Jaraleet, as seen in a Hist-induced vision

Jaraleet was an ancient Argonian alchemist who lived in Hissmir. At some point he grew intensely curious about the Hist, and about the reasons why it didn't communicate with Hissmir's population. Inspired by an offhand remark from his wife, he began experimenting with Hist sap, eventually discovering a mixture that would allow him to commune with the Hist. This mixture was shared throughout Hissmir, leading to a local tradition wherein pilgrims are permitted to drink the mixture and commune with the Hist after successfully completing the three Trials of the Burnished Scales. Part of Jaraleet's life story is preserved in The Lost Communion, a book that pilgrims have to read to complete the Trial of the Mind.

Quest-Related Events[edit]

During Dreams From the Hist, the player-character consumes Hist sap and relives three memories from the mind of Jaraleet's wife. One of them involves Jaraleet finally discovering the working formula for communing with the Hist:

"My love, I've found the right mixture. You've heard it before, I know, but this time I feel it in my scales.
Drinking this will allow me … allow all of us … to commune with the Hist. We'll regain what our people list!"
Then drink, husband. Prove the worth of your words.
"I guess it's now or never."

Jaraleet drinks from a bowl of Hist sap and speaks, before walking off to the west and disappearing:

Jaraleet: "The Hist is in my mind. So strange! I must … I must …."
