Fork Question[edit]

Hi. I have a question. I got the quest update after speaking to Bolwing, but then it said Big Head died before I got the Fork. Can I still go get the fork, or did it disappear with Big Head's death? I don't really care about quest completion, the fork is simply cool. P.S. This is the xbox 360 version of oblivion.--Kittyboymaxj 23:31, 16 October 2007 (EDT)

You can find the fork regardless of whether the characters involved are alive or dead - you obviously won't get the reward, though. --RpehTCE 01:34, 17 October 2007 (EDT)
Okay, thank you. I don't really care about finishing the Fork quest, but the Fork is such a weird bit of loot that I have to acquire it. Thanks for clearing that up.--Kittyboymaxj 10:07, 17 October 2007 (EDT)

He's a Maniac[edit]

Not only does Big Head's penchant for attacking New Sheoth citizens result in his untimely death, but the death of countless citizens. From Golden Saints to beggars, no NPC's yield to each other after accidental strikes. This escalates quickly into chaos, guards attacking bystanders, each other, eventually Dark Seducers will involve themselves. This can possibly ruin countless questlines. Avoid Big Head at all costs.---FromHereOn 20:51, 9 December 2007 (EST)

Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to just save before you talk to him? Big Head doesn't go retarded every single time he's spoken to. Well, not violently, at least--66.29.169.1 21:06, 4 January 2008 (EST)
In my case (PS3 with GOTY) soon after I gave him the fork he attacked and killed someone then the whole stinkin town joined in. The fight actually lasted quite a while with everybody attacking Big Head and then the guards attacking everyone else. There were 6 dead citizens and one dead guard so I could not have that. I went back to to Imperial City and created a Hood Of Death. The hood was a zero weight item I found somewhere so I enchanted it with shock damage then reverse pick-pocketed back onto Big Head. He did not put it on right away and he went into a crouch attack position. I was worried he would start an attack so I used the nudge technique to hold him against a wall until dark. He then gave up his crouch position and entered a building. The going thru a door caused him to put the hood on and he was dead a few seconds later. Using the Hood Of Death results in no murder or assault so it is the perfect way to get rid of annoying people like Big Head and the beggars. --TheOtherZack 4.246.21.180 00:00, 21 June 2008 (EDT)
Casting Frenzy or reverse pick-pocketing a poisoned apple would also work and it's more reliable.58.175.83.155 09:41, 23 August 2008 (EDT)

Reward[edit]

It appears that Big-Head can take you beyond the 100-point limit in Alchemy/Sneak/Blade. Can someone confirm this independantly, as I'm using a number of mods including KCAS, which might be allowing it where it otherwise wouldn't be. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 21:00, 10 May 2008 (EDT)

Yes it does. I was 100 alchemy and am now 101, but as mentioned elsewhere, all effects cap at 100 for these three skills -- The Other Zack4.246.21.180 23:41, 20 June 2008 (EDT)

Fork duplication?[edit]

- Theory: don't start the quest, get the fork. Can it be duplicated? Asuming it's not a quest item in this situation, the scroll exploit could work. Confirmation? If it did, one could have a fork, give Big Head the other and everyone's happy! ~Tryzon

-Sad news. Tried, fork is a quest item after all. Bottom line? No duplicating. Sigh. ~Tryzon

Iffy Wording[edit]

"It is best to do this quest first because the AI of Big Head puts him in danger of dying."

First, as in before what? Plus, "the AI of Big Head" is wordy. I'm for scrapping this note, but if it's important, it needs fixing. Somercy 01:50, 20 August 2008 (EDT)

I just reworded/reformatted the Notes section. It seems to be easier to read. As an aside, I didn't actually verify any of this, just reworded it. --GuildKnightTalk2me 21:04, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
Big Head's AI causes him to search for forks, which also involves stealing them, and he may be killed before the player encounters him. So by first I think the poster meant as the first thing you do in the Isles.-Puddle Talk+Contribs. 21:43, 21 August 2008 (EDT)

Weird Bug[edit]

I came into the shivering isls and picked the fork up on the way to crucible: I then walked near him, and then he got killed (I know this is a bug detailed, but read on...) I then got the 50 alert box saying I should give the fork to him, and the quest was moved to completed. I hadn't even started it prior to this: this was the only alert I got. — Unsigned comment by 78.149.3.83 (talk) on 23 August 2008

Bolwing in the wall?[edit]

Hi, I follow the quest arrow, and I search ALL around it, and it appears as if Bolwing is stuck in a wall, near where the duelists are, above Bernices, IIRC. Is this a bug, Or is it supposed to be this way? If it is a Bug, Any fix? Is it like the bug of characters jumping off the bridge in skingrad. Ah well, Thanks in advance, Jetty. Four tildes? >89.240.170.156 15:44, 19 September 2008 (EDT)

It's a bug yes. You could try leaving and re-entering Crucible, and check if he still stuck. If that doesn't work you can try waiting for a while before re-entering Crucible, or in the worst case, wait for more than 72 hours. --Timenn < talk > 10:44, 20 September 2008 (EDT)
That did not fix the problem, I have been all over cyrodil since that, came back to check on MY isles, And he is still stuck above sickly bernices. Jetty 89.240.170.156 13:41, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Are you playing on the PC? If so, bring up the console and type prid 698E8 and then moveto player. That should get him out of any sticky situation. If not... dunno, sorry. –RpehTCE 13:57, 23 September 2008 (EDT)

Thanks. Yep, A PC here. - Jetty. 89.240.126.59 11:39, 24 September 2008 (EDT)

Fork in Container[edit]

