There are whispers among the Soul Shriven that the Planar Vortex and the Endless Stair were built for Molag Bal by the Mad Architect himself.
The Endless Stair

The Endless Stair is Molag Bal's citadel in northern Coldharbour. It serves as his last garrison of defense for the Planemeld. At the end of this fortification lies the portal leading to the Planar Vortex. The Endless Overlook can also be found here.

The Labyrinth[edit]

Molag Bal's personal library is the first room in the Labyrinth. A parchment titled Knights of the Gleaming Blade is located just inside the entrance, next to a bookcase in front of you and on the left. If you head northwest across a series of hanging platforms, you'll find a note scrawled by a prisoner detailing how the lock mechanism for the gate to the next room works. If you haven't rescued Malkur Valos's companions from the Court of Contempt, this book will tell you how to open the gate. Otherwise, Malkur will tell you how it works. Once you reach a pillar of rock with a seal on it, you can drop down onto a columnal shelf and read How the Locks Work. A book titled The Daedric Flame is located atop a stack of books on the ground just east of the bookshelf this note is located on top of. Heading across the platforms to the east and turning north will bring you to the gate leading to the next room.

The next area is a dark room filled with living statues. You need to navigate it if you want to continue to the gate bridge. The braziers at the northwestern end of this dark hallway light when you approach.

Gate Bridge[edit]

You must cross this bridge to reach the next room. It's just a long bridge with no enemies on it, but it does grant you a view of the back-end of the Planar Vortex.

Statue Room[edit]

Statue Room

A large room full of cowering statues. The door locks behind you when you enter. A cold statue of Molag Bal himself is the room's centerpiece. A single wave of Fiend Statues will assault you and Gabrielle when you approach this statue. You must hold off two waves of moving statues while Gabrielle attempts to unlock the door at the southwestern end of the room.

Planar Vortex Portal[edit]

The Planar Vortex

You'll have to cross a bridge outside the statue room to get closer to the Planar Vortex. After you cross the bridge, Molag Bal summons five Dremora to contest you. Once they're defeated, a Guardian of Coldharbour is summoned to dispose of you. Head east, and you'll cross yet another bridge to reach the vortex. As you approach the portal, Telkor the Unforgiving flies down to stop you.
