past tenses of kneel[edit]

Knelt and kneeled are both correct despite this wiki's spell checker's red lining of the second. Note that the "kneeled" version is in fact more common in American English, the language of UESP.

therefore I have removed the "sic". Kalevala (talk) 21:19, 30 March 2013 (GMT)

I have modified the sic tag. The tag isn't saying it is wrong, it is saying not to change it because someone might THINK it is wrong. I have changed it so that instead of saying misspelling, it simply says that the spelling is copied from the game. That way, it doesn't say that the word is wrong, but rather that it shouldn't be changed. Jeancey (talk) 21:23, 30 March 2013 (GMT)

Thanks Jeancey, but the use of sic (Latin for thus) is explained here:
Sic in square brackets is an editing term used with quotations or excerpts. It means “that’s really how it appears in the original.” It is used to point out a grammatical error, misspelling, misstatement of fact, or the unconventional spelling of a name. None of these apply to "kneeled". From http colon slashslash www.dailywritingtips.com/what-does-sic-mean/
It just should not be there. Thanks for trying, but apparently the change did not "take" for either of us. Kalevala (talk) 02:55, 31 March 2013 (GMT)
I don't know about your change, but my change is present. We use the sic tag differently than it is generally used. We use it on words that people might change because they think it is wrong. In this case, because it is underlined on most internet browsers as wrong, it is a very likely candidate for this, thus the sic tag. Sic just happens to be the template we use to achieve this purpose. I have changed the hover text to indicate that it is not misspelled. I believe that should suffice. Is there a specific reason that a sic tag is detrimental in this case? Jeancey (talk) 03:05, 31 March 2013 (GMT)
I have further changed it so that the word "sic" no longer appears. Is that an appropriate compromise? Jeancey (talk) 03:09, 31 March 2013 (GMT)
Well yes. Though you need not do so for the sake of compromise with me. Of what importance am I to receive any compromise? However, for your information, there is a proof reading mark that comes close to the meaning you outlined, namely, stet (Latin for 'let it stand.') Again, thanks for your kind attention to this. Kalevala (talk) 23:42, 1 April 2013 (GMT)
Unfortunately, we do not have a stet template. Jeancey (talk) 06:27, 2 April 2013 (GMT)