I was skeptical at first whether the fork could actually be found on a regular basis in the jewely box. There is a specific AI package (SE45mReturnPackage) that covers the Escort of the Fork to the jewelry box (execution depends on the result of the fight between the Zealots and the Heretics). It's reasonable a player can expect the fork in the container instead on an NPC or on the table itself. --Timenn-<talk> 20:37, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Where is Big-Head?[edit]

I found The Fork of Horripilation just when I came to Shivering Isles, so I wanted to go to Bliss to give it to him. Unfortunetly, he wasn't there. I chcecked whole Bliss (shops, his house, others' houses and inns at different times of a day), but I didn't find him. I thought he's dead, but his tomb doesn't appear in New Sheoth's Graveyard. Also Fork is marked as a quest item and I cannot sell it neither throw away. Where should I else look for him? — Unsigned comment by 212.127.95.225 (talk) at 17:28 on 14 July 2009 (UTC)

If he had died, the fork would no longer be a quest item. Unfortunately, he just sort of wanders everywhere, sneaking around, so if you're not on PC, there's not much help finding him. --GKTalk2me 22:41, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I found him wandering around Cyrodill, thanks anyway :) — Unsigned comment by 212.127.95.225 (talk) on 16 July 2009
Where did you find him? What quests had you done? There's no way an SI NPC should be seen in Tamriel unless some kind of glitch was taking place. –rpehTCE 20:49, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

The Location of the Fork.[edit]

While doing this quest recently (using a full set of chameleon gear) I witnessed the zealots and heretics fighting at Longtooth Camp (heretics won), and afterwards the Fork was nowhere to be seen. I then started searching the other camps and found the fork inside a jewelry box in Hardscrabble Camp. — Unsigned comment by 98.127.141.180 (talk) on 13 August 2009

You're right. There is also an AI Package dealing with the return of the Fork to that jewelry box. The quest article has been updated. --Timenn-<talk> 10:49, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Fork is still quest item after Big Head dies[edit]

Completing the quest after Big Head dies[edit]

Is there any way to complete the quest after Big Head dies using the console or any other means? I tried resurrecting him, but the Fork is no longer a quest item. --IronMaiden 01:34, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Once the NPC dies the quest reachs stage 205 and it will be completed but without reward, it's not possible to go back quest stages. I think that the only workaround would be adding the reward yourself by: modpcs bladeorsneakoralchemy 1 . --Wizy 06:33, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! Well, not being able to go back quest stages is very inconvenient, I wonder why the designers built that in. --IronMaiden 11:30, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Sneak Tip Reference to Blind Moth Priests?[edit]

In the sneak tip, it says "though the blind man can see you." is that a reference to the Blind Moth Priests being able to see you when you sneak? 99.237.87.79 12:38, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

There's no way of knowing, but it might do. rpeh •TCE 13:04, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Unable to Receive Reward[edit]

Every time I try to receive my reward, the skill increase, Oblivion closes. I'm not exactly sure why this happens, and I've tried every skill increase option. Is there any way I can fix this?

You Can't Fix This[edit]

u cant fix that glitch until u buy a new game or restart ur console. — Unsigned comment by 110.150.87.81 (talk) at 08:48 on 18 December 2017

That's helpful advice. One question though, which glitch do you mean? Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:25, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Recipe for sort of doing this quest if Big Head dies[edit]

This is a recipe for sort of doing this quest on PC if Big Head has died. About the only things you get from it are Big Head's Charm, the Fork itself, and a chance to participate in the battle between the Heretics and Zealots at Longtooth Camp. You won't get the training reward from Big Head.

In my game, the guards killed Big Head right in front of me, one of the first few times I went into Bliss. I thought that was supposed to happen, so I looted his body and went to his house, hoping to get a quest, but no such luck. Later, I checked here, and found out that Big Head dying is a common problem.

When I did this, the Heretic/Zealot battle had not yet been resolved - the main Shivering Isles quest was still in progress. You may have a slightly different result. I did this on PC, version 1.2.0416, installed from retail disc, no mods.

As always, save before doing any of these console shenanigans.

1. (Optional) If you haven't already, go to Bliss and pickpocket Rendil_Drarara's fork, so Big Head doesn't get killed by the guards again.

2. In the console, prid 13b46 to select Big Head.

3. "13b46".resurrect 1 and then "13b46".enable to revive Big Head.

4. Find Big Head in Bliss and talk to him. He probably won't give you his charm or have any quest-related dialogue, though.

5. setstage SE45 10 to get the update that Big Head asked you to find the Fork of Horripilation. This update, and all the other updates for this quest, will appear on the "Completed Quests" page of your journal, not the "Active Quests" or "Current Quest" page.

6. player.additem 083F60 1 to put Big Head's Charm in your inventory.

7. Go talk to Bolwing in Crucible. He will notice that you can understand him and speak to you a little, but he won't have any other quest-related dialogue.

8. setstage SE45 20 to get the update that Bolwing told you where the Fork is. You won't get a red or green map marker, though.

9. Get to Longtooth Camp in some way. I fast-traveled to Gates of Madness and walked towards Longtooth Camp. As I got closer to the camp, a couple of Zealots manifested near me, drew their weapons, and started running towards the camp. They started a battle with the Heretics at the camp, with both sides ignoring me at first. Eventually, once both the Zealots died, the Heretics noticed me and I fought them.

10. Check the jewelry box in front of the small statue in the "upstairs" room at Longtooth Camp for the Fork. (If it's not there, see the main article for the other place it might be.) Pick it up, and you should get the quest update to give the Fork to Big Head.

11. Get back to Bliss in some way.

12. Find Big Head and talk to him. He probably won't have any quest-related dialogue or give you the training as a reward.

13. setstage SE45 200 to "finish" the quest. Big Head's Charm and Big Head's Fork will still be in your inventory as normal, non-quest items.
