Impulse (Shock)
Impulse: Release a surge of elemental energy, dealing [4610 / 4660 / 4711 / 4761] Magic Damage to nearby enemies. Fire Impulse hits Burning enemies with Impulse Afterburn, which deals more damage based on their missing Health. Frost Impulse also provides Minor Protection. Shock Impulse's damage increases based on the number of enemies hit.
Elemental Ring: Range: 28 meters, Target: Ground.
Release a surge of elemental energy, dealing [4765 / 4816 / 4869 / 4921] Magic Damage to enemies at the target location. Fire Ring hits Burning enemies with Ring Afterburn, which deals more damage based on their missing Health. Frost Ring also provides Minor Protection. Shock Ring's damage increases based on the number of enemies hit.
Pulsar: Release a surge of elemental energy, dealing 4765 Magic Damage to nearby enemies and afflicting them with Minor Mangle, reducing their Max Health by 10% for [7 / 8 / 9 / 10] seconds. Flame Pulsar hits Burning enemies with Pulsar Afterburn, which deals more damage based on their missing Health. Frost Pulsar also provides Minor Protection. Storm Pulsar's damage increases based on the number of enemies hit.

Impulse causes a ring of elemental damage that hits all enemies within range. That damage will be either Flame Damage, Cold Damage, or Shock Damage depending on the type of staff you have equipped. The Pulsar morph reduces your targets' Maximum Health, which limits the amount of health they can restore, while Elemental Ring can be cast at a target location.

This spell changes its name and icon depending on the type of staff you have equipped. Specifically, Impulse becomes:

  • ON-icon-skill-Destruction Staff-Fire Impulse.png Fire Impulse
  • ON-icon-skill-Destruction Staff-Frost Impulse.png Frost Impulse
  • ON-icon-skill-Destruction Staff-Shock Impulse.png Shock Impulse

Pulsar becomes:

  • ON-icon-skill-Destruction Staff-Flame Pulsar.png Flame Pulsar
  • ON-icon-skill-Destruction Staff-Frost Pulsar.png Frost Pulsar
  • ON-icon-skill-Destruction Staff-Storm Pulsar.png Storm Pulsar

and Elemental Ring becomes:

  • ON-icon-skill-Destruction Staff-Fire Ring.png Fire Ring
  • ON-icon-skill-Destruction Staff-Frost Ring.png Frost Ring
  • ON-icon-skill-Destruction Staff-Shock Ring.png Shock Ring

Notes[edit]

  • Impulse can be cast repeatedly in quick succession, as its casting time is instant. This makes it particularly effective at clearing away any hostiles near the caster.
  • Before Update 13, Elemental Ring dealt additional damage over time instead of being cast at a target area.
  • The Wild Impulse set from Blackrose Prison will reduce the Magicka cost and add additional damage over time.
  • Hitting a full-health enemy with Pulsar will have the effect of doing 10% of their health as damage before the Pulsar damage is applied.

Patch Notes[edit]

  • Increased the Magicka cost of Impulse and its morphs.
  • If you have spent skill points in the Impulse ability, you will have those points returned to your overall skill point pool. They can be re-spent in this ability, or invested elsewhere.
  • When an enemy is damaged first by this ability, the target(s) will now display a hit reaction.
  • Reduced the radius of this ability to 6 meters from 8 meters. The tooltip for this ability also now lists the correct radius.
  • Elemental Ring: Fixed an issue where this ability's damage over time wasn't triggering Destruction Expert.
  • Pulsar: Lower ranks of this ability no longer remove the debuff created by higher ranks of Pulsar.
  • Pulsar: This ability now applies the Minor Mangle buff to the target for 30 seconds, and the duration increases with each rank of the ability.
  • Fixed an issue where the visual effect for the health reduction would not affect the enemy health bar backgrounds. The enemy health bar backgrounds will now shrink appropriately.
  • Fixed an issue where Rank 1 of this ability could not critically strike.
  • Adjusted the order of the Active Abilities in this skill line. They now unlock in the following order:
  • Elemental Ring: This morph no longer adds a small Damage over Time component to the ability. Instead, it allows you to cast the ability at a ground-targeted location up to 28 meters away.
  • Elemental Ring: Fixed an issue where this morph was not causing alchemical poisons to proc.
  • Pulsar: Fixed an issue where Rank 1 of Flame Pulsar was not applying Minor Mangle to enemies hit.
  • Pulsar: Fixed an issue where this ability was only applying Minor Mangle to one target.
  • Increased the damage done by this ability and its morphs by approximately 25%.
  • Reduced the duration of the Minor Mangle this ability applied to 7 seconds from 30 seconds, which ranks up to 10 seconds. This morph now also increases the chance of applying the elemental type's status effect to 15%, instead of the base 5%.
  • Each elemental type of this ability and its morphs have gained new functionality.
    • Flame Impulse now deals bonus damage that scales based on missing health if the target hit was burning.
    • Frost Impulse now applies Minor Protection to up to 6 group members for 6 seconds.
    • Shock Impulse now deals 5% more damage for each enemy hit, up to 30%.
  • The Flame variants of this ability and its morphs now better describe the behavior.
  • Fixed an issue where the tooltip cost of Impulse and its morphs were 3510 without the ability slotted. Their actual cost is 3780, which updates when you apply the ability to your bar with a Destruction Staff equipped.
