
Galmar: "On your knees!"
Ondolemar: "..."
Galmar: "I said On your knees, Elf!"
Ondolemar: "Enjoy this while you can. Soon you will all be slaves."
Galmar: "Raagh!" *Chop chop*
Galmar: "Someone get that thing out of here and burn it."
(Rylasasin (talk) 02:38, 14 September 2013 (GMT)) (Edit: ha ha... Maven. WTF?! Yeah I copied the table from the conversation between Maven and Lilla, on this very similiar topic I might add.)

Followers still there[edit]

So I traded Markarth for Riften during Season Unending, then conquered Fort Sungard to take back the Reach. I go to Understone keep and enter the war room where Legate Emmanuel Admand is, and sitting at the table are Ondolemar's two guards. Why are they still there? Shouldn't they have been killed along with Ondolemar when the Stormcloaks took over the city? Do they respawn? What's the deal? 71.171.112.31 04:48, 7 October 2014 (GMT)

He calls you a lowlife now.[edit]

It seems if you get him to do a distraction at the Thalmor Embassy it lowers his disposition toward's you. Where when you now approach him he would just say I have no need to talk to a low-life go away — Unsigned comment by PrinceRetro (talkcontribs) at 17:49 on 25 June 2018‎
