3 In-Game Hours?[edit]

This did not take even remotely 24 in-game hours on mine. It could not have been more than 3 hours at best, I ran from the Priory of the Nine to the Imperial Waterfront and received the marker almost immediately after stepping out of Lake Rumare. I don't know why this happened though, even the manual says it will take 24 in-game hours before receiving the update. --AlbinoMudcrab 03:41, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

This is noted in the Article; times can vary from 3 hours to three days--LordDagon 11:36, 26 January 2008 (EST)

Moth[edit]

It was once stated in an interview in Official XBox Magazine that there is 1 moth in the swarm of butterflies.

I've moved this note here from the main article. I'm not really sure whether anyone particularly cares about moth and butterfly statistics, but if the note is going to be in the article I'd like to make sure it is accurate. And based upon the construction set, at least, I don't see any evidence for this. In particular, the MiscMoth01 static effect used to create moths is not used anywhere in this area or in any scripts. Can anyone confirm this statement or at the least provide a link to the source interview? --NepheleTalk 22:30, 30 July 2007 (EDT)

Possible bug?[edit]

I am able to enter the door but cannot sit down to talk with Haskill. Has anyone encountered this and is there a fix?

It's a commonly encountered bug that appears after completing the Knights of the Nine questline. Don't worry though; the game will still recognize your attempts to sit and the quest will continue. --Saruuk 17:40, 9 August 2007 (EDT)

Return to Cyrodil?[edit]

Do I need to get Live?[edit]

Do I need Xbox Live to install the game of the year expansion? I have tried waiting for three or four days and was met with nothing. I just noticed my machine asks for an update on installation. What I don’t know is if the update is on the disk, or if I need to get Xbox Live to use it. Can anyone help?

I have the Game of the Year edition of Oblivion. The Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions are downloaded off Disk 2, and then you play them on Disk 1. You don't need Xbox Live.

Question about the Shivering isles patch[edit]

Once i install the update from the collectors edition of Oblivion do I need the first disc of the edition for it to play. I have the original version but it doesn't work. The thing is though a friend of mine did it this exact same way but it works could it be a hardware problem or maybe it could be a software problem. any help would be appreciated.

I installed the first disc before putting the expansion disc into my machine and have had no problems playing Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine apart from the recognised glitches and random game freezing that seem to be a common experience for all gamers.

help[edit]

this seems like the right place to put it....or on the next quest...i leave the gate to try and put things in my house. and as i go out there are about 5 golden saints and residents of bliss with one member of the sacellum arden sul.. can i get them back into the gate? what do i do about it? i had a 40 gold shivering isles bounty if it helps

Out of curiosity[edit]

Does anyone know the distinction between quest state 50 and quest state 200? Glenmorial 22:37, 16 May 2009 (EDT)

Stage 50 is never used. The script that runs when Haskill says "Enjoy your stay" sets stage 200 but has code to set stage 50 commented out. That's the only reference to stage 50 anywhere. –RpehTCE 00:07, 17 May 2009 (EDT)
Ah, interestering. I wonder why they did it that way. Thanks for the response. Glenmorial 20:06, 17 May 2009 (EDT)

Bug?[edit]

Occasionally Belmyne Dreleth will be pushed off the island into the water during the initial fight, preventing the quest from proceeding.

This was put on the article here and I subsequently added a VN tag that said "Does this really stop the quest? Can the player not simply kill Dreleth?". We now have this added as a second VN that seems to explain that the bug is incorrect: " On versions I've seen, this does not stop the quest, the NPC merely falls off after him, kills him, and returns to position.".
I've moved it here since, essentially, the verification has been done. –rpehTCE 06:36, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
On testing this myself, I found that rpeh's initial hypothesis in the VN tag is correct. He will not always path properly back onto the island, so I re-instated the initial bug report, but put it in the Notes section, since it's a readily-solvable bug. Might still belong in the bugs section, though, I suppose. —Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 22:10, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Can't find gate?[edit]

I bought the Game of the year edition ages ago, and i have never got a quest about the Shimmering Isles, i looked in Nimben Bay but all i could find was Fort Grief? Do i need to be a certain level or have done a quest for it to come? I'm level 10, Gray fox of Thieves Guild, Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, Grand Champion of the Arena, Swordsman of the Fighter's guild and Divine Crusader of the Knights of the nine. In the main story line i'm at the part where i have to get the armour of Tiber Septim. — Unsigned comment by 77.102.193.250 (talk) at 21:22 on 14 September 2009

The quest is called A Door in Niben Bay and should pop up within three in-game days. You don't have to do any quests or leveling - and judging from how far you are in the game, it should've appeared under your current quests ages ago - along with a map marker in Niben Bay. Are you on PC, Xbox or PS3? --Krusty 21:36, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

