Conversation Options[edit]

Can someone go through the conversation with her and document what happens when you choose different options? I didn't save before it and it would be good to know how she reacts when you insistently demand that she free her test subjects. --Andyg 23:57, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Stats[edit]

Do the parts you choose actually affect the stats of the Gatekeeper? --74.135.103.40 18:54, 18 May 2007 (EDT)

to a degree, yes. i made my gate keeper near invernarable to melee and arrows, but magic will hurt him. tried to kill him with magic and melee and magic did best. hope that help :) 24.111.209.63 18:20, 20 June 2009 (EDT)

The New Gatekeeper[edit]

After you have completed the quest, does the Gatekeeper actually attack people trying to enter the Isles proper, (apart from the Forces of Order that come immediately after you build him) or just walk around but not actually do anything? --Merco 12:34, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

He does attack intruders. When Haskill gives you the mini-quest to save Passwall (after you become the new Madgod), you can see the Gatekeeper in action. He can defeat the intruders single-handedly. --Mankar Camoran 13:19, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

Prerequisite Quest[edit]

Isn't The Prerequisite Quest to this Retake the Fringe? --Lavadragon 05:07, 27 August 2007 (EDT)

Yes, you're right. Good spot. Now fixed. --RpehTalk 05:21, 27 August 2007 (EDT)

umm[edit]

There are rock blocking one path to the markers and roots blocking the way to another, and i cant find a way through them. I looked this up expecting it would say how — Unsigned comment by Bori85 (talkcontribs) at 20:10 on 6 February 2008

Well we all have to live with disappointment in life. Have you tried looking here? –RpehTCE 15:23, 6 February 2008 (EST)
Okay, that wasnt very helpful, I found my own way but now I'm stuck looking for the switch to open the door for the blood liqeur. Kind of the point of the first question is where do i find the switches, and the maps dont have that — Unsigned comment by Bori85 (talkcontribs) at 20:34 on 6 February 2008
I'm also struggling to find out how to get through the door where the Blood Liqueur is, any help would be most appreciated. — Unsigned comment by 91.105.97.36 (talk) at 16:19 on 20 February 2008
I had this issue as well. Once entering the tangled root doors, i couldn't get back through them to follow the green mist (which does accurately lead you to the essence of breath). I re-loaded, and follwed the mist directly, and had no problem getting to the essence. Just make sure you do not back-track, as after doing as much, i was got stuck between the root door (which does not even give you a "the roots won't budge message" it just won't open) and the rocks as well.... Just follow the mist to the essence as soon as you enter the room, and as far as i found, it didn't seem like there was much else to find in that section of the caves any who... — Unsigned comment by 70.99.152.122 (talk) at 15:20 on 8 October 2008
as for the switch to get into the door for the blood liqeur: if you are facing the door, turn around 180 deg, and there she is, on the pedestal with the chests on it... — Unsigned comment by 70.99.152.122 (talk) at 15:37 on 8 October 2008

() I am in the Caverns of Susurration and the only ingredient I need now is the derma one, but I can't figure out how to get past the twisted roots to get away from the Essence of Breath chamber and into the Conservatorium Corpusculum. Help! — Unsigned comment by 173.22.103.87 (talk) at 22:21 on 13 February 2010

Walkthrough[edit]

The walkthrough for the first stage is very brief. Could somebody tell me, in particular, how to open the gate? The switches don't stay activated. — Unsigned comment by 218.186.13.3 (talk) at 07:29 on 8 March 2008

There are other switches that can be activated near the doors. — Unsigned comment by 201.159.197.83 (talk) at 20:37 on 25 June 2008‎

Blood Liqeur[edit]

The walkthrough should really describe where to hit the switch for that door. — Unsigned comment by 12.4.222.51 (talk) at 03:51 on 7 April 2008‎

Point of magic?[edit]

Is there much point giving the gatekeeper the Angry Mind (fortify Willpower) or breast of magic (fortify magic)? Does the gatekeeper even cast spells? 203.91.84.7 03:38, 3 June 2008 (EDT)

Yes, there's a very important reason to give the Gatekeeper those body parts: because they give you (the player, not the Gatekeeper) the corresponding greater powers. Given that the Gatekeeper you create is an essential character, his powers and abilities are basically irrelevant: no matter what happens, he's not going to die. So all that really matters when choosing his body parts is whether the greater powers are ones that make your character stronger. Without options such as Angry Mind and Breast of Magic, the Gatekeeper's perks would be far less useful for magic-based characters than combat-based characters. --NepheleTalk 12:08, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
Oh, great. Looks like I should load an old save! Thanks though 203.91.84.7 23:27, 4 June 2008 (EDT)

