i was just watching e3 and i saw that when you defeat a dragon you and i quote "absorb their soul and gain new powers" i saw 2 types of dragons also a normal one (probobly has a name just dont know and a ice dragon) two breath powers was fire breath and i saw him call a thunderstorm wich causes lightning to strike your opponent. also a maker claimed dragons are not scripted! so say youre in a fight with giants and mammoth things (saw in e3) then a dragon swooped in grabbed a giant in its mouth and flung it away to its death. then gaurds in a tower attack and the dragon flung the gaurd so far he dissapeared. then a new one came basicly the dragons can tag team or do anthing they are unpredictable so please find a way to add this in a way that makes sense — Unsigned comment by 68.80.123.145 (talk) on 06 jun 2011

The e3 info will all get added eventually. Legoless 20:40, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

The Jill?

Okay, this is seriously bugging me. I managed to find ONE reference to these guys, enough to confirm they exist but not enough to satiate my curiosity about them. Anyone aware of anymore references to them? --AKB Talk Cont Mail 23:24, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Nope, I couldn't find anything either. They seem to be either a group of dragons who follow Alduin or the name for black dragons in general. --Legoless 00:20, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
I read something somewhere though can't remember where now about them being related only to the later main quests if you were well above when Ancient Dragons should spawn to make sure the late dragon fights in the questline are still a challenge even if you're max level with legendary daedric etc. Lord Eydvar 05:19, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Style

This probably won't be important to most, but I think it might be better if instead of writing in the article "a Dragonborn", we wrote "one who is Dragonborn" or "those who are Dragonborn". "A Dragonborn" just doesn't seem to flow right to me. Feedback?

Elisevs 04:47, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

All the external info I've seen uses "Dragonborn" as a title. I feel that what you're suggesting would be too cumbersome when implemented into the article. --Legoless 13:47, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

What if other people kill dragons?

While watching the E3 gameplay I noticed that other in game creatures/npcs can fight the dragons. If one was to kill one, would you still absorb the soul? Would you be able to loot meat? — Unsigned comment by 184.147.32.15 (talk) at 04:00 on 6 August 2011 (GMT)

There is nothing (that i know of) that says anything about this, one way or another — Unsigned comment by BenScoHolm (talkcontribs) at 18:01 on 27 August 2011 (GMT)
Just had a dragon attack me in Riverwood. Some random NPC got the last hit. The dead dragon was lootable (just like any other creature killed by others), but I did not get any soul. 82.234.243.203 22:20, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Dragon souls can be absorbed regardless of who kills it as long as you are close by when the soul leaves the body. At weaker levels I relied on guards to kill dragons for me, but always got the soul from them.--Dro'Bakha 10:50, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Shadowmere killed a dragon whilst I was in the cutscene cutting it's head off, and I got no soul... 2.120.205.231 17:40, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
There might be extenuating circumstances, like the dragon prematurly dying while player is finishing the dragon in a cutsene, but being nearby for a dragon death is all the player needs to absorb a soul.--Zar Pof 10:38, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
I recently got into a sort of gang-up session on a dragon. Two giants giant, two mammoths, a sabre cat, a pack of wolves, six or seven bandits (one of them was a chief), and three legion soldiers were all doing battle with a blood dragon in the areas around Talking Stone Camp. They all did far more damage than I could (combine all that and the dragon was pretty screwed), but the dragon focused mostly on me. One of the giants got the last hit in some ways away from me on the other side of the camp, and I then had to team up with one of the remaining legion soldiers to take down the rest of the opposition. He died of course. It took about 10 minutes to kill everything. I merely approached the dragon after all was said and done, and the dragon soul got absorbed. It had been dead for a while. I think you can absorb the soul no matter what as long as it dies a normal death. --Zmedaris 17:44, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Red/Orange dragons

in a xplay preview, a red/orange dragon was showcased. perhaps add it on the physical appearance section on the dragons page? i would do it my self but i wanted to see what others thought first --24.7.152.111 22:32, 28 October 2011 (UTC)joshdamn123

I assume that's the "bronze-skinned dragon" mentioned before. It's already mentioned on the article. --Legoless 22:38, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Invisible Dragon PS3 bug