I don't have that quest in the Current quests tab, and it is on the PS3 — Unsigned comment by 77.102.193.250 (talk) at 15:32 on 15 September 2009

That's really odd. Maybe you should try starting a new game, just to check if it pops up or your disc is seriously broken? It only takes 15 minutes to run through the Tutorial, so it might be worth a check. Other than that, I can't help you - I'm on the PS3 as well, and have started from scratch over twenty times - and the mission has always popped up within three in-game days. Krusty 16:15, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

I started a new game, got to where the emperor dies. Then i waited for 3 days, nothing happened. I looked at the disc, and there aren't any scratches at all. What coudl it be? — Unsigned comment by 77.102.193.250 (talk) at 18:20 on 15 September 2009

Remember, you will have to exit the sewers for the quest to initiate. Also, can you please sign your posts with four tildes as instructed at the top of this page? Thanks - and good luck triggering the quest. Krusty 19:29, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

I got out of the sewers and waited 3 days, nothing happened, does this mean it won't work at all? 77.102.193.250 19:56, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, I must admit, I'm out of ideas. Except.... if you look here, you will see that there is a PS3 version without the Shivering Isles - is it possible, that your disc is the "non-SI"-version? (it might say Game of the Year on the cover, but not on the disc or something). That is the only explanation I can think of, as I have never heard about anyone having problems triggering Shivering Isles on the Game of the Year edition for PS3. Krusty 20:09, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
You're right, it doesn't say anything about being game of the year on the disc, but i have all of the Knight of the Nine armor set, doesn't that require me to have the Knights of the Nine? 77.102.193.250 15:11, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
All PS3 versions of the game come with Knights of the Nine (see PS3 content), so it sounds like you just have the regular version of the game. --NepheleTalk 15:18, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Ok thanks to everyone who commmented, i guess they gave me the wrong disc when i bought it; nothing i can do now its been way to long to take it back. I guess i'll just buy the expansion. If i do, will i still have all the saved data i have at the moment? 77.102.193.250 20:45, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

While not a PS3 player myself, as far as I know, it works the same there as on the PC, and yes, you'd still have everything you already have plus all the new content. The problems usually arise when you're going the other way around and UNinstalling something. —Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 21:36, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Conversation Option Missing[edit]

HELP!!!! i found a bug when i go in the door haskill asks me about the staff of sheogorath quest that happens later in the shivering isles main quest and i can't get him to accept me as a champion because the topic doesn't appear please someone tell me what to do!!!!

this is on computer! — Unsigned comment by 173.181.53.175 (talk) at 19:12 on December 5, 2010

Something similar to this happened to me, when I spoke to Haskill for the second time, the "I'll do it." dialogue option didn't appear and so I couldn't progress the Shivering Isles questline at all. In the end, I had to use a console command to force the dialogue option to appear. Enter AddTopic SE01HaskillChoice9 into the console, enter dialogue with Haskill again, and the conversation topic should appear. I have a hunch that this glitch could have come about by me COC'ing into the Shivering Isles and beginning some quests before I'd completed this quest (Specifically, the quests "Addiction" and "The Antipodean Hammer"). — Unsigned comment by 49.176.100.126 (talk) at 14:40 on 16 February 2022 (UTC)

How long can it take for the isle to appear?[edit]

Whats is the possible max time it takes for the update to appear in your journal? ive been waiting almost three days game time. — Unsigned comment by 97.120.174.167 (talk) at 22:52 on December 29, 2010

Unless you have a mod that would change it, it should update after 24 hours exactly. If it doesn't then you should just go to the Strange Door and you will get the update. --DKong27 Talk Cont 05:45, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Problem![edit]

I got a expansion pack for the 360. One disc, with KoTN and SI. I installed it, on the one disc on the case, and played the game. Neither expansion was working. For months, I tried to get the quest in the Niben, the Priest who starts KoTN, but could not. I re-installed, but still nothing. I waited for weeks ingame, have played for months, and even deleted all my games. Nothing. Help? — Unsigned comment by 114.78.124.94 (talk) on 25 May 2011

Please? — Unsigned comment by 114.78.124.94 (talk) on 27 May 2011
If nobody replies it's because nobody knows. You probably didn't install it right or the disc is scratched. Nothing we can do. You might try asking on the official forums though. rpeh •TCE 09:58, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Unable to speak to Haskill[edit]

When I sit down my cursor can't fully reach haskill so I can't start a dialogue with him it does nothing but occasionally flash the -talk- button for milliseconds but I can never actually press it in time — Unsigned comment by 72.39.123.186 (talk) on 13 June 2011