Moved from article[edit]

***Not difficult at all when compared to fighting the entire Imperial watch for example. (For glory) Due to the Gatekeeper's low agility. Backward power-attacks with heavy two-handed weapons e.g. Shadowrend sends him flying 15 feet up in the air. Where city guards would simply shield bash, disarm. And his armor rating is close to nothing, took 80 hits to get him unconcious 3 times with Shadowrend yet weapon health was at still at 117%. However at low levels e.g. under 25, you will of course need to keep your distance from it unless equipped with 101% reflect-damage. (But then, it'd be boring thus pointless.)

This is a comment that belongs on a talk page (if anywhere), not on the article itself. Even if anyone does think it belongs here, it must certainly be rewritten. — LordDagon 11:39, 5 August 2008 (EDT)

trespassing?[edit]

why is it when i left out the back door of Relmyna's sanctum with the key, it classed it as trespassing until i got outside? this tends to happen with lots of other things as well. is it just an irrelevant bug which doesn't affect gameplay? — Unsigned comment by Repeater (talkcontribs) on 15 April 2009

What makes you conclude you were trespassing? The cell is marked as a public area. The only thing I can find is that Relmyna is contemplative about your presence, the first time you visit here on this quest. She will say: You dare disturb me in my sanctum?!? --Timenn < talk > 10:30, 15 April 2009 (EDT)
it wasn't classed as trespassing the door had the trespassing icon even though it was leading outside into a public place. sorry, i'll try to be clearer next time.--Repeater 17:04, 15 April 2009 (EDT)

Verification Needed[edit]

The following was recently modified in the notes section:

Talking to Relmyna will yield insights into her rather depraved personality. If you have read Experiment Log - Day 12 on the table next to her, you may select the "Victims" dialogue option and demand that she release her prisoners and offer yourself for experimentation in their place.

I can't find anything in the Construction Set that suggests that the player must first read the note in order to get the Victims topic. In fact I also recall very recently playing through that quest and I had the Victims topic without reading the note. If someone else could take a look, I would appreciate it. –Eshetalk 03:01, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

In hindsight, I am not certain if that particular note is the trigger for the dialogue option. However, I am 100% sure that at one stage there was no such topic, until I read the note. Might be a case that reading any note will allow the topic to trigger, or even a bug. I'll look into it. Char207 22:43, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Okay I've run through that quest again, and it seems that without reading any of the scrolls in Xaselm, Sanctum of Vivisection ("Experiment Log - Day 12" and "Unproductive Musings"), the Victims topic will not appear. Reading the notes in Xaselm, Experiment Chambers will not yield the topic either. Thus, as far as I can see, the player MUST read at least one of the two notes (marked as property of Relmyna where stealing icon appears) in the Sanctum of Vivisection for the topic to appear. Char207 01:09, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Sounds good enough to me! I will remove the VN tag. --Elliot(T-C) 01:14, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Exalted Pain had no effect[edit]

Exalted Pain did not cause any harm whatsoever when cast on my character, except that I was knocked to the ground. I still got the Manacles of Pain afterwards, but none of my stats, health, or magicka were affected at all.

I had no magic resistance of any sort, so I'm not sure why that happened, but just thought I'd mention it. Shashakiro 01:36, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

is you're charcter born under the atronach? — Unsigned comment by 142.68.104.101 (talk) on 2 March 2010

monsters are not attacking...[edit]

when I enter Xaselm or Gardens of Flesh and Bone all creatures (flesh atronachs, skeletons, skinned hounds and others)dont attack me. They are just walking around and dont paying attention at me.. Is this normal? EDIT: It seems that Hungers are attacking me. --XPviper 13:25, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Osseous Marrow[edit]

Moved from article:
The Osseous Marrow may never appear (confirmed on PS3)

What would cause this, when does this happen or how can it be solved? It's not helpful if the note doesn't give more information than this. --Timenn-<talk> 14:56, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
This occurred for me now as well.
This is the first of the ingredients I attempted to collect.
The bone structure is there, but the lamp hanging from the bones seem to come out of thin air. The "claw" part of the structure is gone.
Taking all the other items in the other areas of the dungeon didn't help. I can't finish the quest as it is now.
It is not possible to "collect" anything from the structure.

EDIT:
Restarting game had no effect. Neither had exiting to the fringe.
Still stuck as it is.

