Where Does He Go After Being Replaced?[edit]

During the Stormcloak liberation of Whiterun the Jarl takes his household and leaves, does anyone know where he actually goes? Does he just disappear completely or hole up somewhere else in Skyrim? Haravikk 14:01, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

quite a few times i have seen a something about a dungeon in solitude mentioned. (Eddie The Head 14:19, 25 November 2011 (UTC))
Ah, I finally managed to trigger The Whispering Door which pointed me to him, he lives in a small area under the Blue Palace, not sure it's a prison exactly but that's where he can be found :) Haravikk 14:23, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
thanks, im gonna check that out next time im in solitude. (Eddie The Head 14:24, 25 November 2011 (UTC))

Small Glitch[edit]

After the battle for Whiterun, Balgruuf invites me to make my home in Whiterun - despite the fact I've owned Breezehome for some months now. I think this is just a dialogue oversight, rather than anything sinister. Ninepaw 16:18, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Stormcloak replacement[edit]

What if you take whiterun in the name of Ulfric and depose Balgruuf before ever talking to him or initiating the quest which sends you to bleakfalls barrow? His dialog when he is being deposed wouldnt make sense. And would you be able to complete the main quest afterward, without his court mage or his guidance to meet the greybeards - or does the other guy do it? — Unsigned comment by 99.71.221.180 (talk) at 20:06 on 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Is that possible? You need to talk to him before the battle when you offer Ulfrics axe. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 20:19, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
The Jarl of Whiterun refuses to go to war while there is still a dragon threat, i.e you have to kill the dragon and find out you are dragonborn before you can continue the civil war on either side. RIM 20:22, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Blue Palace glitch[edit]

I am trying to talk to him to start the daedric quest, but for some reason all of the ex jarls are attacking the stormcloak soldiers. any ideas on how to solve it? I recently killed the emporer, has this got anything to do with it? — Unsigned comment by ‎90.216.11.29 (talk) at 09:47 on 4 April 2012

I'm not sure what the cause is but you could try to kill all the stormcloak guards in the palace which might stop them attacking. RIM 11:35, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Balgruuf's Children "Bug"[edit]

I noticed that it has been documented on this page (and the pages for his children) for a while now that it is a bug that Balgruuf's children do not move to the Blue Palace with him after the Stormcloaks take over Whiterun. Recently, it was added that the USKP fixes this bug. However, I really do not believe this is a bug and it was completely intended for the children not to move to the Blue Palace. When he is exiled, you can ask Balgruuf where his children is and he will reply, "If the gods are merciful, they've found a safe place to hide in the city. I hope Vignar doesn't find them. He'll ask a king's ransom, I'm sure." So, considering there is dialogue that can be heard in-game about Balgruuf's children still being in Whiterun, I really don't see how it is a bug that they do not go to the Blue Palace. The cslist confirms that line. Agreed. --AN|L (talk) 16:56, 24 October 2013 (GMT)
It's in the 'Notes' section rather than a 'Bugs' section for that reason. USKP "fixes" lots of non-bugs. — ABCface 16:56, 24 October 2013 (GMT)

Direct Descendent of King Olaf?[edit]

By who exactly is this said? I just looked through Skyrim's dialogue and didn't find any mentioning of this whatsoever. Is this not true or am I missing something? Dovahsebrom (talk) 16:04, 16 August 2014 (GMT)

Never mind, I found the quote that says this "Why, this very palace was built by one of Balgruuf's ancestors to hold a captive dragon. Hence its name - Dragonsreach" -Farengar. Dovahsebrom (talk) 23:44, 16 August 2014 (GMT)

Additional dialog[edit]

The 1st time you enter Dragonsreach, you will be forced to talk to Irileth but it is possible to avoid this: Outrun her up the stairs; When she follows you up, take a jump down to the floor of the main hall an introduce yourself to Balgruuf. I don't remember his opening dialog in detail but he comments on Gerdur/Alvor. — Unsigned comment by LT (talkcontribs) at 04:04 on 26 April 2015‎

The only dialogue I could find about them said by Balgruuf is what is already mentioned on the page below the table here. Specifically, the dialogue lines are: "Gerdur? Owns the lumber mill, if I'm not mistaken. Pillar of the community. Not prone to flights of fancy.../Alvor? The smith, isn't he? Reliable, solid fellow. Not prone to flights of fancy... And you're sure Helgen was destroyed by a dragon? This wasn't some Stormcloak raid gone wrong?" Forfeit (talk) 04:42, 26 April 2015 (GMT)