I was attacking a dragon, outside of the place where you first meet astrid, from the dark brotherhood. the dragon, while flying, kept on going invisible, and reappeared, eventually when it landed, it stayed invisible, and i could only see it through its fire breath and the blood on it. when it died, i did not absorb its corpse; it was lootable though. has anyone else experienced this? --Killerkaiman 23:41, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

I have this same problem only I was out near Agna's Mill. I was doing a quest for someone when Alduin came down and raised the dragon just outside of the mill before flying away. I killed the dragon, gained a soul, and looted the dragon thinking nothing of it. The next time I went through the mill, the dragon attack music started playing, and the red dot appeared. I couldn't find the dragon though. It took me a while to fight this thing because unless it was either breathing fire or engaging Lydia, I had no clue where it was. I wasn't able to loot it again. This now happens every time I go by this place. The game doesn't recognize the enemy as being there since I'm able to Fast Travel and Save in the middle of swinging my sword at it. It's a little annoying to deal with, is this a common problem?183.3.45.103 14:58, 2 December 2011 (UTC)Ian

I'm playing on Xbox 360; I experienced a bug where, upon saving while a dragon was rushing towards me, about to blast me with flames, reloading into that save caused the dragon to disappear. His health bar was still visible, but he was pretty much gone. The music kept going, but there were no attacks or anything visible from him for a couple minutes. I had to revert to a save from right before he charged me. Cronos 05:21, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

I just experienced this bug on the PC. It was an encounter with Viinturuth. I only knew the dragon was there because some nearby soldiers were shooting it. I finished it off by hacking at seemingly thin air once it landed. It could see its breath, and I got hit by its bites, but the dragon and the corpse were invisible at all times. Ninepaw 20:26, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Also - I can walk straight through the dragon and its corpse, as if it wasn't there. Ninepaw 20:32, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Happend to me on PC version 1.3. It was a named dragon so I was able to fix it by 'resurrecting' the dragon: Open console and type (RefID).resurrect . You still don't get the soul, but at least you can loot the dragon. 94.220.232.179 10:15, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Skeleton Dragon

Should the Skeleton Dragon be added? So far I have only found one but it is still technically a type of dragon.RIM 14:31, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Dragon Types

In the article there is a list of dragon types and then the table of their stats. The table doesn't have stats fo 'flame dragon' which is listed above the table. Qazior 18:52, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

More types than listed.

Several dragons have very unique appearances that should be noted, so we can tell what we're fighting before it breathes at us. I don't recall if Fire Dragons and Ice Dragons look different, but I fought an unusual dragon that had a lot of round edges on the tail. This dragon summoned animals from all around to go hostile (Bears, Foxes, Rabbits, Goats, Spriggans, you name it) It seemed to be some kind of Nature Dragon, and it's appearance looked rather.... leafy. --DaedalusMachina 01:13, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Daedalus, i'm fairly sure you were just fighting a spriggan at the same time. Dragons don't have the ability to make animals fight for them, but spriggans do. And seeing as you mentioned them...
The Round Tailed Dragons are Blood Dragons. The Spriggan is what summoned the animals since none of the Dragons have the Animal Allegiance Shout. Lord Eydvar 20:41, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

I am currently mid-battle with a gold Elder Dragon who shouts both fire and frost, and who is blocking my way to Karthspire. I'm level 24. So yeah, the table/list thing seems a little incomplete/redundant/confusing (if said Elder Dragon is secretly a L40, that would explain why I'm having trouble offing it, but somehow I'm dubious). --76.166.187.131 12:17, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

The Karthspire Elder Dragon is always there, Its related to the Alduin's Wall quest and seems to be an Elder Dragon regardless of level. Also unlike most Elder Dragons I've seen it seems to be able to use both elements since the rest of the Elder Dragons only use one of them. It also seems to be leveled like the Draugr Overlord at the end of the Bleak Falls Barrow quest. So even if it says Elder Dragon if you're still low level its seems to be on par with regular Dragons or Blood Dragons besides it having both elements. Lord Eydvar 20:41, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Clean up

Some one should clean the article up and base the fact on whats in game, not whats found in articles describing a still in development Skyrim. An example of this is the 'Jill', while described in an article, I have yet to see a dragon called a 'Jill' or heard anyone reference a dragon or group of dragons as 'Jill/s' (I have the game for Xbox 360) 68.109.194.141 08:01 21 November 2011

