Where's The Magical Effect ID for Fortify Enchanting?[edit]

If I recall correctly, the ID is 00109632. I am not very good at web page editing, so I thought I'd add this. Anyone want to fix the page and add this to the effects? Tommy6860 00:46, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Clarification[edit]

So this effect raises one's Enchanting skill, meaning you'd want to consume the potion right before an enchanting/disenchanting session? The description sounds as though it makes your already-enchanted items act more powerfully for the duration of the potion, but this is not so, yes? 75.47.107.236 02:48, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

No, Fortify Restoration boosts already-enchanted items (it boosts things in the "active effects" section of your magic menu). F. Enchanting, like F. Smithing/Alchemy, just affects your ability to craft an item. After enchanting (or smithing/pot-brewing) the effect doesn't have any benefit. Though I think it might also up the gain from a soul gem when recharging a weapon? Not sure.--AlphamanT 01:56, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

My question is whether or not this effects the strength of the enchantment itself by <mag>% if you enchant while under the effects of the potion or if it just increases your enchanting skill for <mag> and then the <mag>% increase of the enchantment is just a derived increase from the skill level increase. If this is the case, i believe there are threshold levels as there are in smithing making this essentially useless unless you are near a threshold. — Unsigned comment by 24.70.35.220 (talk) at 23:29 on 4 January 2012

The enchantment boost from the potion is a percentage and it seems to correlated with the resulting enchantment. If you have a 25% potion you receive approx a 1.25x enchantment. There is some rounding down; there may also be an alternate formula that approximates this amount as in the case of smithing but its not a skill boost. 75.80.97.155 00:19, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
EDIT: I re-read your question and it seems be to a two-parter. As I explained there is rounding down meaning if you have a 25% pot and a 27% pot and the resulting enchantment is 12.37 vs. 12.92 both round down to 12 so you need to get over the hump to have any effect. 75.80.97.155 00:24, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
That is incorrect, the enchantment strength is not directly increased by the stated percentage; fortify enchanting does boost your enchanting skill. This can be verified by viewing your enchanting skill on the character menu while under the effects of Fortify Enchanting. As you suspected, the increase in the the enchantment's magnitude is a derived increase from the skill level increase. However, no, there are no enchanting thresholds. The increase in the magnitude of the actual enchantment is dependent upon these formulas (note especially the "skill multiplier"). Furthermore, it should be noted that the increase in enchanting skill level is a simple addition, it is not calculated as a percentage. ie say you have a base enchanting skill of 50, and a Fortify Enchanting effect that makes enchantments "20% stronger." This will not make your enchantments 20% stronger, and will not make your enchanting skill 20 percent higher - it will make your enchanting skill 20 points higher, resulting in an enchanting skill of 70.--24.186.193.115 19:36, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Per that page "The potions will increase your skill in the formula by their given percentage" so that last part of the last statement above is incorrect.(50*1.2=60) Philbert (talk) 02:16, 19 September 2013 (GMT)

Is this effect available as an enchantment?[edit]

Every other "fortify" skill is available as an enchantment (other than fortify persuasion, I think). Is this just the odd one out, or does anyone know of apparel that has this effect? I can see why the developers might not want to make fortify enchantment available as an enchantment - once you knew it, you could make an item that with the effect that, when equipped, would allow you to make a similar but more powerful item, and so on - you could just make a whole chain of fortify enchantment items, each one stronger than the last, until you could effectively get the maximum enchanting ability even at a low level. Which would be cool, but possibly a bit of a cheat.C12VT 15:34, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

That would make sense and as far as I have seen it isn't available. You might be able to use console commands to apply it though. RIM 16:17, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
As there is no "maximum enchanting ability," the presence of a Fortify Enchanting enchantment would yield unlimited enchanting values. This would eventually break the game (as abusing the Fortify Restoration potions has shown). This is the same reason there is no recipe for a Fortify Alchemy potion. Catalog of armor enchantments[edit]

There is a book called catalog of armor enchantments that mentions a pair of gauntlets to fortify enchanting skill. It's a cruel tease if they don't exist. 64.18.47.6 13:59, 13 March 2012 (UTC)John

At a glance, it looks like it's a cruel tease indeed. I don't see any gauntlets in the Creation Kit that appear to fortify your enchanting skill. It's possible I've missed something if it were included in a unique enchantments, but it seems you're probably right. Robin Hoodtalk 05:20, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
The Fortify Enchanting effect doesn't exist as an enchantment because if it did, it could be applied over and over again. This is the same reason there is no Fortify Alchemy potion. The bug with Fortify Restoration potions is an oversight. Kastagir 04:59, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Combining the ingredients[edit]

Do different combinations of the ingredients yield different results? (i.e blue butterfly wing + hargraven claw is better than snowberry + spriggan sap?) So far I am only able to make 28% potions when the cap is 32%. I tried to use enchanted fortify alchemy (22% ring, amulet, gloves/bracers and helm) to get this higher but was unable. I am lvl 100 in both alchemy and enchanting and have all the relevant perks. — Unsigned comment by 95.145.21.44 (talk) at 23:34 on 13 April 2012