I had the same problem but it only happened with one of my two characters, my rogue. My warrior managed to get it just fine. I'm attempting to figure out why, there were some differences in the playthrough (lit the flame for different side, helped Saints instead of Seducers at Cylarne, didn't attain the Manacles of Pain), but I need to know specifically why it happens so when I restart with my rogue I don't hit the same problem. If you could please e-mail me at kai_thedon@hotmail.com, or reply here, so we can discuss what we both did and try to zero in on exactly why this occurs I (and I'm sure anyone else having/to have the problem) would be eternally grateful. — Unsigned comment by 86.20.114.245 (talk) at 19:45 on 14 July 2010
The same thing happened to me as well. I am playing the German PAL 5th Anniversary Edition on PS3, but in english. Stubborn as I am i tried to solve it. The first time I encountered the bug was on my normal dementia playtrough doing sidequests and dungeons in between the main quest. I thought maybe something went wrong while just playing the game normally. I have a save file before entering the Shivering Isle. So I basically speedran the mainquest up to that point with just loading once or twice - same result. I thought maybe the bug was triggered by something from the dementia side, as the poster stated above. So i speedran the mainquest once again completely on mania side and the bug still occured.
Beyond that I tried sleeping, reentering the dungeon and reentering Shivering Isles.
I tried to transfer the save file to pc and i actually managed to load it up, but you can't save or enter a new area without the game crashing. The craziest thing was that I actually had Osseous Marrow in my inventory even tough I was never able to pick it up, while the other 3 ingredients I collected were missing. I even tried to change the language to german which resets Shivering isles, making a save file and loading it in english once again. But this seemed just put more holes into the save file and trigger even more bugs.
I loaded the save file on 3 different PS3's with the same result. I used the same game disc, because as far as I know the 5th anniversery is an exact copy of the GOTY.
IMHO the bug must be related to the save file. As long as we're not able to dissect the PS3 save file, there's no way of knowing why the bug gets triggered. — Unsigned comment by 145.250.209.1 (talk) at 16:28 on 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Considering the amount of posts on this talk page over the years, it's clear this bug is confirmed for PS3. I've restored it to the page. —Legoless (talk) 09:57, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Summon power[edit]

In the article it mentions that talking to Relmyna will give you the summon power, every time I've played though you get it simply by being there.— Unsigned comment by 85.210.2.3 (talk) at 14:02 on 2 October 2009

  • When the quest had begun, the player cannot leave the shivering isles, or at least cannot fast travel to the door to Cyrodill. It is not confirmed if this commonly happens, or is meant to happen.
This is actually related to Retaking the Fringe, during and after that quest the Fringe is altered and it becomes impossible to fast travel to locations inside the fringe from oustside it. Also you cannot Fast Travel from inside the fringe to most locations outside it (IIRC New Sheoth is the exception)

I Need help after i exit this place the battle music wont stop playing any fixes?— Unsigned comment by 24.7.65.101 (talk) at 21:21 on 10 June 2010

Save&Reload usually works. Mike/|\ 22:20, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
You're probably still being chased by an enemy. See if you can wait. If you can't, you are still being followed. Entering another area might help as well. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 22:35, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
If you press the left analog button, or whatever your "sneak" button is, you can usually tell if something is actually following you. Mike/|\ 22:39, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

PS3 bug?[edit]

I have a problem saving while in Xaselm. It causes the game to crash and I need to restart my system. I'm playing this on my PS3. I can continue through the quest, but i am unable to save until I've left Xaselm. — Unsigned comment by 206.45.200.173 (talk) at 01:07 on 31 August 2010

Sounds odd. I have about 4 or 5 saves inside Xaselm (during that quest) and have no problems at all. I'm on the PS3 as well. However, before my old PS3 crashed, I had several problems with the auto-save function in the Shivering Isles. The game crashed every time I tried to load an auto-save. Sometimes it helped simply to turn off the system entirely and try again - otherwise, just save outside if that works. --Krusty 16:54, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Summon power bug?[edit]

On the site it says that the flesh atronach power you get summons a more powerful atronach at higher levels. On of my characters was level 30 when i completed this quest but I still only got a mangled flesh atronach spell, this character also first entered the shivering isles on around level 20 so has this happened to anyone else before? Or does anyone know a way to get a summon mended flesh atronach spell. — Unsigned comment by 90.199.32.22 (talk) at 15:08 on 22 August 2011

messed it all up :([edit]

ok so basically i didnt know that you had to get two ingredients in one room and you then couldnt just go back and get the other.. so im now stuck after getting the marrow and cannot find way out.. if anyone could help i'd be grateful! :) thanks ellie