Leveled Encounters

Is the level listed in the table under the Types subheading the one at which you encounter that particular type of dragon? If so, it seems to be inaccurate, as I encountered a dragon randomly (in the open around the Western Watchtower) at around level 7 or 8 (table indicates level 10), and a blood dragon randomly (in Riverwood) at level 18 (table indicates level 20). This is on PS3 using an Imperial character with the warrior stone active, if that makes any difference. Also, I completed the Dragon Rising quest prior to experiencing the random encounter at level 7 or 8. Does anyone have any insight on this? Eganio 04:14, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

The levels shown, I'm guessing, is the level of the dragon and not the level they are first encountered (that's probably much lower than the levels shown).--68.109.194.141 13:47, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. That makes sense. Eganio 01:56, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Yeah Dragons seem to start showing once you're about 1/2-3/4 of their level. So Elders can show as early as level 20 and Ancients at 25. But the chances seem to be extremely low until you're nearly their level. I've fought Blood Dragons at level 6 however so it also seems that the weaker types show as early at 1/4 of their level(Dragons showing regardless of level of course). However I've yet to see a Frost/Flame or higher earlier then the 1/2 mark. Once I got to level 40 I rarely saw anything under Elder Dragons so it also seems that at a certain point the lower level dragons are phased out, seems to be something like once you're double or even triple their level. Lord Eydvar 05:11, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Dragon's Soul, ObjectID

What is ObjectID of Dragon's Soul? Each has an unique ID? How to add them via console?

I don't think you can soul trap a dragon. At least, the three times I tried the dragon resisted the Soul Trap spell. --QuillanTalk 21:25, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

You can do the command 'player.setav dragonsouls Amount '

Dragon BaseIDs

I couldn't find where dragon's are listed with their BaseID, so I decided to add them here. Found them using the command help "dragon name" 4 and then taking the first BaseID from the list. Aezay 05:29, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Dragon Fights Within City Cells

I am not entirely sure if this was a bug, a feature, or a one-time event, but I fought a Frost Dragon within a 'major city'. Specifically, the fought happened in Windhelm. The page itself says that fights do not occur within city walls, but I've experienced a such a fight. Perhaps it is unique to certain cities, cities of certain sizes, a bug caused from Fast Travel, or a bug caused by going into the city with a Dragon in the area above the city.

In my case, I had fast traveled to Windhelm to turn in a quest I was doing (Recovering Cruel-Sea's amulet or some such), and after I had finished talking to the quest giver, I heard a dragons roar and then the fight started. I reloaded the Auto-Save from when I fast traveled to town again after the fight (because some NPCs died that I didn't want to, including my follower) and the dragon fight happened again consistently.

Unfortunately, I don't think I have that save anymore or I'd share it as proof. Still, I think it's worth mentioning that it may be possible to fight Dragons in some Cities.

I've called Odahviing in Windhelm once so I know its possible, it's just really rare probably.--68.109.194.141 10:27, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
If a dragon is spawned outside of a city cell but nearby, and then you enter the city it's my experience that the dragon will still be flying outside once you get inside. I had this happen near Dragonsreach: One dragon kept flying around North of Whiterun, but I couldnt make the arrow shot to get him down. I then fast travelled to Dragonsreach, and noticed he was still flying around to the North, eventually getting close enough that one of the guards pinged him, causing him to attack Whiterun. 174.114.210.201 16:19, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

I've killed a dragon inside Solitude. So it can happen.HisK 04:01, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

I've killed two in Winterhold, but I'm not sure if those count (no city walls, but they *will* land in the College Courtyard). Also had a very bizarre, buggy experience there (PS3)- after killing the second dragon that attacked Winterhold (Elder Dragon), I walked out of the College to find the body of an Elder Dragon hovering in the air next to the bridge. When I got near, it caught on fire and I absorbed its soul (free soul?! nice!) and I was able to loot it for more gold and bones. This is, by far, the strangest bug I've encountered in the game. At least it was a helpful bug! 209.66.120.3 17:25, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Bought a dagger in Whiterun and turned around to see a Blood Dragon flying over the wall and attacking. Also had one attack Solitude and Winterhold (360), Dec 14th, 2011.