First, sign your posts with 4 tildes. Second, the maximum fortify enchanting potion magnitude you can make with four articles of clothing providing fortify alchemy enchantments is 28%. To exceed that, you'll have to make use of the exploit that allows circlets and falmer helmets to be worn simultaneously. This allows for five articles of clothing to be worn at once, all of which can accommodate the fortify alchemy enchantment.Kastagir 17:17, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Just to elaborate, At Alchemy & Enchant skill level 100, all 5 Alchemist, Physician, Benefactor, all 5 Enchanter, Insightful Enchanter, and Corpus Enchanter which are the only perks that affect this, you can make a Alchemy set of all 25 (using all 5 slots) that will create a 34 strength enchant potion. Using that enchant potion (times 5 - one for each piece) you can make an Alchemy 5 piece set of 29 each that will make a enchant potion of 37 strength. If you try to use this potion to create another alchemy set, they will all still be at 29. Also, you have to use Grand Souls (Grand Soul Gems, Black Soul Gems, or The Black Star filled with a Grand Soul.) Hope that helps. P.S. not sure if Corpus Enchanter is needed but I always get it to get the dual enchant. Philbert 03:36, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
With Dragonborn DLC , using Ahzidal`s Genius effect as well as the Enchanting and Alchemy boosts from Seeker of Sorcery and Seeker of Shadows(The Sallow Regent Black Book) , you can ultimately craft Fortify Alchemy and Fortify Smithing gear at 35% per item and can create a Fortify Enchanting potion of 40%(w/4 items). No Restoration exploit needed.- Adam Warlock (Xbox) — Unsigned comment by 98.157.24.218 (talk) at 23:47 on 17 May 2013
The maximum without exploit is in fact 29%, but 29% still gets you only 32% enchanting potions. So it's only useful to stop at 28%, unless you do what Adam Warlock above said. 69.196.128.119 17:57, 25 January 2014 (GMT)

Length of Effect[edit]

My apologies ahead of time for not making a new section for this question, but the option was not on the talk page. How does the length of the effect work? Crafting is done in 'real time' instead of frozen time like bartering, which already makes things frustrating, but does the boost last until you exit the enchanter regardless of the 30 second limit? The game showed my level as being heightened well after 30 seconds, but I was unsure of whether it was just the game's failure to be able to refresh the Enchanting level bar or what.--75.249.62.104 00:22, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

I can't answer your question, but I went ahead and made this a new section for ya, at least. If there's not a [Add New Section] link at the bottom of the page, there's also a tab on the top of the talk page with a "+" sign which allows you to add a new section as well. Prior to the latest patch (1.5) I found that if you drink the potion you had exactly 30 seconds to select the item, select the enchantment, select the soul gem, and rename the item. After renaming the item you could pause and take a breath before actually enchanting. However, I just did a series of tests pausing at each step well over a counted 30 seconds and found it does freeze to the current potion strength as long as you stay in the enchant selection menu for that item. In the background, the counter is ticking so once you accept the item, if you exceeded the 30 second limit, your enchant skill level will drop back to the lower pre-potion level. You can see this on the Enchant Skill Bar at the lower right when you are in the Enchanter menu. Philbert 03:09, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
It seems to count off 30 seconds quite rigidly - I was just working on a 1-point fire damage weapon, and saw the projected number of charges drop after I ate up too much time renaming the item. 76.185.41.201 19:50, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Ahzidal's Genius[edit]

Does the Ahzidal's Genius on Ahzidal's Boots of Waterwalking restore the player's Enchanting skill, or add to it? Basically, can the player use it to get their enchanting skill over 100? 98.165.191.39 10:38, 13 February 2013 (GMT)

They are a fortifier "Increases your Enchanting skill by 10 points." Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 14:31, 13 February 2013 (GMT)
You have to be wearing all four pieces of Ahzidal's armor to get this effect. I believe the effect also disappears if you wear all four pieces of armor plus his ring. Just wear the armor; leave the ring off. 174.6.51.17 06:40, 14 March 2013 (GMT)
Oh cheers for that - I was wearing one of the rings as well as the armour, and couldn't get it to work; it definitely doesn't like that! 58.6.255.223 10:23, 27 March 2013 (GMT)
You can wear a ring and not wear a piece of the armor and still gain the effect. So in short the boots and 3 other pieces are required, but wearing the boots with all 4 pieces will remove the effect. — Unsigned comment by 24.205.209.132 (talk) at 08:40 on 2 August 2014‎

Ahzidal's Genius & Seeker of Sorcery in Notes[edit]

Hi, I added both of those Effects to a new notes section. Ahzidal's Genius provides the Fortify Enchanting skill. It therefore seems reasonable to mention it here. The other Effect doesn't really provide Fortify Enchanting, but still increases Enchanting effects. Since this is my first edit on this wiki, I'll rely on you guys to decide whether the notes belong here. I personally tested both effects on my Skyrim PC Version 1.9.32.0 (current Version as of 19.8.2013). 84.189.156.194 11:55, 19 August 2013 (GMT)

Unofficial skyrim patch[edit]

Since I applied most recent USP, I have noticed that my echanting skill is not increased but magnitude of enchantment is. Maybe this is worth mentioning? 76.65.241.17 02:36, 17 November 2014 (GMT)

Five enchanted alchemy pieces plus Ahzidal plus Seeker of Sorcery[edit]

I am using the Falmer helmet, Circlet, bracers, necklace, ring all enchanted with fortify alchemy+archery to make Fortify Enchanting potions that are now 41% improving enchantments. Edit: But, due to the rounding down in the calculation the resulting equipment is only enchanted to 35% improved or so--so that no further improvements are forthcoming beyond that 35%.198.91.176.251 10:22, 22 November 2019 (GMT)