Strangely I solved this by placing the book onto the chair seat and sitting down XD — Unsigned comment by 72.39.123.186 (talk) on 14 June 2011
I have the same problem and I tried the book but it just fell off when I sat down. I have The 5th Anniversery Edition for 360. (Master-Wizard100 10:07, 13 August 2011 (UTC))
Sit down and look above his head, there will be the talk icon. Move down slowly until the marker goes. move up till it appears again and click. it should work. — Unsigned comment by 208.180.172.179 (talk) on 18 April 2012

Butterfly Effect Glitch?[edit]

So I recently downloaded the shivering isles off the psn but whenever I try and play it, it freezes in the exact same spot. I go through the strange door in nibean bay and I sit down and talk to Haskill and then he gets up and walks away to leave the room like he should, but then instead of him leaving and the room melting away into the flourescent butterflies, he just stands there at the other end of the room and nothing happens. I've tried making new characters, erasing and recreating game data, none of it is working. Any help would be appreciated. — Unsigned comment by 24.70.190.0 (talk) at 18:29 on 23 July 2011 (GMT)

What am I looking at?[edit]

I am doing this quest and while swimming to the door or whatever (haven't done it yet) I came across this. I am here. Can anyone tell me what the hell that is supposed to be? Clearly the game is messed up, but why is this so? Can anybody help me fix it? Is it important enough for me to worry about? 114.76.16.252 08:49, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Just as an update, it turns out the "Strange door" is one of these things, and I can't use it or anything. I clip right through them so that doesn't help me figure out what I'm supposed to be looking at. I can't do this quest. I talked to the two people floating in the water, they didn't speak but the subtitles said they were trying to be quiet. I hope you guys can help me with this. 114.76.16.252 08:56, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

This isn't the place for tech support, but I'll help as much as I can nonetheless. Those question marks are the result of a missing asset: texture, mesh, or otherwise. You probably won't see this considering the dates, but you should reinstall the dlc. I do not mean unactivate and then reactivate it, but to completely delete it and redownload it. If that doesn't work, this(retrieved April 1st, 2012) website illustrates a method of repair using Oblivion's Mod Manager. 64.72.40.104 18:50, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I got this quest and then lost it again; reinstalling SI/KotN fixed it.[edit]

tl;dr: At least on PC, if you get this quest and then lose it again, reinstalling Shivering Isles from disc may help.

I installed the base game, Knights of the Nine, and Shivering Isles on all at the same time on my PC, from the Game of the Year retail disc (1.2.0416). Very early in the base game, I got the notification about the rumor that starts this quest. When that happened, I got the light-colored map marker in Niben Bay, and if I made that quest active, the map marker had the red pointer on it - so far so good.

I then did everything in the base game - main quest and all the side quests - without doing anything else about this one. I didn't check it all the time, but I know that this quest stayed in my quest list at least until sometime late in the base main quest. When I got done with the base game, I then did all of KotN.

Once I was ready to proceed with SI, I looked in my quest list, but this quest wasn't there anymore. The map marker in the Niben was gone, too. I went to Bravil anyway and did quite a bit of swimming around, but couldn't find the island. (I checked where I was against the map here, so I'm >98% sure I was in the right spot.)

I tried disabling the SI data file in the launcher, loading an existing save, saying yes when it complained that the save depends on something that's no longer installed, playing for a minute, quitting to desktop without saving, starting the launcher again, enabling SI, and loading the same existing save - no change. I then did all that again, but I saved again before I quit to desktop, and loaded that newer save when I got into the game again - no change.

What fixed it was putting in Disc 2 again and running setup.exe. I didn't uninstall the base game or KotN/SI first; I just let the setup overwrite what was already there. When I started the game after doing that, I had the light-colored map marker in Niben Bay again. I didn't get the "I've heard a rumor" entry back in my quest list, but when I swam out to it, the island was there, and I got the "I've found a strange door" update. From there, everything proceeded normally. 73.3.58.200 08:41, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Bug[edit]

Hello, I noticed Yesterday During my Playthrough that Shivering Isle had a HUGE Problem, When I got to the gate, the NPC that comes out and fights Never showed up, which also resulted in the Guard Never Speaking to me but Mentions a voice, After going into the Gate I see Haskill, Quest Never Updated, I speak to him I get no Options, I tried using Console to Give him Topic9, Nothing, I tried doing it on me too, Nothing, So I went to Advance quest Stages via console, 20, 30, 40, 50, either at 200 or 201 I got some Options for Haskill but it wasnt involving the quest, So I ended up disabling the box you started in..... I had no Unofficial Patches, and most of my mod list involved "Morroblivion" I am not sure if Morroblivion broke it or the game broke itself. — Unsigned comment by Twistybum (talkcontribs) at 01:49 on 21 August 2023 (UTC)

It's probably the mods. Try disabling them and see if you still have the same issue on a clean save. —Legoless (talk) 10:08, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