As far as I have seen, dragons will and can attack any cities. I fought more than 50 dragons, perhaps even up to hundreds and have encountered them in all cities. However, there are five cities such as Winterhold, Dawnstar, Morthal, Falkreath and Solitude where the dragon will land in the city and it's building. However, these dragons will usually crash outside the city when they are seriously wounded. For the city of Windhelm, Riften, Markath and Whiterun, the dragons will not land in the cities. They will land on buildings and attack the player but they will not land on the city's ground. the dragons attacking Markath will not land on the building, they will hover above the air while attacking. The dragons attacking these 4 cities will crash outside the gates or fields outside of the wall when their health is low. This is what I observed but I might have miss something about their behaviour. 175.145.199.76 02:33, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

I've personally fought Dragons inside Windhelm and had them land on the stairs behind Candlehearth Hall and in the courtyard by the Palace of Kings. Lord Eydvar 04:09, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Wyvern

"A dragon's physical characteristics can be best compared to those of a two legged Wyvern." Is that a useful comparison? Do people know better about wyverns than dragons? I know I clicked the Wiki link just to find out what a wyvern looks like. --188.100.151.60 14:49, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, pretty pointless IMO. I knew what a Wyvern is, but Dragons are *much* better known. Also, Wyverns have two legs as well, so it's a strange comment to make, and whoever added it is childishly reverting it whenever it's changed. This is supposed to be informational, not some highly subjective opinion of what a Dragon looks like thru the eyes of a D&D geek. It's a freaking DRAGON, man. Wyverns don't deserve one ounce of credit, especially not in the opening description.209.66.120.3 17:31, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Although technically speaking this post is correct. However, a Wyvern is a type of Dragon. It is much like saying a Fox and a Wolf are two different creatures, which they are, but are both part of the Canine (AKA Canidae when speaking of their Family) group. Dragons and Wyverns are one in the same, just physically different. 4:24 PM, 14 December, 2011 (CST)

And where are the wyverns for the dragons to be compared to? I just did a search on the wiki and got nothing. It doesn't seem credible to compare a dragon to something that doesn't seem to exist in the ES world. Wyverns should not be mentioned at all.

No dragons until Dragon Rising

If you ignore the main quest right off the bat and never get to Dragon Rising, you will never encounter dragons. I did the thieves guild quests up to about level 30 before hitting the main arc and now there are dragons EVERYWHERE... Zazq 00:46, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

DRAGON SCALES AND BONES..!

i had killed some dragons cause i wanted to make a dragon's armor...when i entered the dark brotherhood and they gave me the key of the abandoned shack i though it was mine so i put in the chest all the dragon things cause they were a bit heavy...i went after a few days to put some more and puff....they were gone...is there any way to find scales and bones exept dragons???the dragon number is unlimited or its specific???— Unsigned comment by Misusel (talkcontribs) at 12:33 on 2 December 2011

nope, only way to get bones and scales is to kill them, however, there is an unllimited number of dragons. (Eddie The Head 12:34, 2 December 2011 (UTC))
Don't worry, there are an infinite number of dragons. I'm not too far through the main quest and they're already all over the place. Granted, my normal strategy for dealing with them is to run like hell, but if you're fond of their loot, it doesn't take very long to find more. Try talking to guards in Riften or continuing on the main quest. You could also sneak a peak at specific Dragon Lairs here on the wiki and try hightailing it to one of those. However, as the only person capable of properly murdering dragons, the Dragonborn (you) is Tamriel's only supplier of dragon bones, I'm sorry to say. --Thiafy 12:39, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
Dragons that appear at the shrines (the dragon head shapes on your map) actually respawn too, I'm not sure how long it takes but I've often gone back to a shrine I've killed the dragon at (and is marked "cleared") as a "closest point to my undiscovered destination" thing and found a dragon sitting on the word of power wall again. Not to mention how often I seem to encounter them randomly. I have over 60 of dragon scales and bones, plus I've sold at least 20 of each and made a set of the heavy dragon armor for a follower (Daedric armor for me), so don't worry, you'll get the materials again pretty quickly whether you decide to seek out dragons or not. And let this event be a lesson to never use the storage boxes of anywhere other than an actual bought home. There probably are other safe storage boxes out thete, but it's never a good idea to risk it if you don't want to lose your items. I mean, I've found followers pretty useless in this game (except for VERY early on) and I pretty much only use them as a portable storage container lol. --Lyco499 22:30, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Dragons flying backwards and refusing to land

Randomly a while ago I encountered an incredibly glitched dragon. It was flying backwards, vibrating weirdly and acting like it was stuck in certain parts of the sky for a while. I tried and tried to hit it with arrows without luck, beyond one or two. I left it. Ever since then whenever I find a dragon it acts similarly, including actually fleeing from me. It flies off from me and stays in the sky in a certain place, I chase after it and it flies off. It refuses to land. I've noticed that dragons usually won't land unless theres space to accomadate it but this is ridiculous. I haven't been able to kill any of the dragon I've encountered for ages. I'm on the Xbox 360 too, so console commands would be no help. Am I doomed? Is this all a coinscidence or is my game bugged beyond redemption? Anyone had anything similar at least? --Lyco499 (talk) 22:54, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

This is a well-known bug that came with patch 1.2; patch 1.3 was recently released for the PC and fixed this issue. Just wait for it to be released on the Xbox and it should be okay. Rath101 01:38, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I usually see them in falkreath particulaly bonestrewn crest. IM on ps3-joe590

Remaining dragon bugs in 1.3

This section says "as of the latest patch" (under bugs) : As of the latest patch certain dragons that spawn near the dragon shrines are glitched. These dragons are known to have very unstable flying animations, fly backwards, teleport, heal instantly to full health, get stuck mid-air, not attack the player (attacking completely at random patterns unpredictably) and not die even though their health is depleted. Being in their vicinity might also lower your framerate drastically. (it is a possibility to take the fight to the dragon itself. Use console command tcl to toggle your collision off and fly up to the dragon. It is advised to have spells, arrows and/or shouts ready as it is hard to catch it with melee weapons)

Since the latest patch is 1.3 and these sound like 1.2 bugs clarification would be nice.

I've also encountered(in 1.3) a bugged blood dragon. His health was normal, animations mostly okay except that when he was supposed to land he would fly up instead. He was still killable though and worked properly aside from that. Hitting him a few times with the resetAI command fixed the problem. Anyone else run into this ?( and I'm not changing the article because I don't know the editing procedures or if this is a unique bug)

As I mentioned above I've had the listed problems, but as a console player don't have the luxury of console commands. 2 dragon shrines have dragons flying above them that I can't kill due to their constant fleeing from me, flying backward, getting stuck, vibrating oddly etc etc. The dragon rend shout also does nothing to them. But that's not something I care too much about now. 1 more dragon soul and I'll have all words of all shouts and I have over 100 of both dragon scales and bones. But am I getting one new annoying as hell dragon glitch since finishing the main story and that is dragons often don't burn up now and I therefor don't absorb their soul. Out of the last 5 dragons I've killed 3 of them didn't burn up. It didn't happen until the main quest finished but it could equaly be caused by using the Dragonrend shout. 5 more dragons and not one of them burned up. I ended up going and killing Paarthurnax as a last option (really didn't want to kill him, despire not needing the Greybeard's loyalty) and managed to absorb his soul and grab the last word of power. Sucks, but ah well. --Lyco499 (talk) 20:43, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Same guy as above. If you're on console then you're still running patch 1.2, where that is a known issue. Once the patch is released for console you should be able to fight dragons again. And the issue I mentioned never happened again.

Dragon Nest Spawning Before "Dragon Rising"

Just tested this, apparently Dragon Nests do not have dragons if you haven't completed "Dragon Rising". 76.240.192.240 09:44, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Yep - pretty useful for characters that aren't training much in the way of combat skills and can't handle a dragon until much higher levels. Lets you side-quest and train your magic or crafting skills in peace. It seems to spawn random creatures instead of dragons for me - generally a pair of wolves at low levels. 70.24.92.63 20:03, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Dragons do not appear anywhere at all in any way until you complete Dragon Rising, heh. --Zmedaris 17:59, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
