Quest or Seperate Guide?[edit]
This page is in the Oblivion:Quests area. However, only a small portion of this page is actually quest material. I think the rest (pretty much from the Notes section down) should be its own guide under the "Gameplay Information" section of the main Oblivion:Oblivion page. --WerdnanoslenTalk 22:55, 28 October 2006 (EDT)
- Although I see your point, on the other hand Nirnroot really doesn't have any purpose in the game other than this quest, so I'm not sure that the information has much general use. And the page doesn't seem to me be so long that it has to be split up just to be manageable. So my vote would be to leave the information here. --Nephele 01:04, 29 October 2006 (EDT)
- Ok, I think I'll keep everything here; I'll just split the quest from the nirnroot stuff a bit more definitively. --WerdnanoslenTalk 22:35, 31 October 2006 (EST)
Fortify Sec. Skill[edit]
The Strong and Grand Elixers also fortify the Security skill.
- Indeed they do. Fixed. -- TheRealLurlock 23:46, 28 May 2006 (EDT)
Archmage's Chest[edit]
Does the Archmage's Chest work duplicating Nirnroot? I have tried this several times with no success and thought that Nirnroot didn't work since it wasn't a normal ingredient. Confirmation from one or more players would be great, because then I'll give it another go. --Actreal 08:41, 29 May 2006 (EDT)
- I can confirm, that it does not replicate. I tested it with one lettice and one nirnroot, the result where 11 lettice and still one nirnroot. -- The Nerevarine 10:48, 5 June 2006 (EDT)
- This is trick wrong, and as you say, all other sources tell likewise. Even ingame, when you finish the mage quest line, someone (or a note) tells you that you can't duplicate nirnroot in that box - a3w
- Nirnroot will not duplicate in the chest. I have also tried using the arrow duplication glitch to no avail. I don't think it can be duplicated in any way so there are no shortcuts in this quest. -- Vesna 19:42, 30 June 2007
there is a way to clone it, see glitches look at the clone duplication trick, ninroot copies are not usable with the quest.
Somebody test this[edit]
- You could possibly even drop them then pick them up again and be closer to your goal.
I doubt this will work, because when you see a nirnroot naturally growing, it's a plant, like any other pickable plant, only with a script that makes it disappear (and adds to your count) when you harvest it. When you drop one, it's just an ingredient like any other, with no script on it. Not removing this comment from the page until it's verified, but I'm guessing it won't work. --TheRealLurlock 11:02, 12 August 2006 (EDT)
- I'm moving the entire comment over here because none of it agrees with my experience:
-
- "You don't actually need to have the Nirnroots in your inventory when you talk to Sinderion. Merely finding them counts towards your total. You can drop them, sell them, or even eat them, and he will still thank you for them and give you the free potions and everything. Not that they're particularly useful for anything else (unless you're a Master alchemist and can make poisons), but a neat trick if you're the waste-not-want-not type. You could possibly even drop them then pick them up again and be closer to your goal."
- Although your journal keeps track of any nirnroot you collect, and your stats page always keeps a count of all the nirnroot you have ever found, that has nothing to do with them counting for Sinderion. To have them count for Sinderion, you must actually bring him the nirnroot; only if you have the nirnroot in your posession will he give you a set of potions and advance the quest. Just to be completely sure, I just tested this with my character. I have 34 nirnroot sprigs sitting in my chest in the imperial city; Sinderion currently wants 20. When I go to Skingrad without the nirnroot, he says "sorry, I can't do anything until you bring me some more nirnroot".
- While I was it, I also explicitly tested dropping the nirnroot and picking them up again. It did absolutely nothing unusual. My total nirnroot count on my stats page was unchanged; once I picked them all back up again, the number of nirnroot in my inventory was unchanged. I don't see how this is possibly supposed to help you get closer to your goal (unless possibly the contributor is playing using some unusual mod). --Nephele 12:38, 12 August 2006 (EDT)
Giant nirnroot[edit]
- "There is also a giant Nirnroot located near Kvatch down the hill."
I haven't come across any giant nirnroots. Could someone provide details on where exactly this nirnroot is supposed to be? --Nephele 12:41, 12 August 2006 (EDT)
I took the liberty of investigating this. There is indeed a single, man-sized Nirnroot northeast of Shetcombe Farm. I updated the entry to that effect. --Amon 19:55, 6 October 2006 (EDT)
I also found a Nirnroot plant half the size of a normal person, near the S and K in the actual name Skingrad on the map. 2:31, May 05, 2010
Can't sell the item to him[edit]
- The person who needs Ninroots plants.I have 16 collected so far.--ShakenMike 03:04, 21 February 2007 (EST)
- You don't directly sell him the nirnroot plants. You select the dialogue topic "Nirnroot" (and possibly other dialogue topics that come up as you talk to him). While talking to him, he will offer to pay you for the first ten plants you've collected. To get the first sample of each potion, you also don't directly buy them from him, but instead select the dialogue topic about Elixirs. --Nephele 11:09, 21 February 2007 (EST)
- I did try both topics but nothing happend.I'm I collecting the right kinds of plant?--ShakenMike 13:15, 21 February 2007 (EST)
- Do you have all the plants you've collected with you? Did he take ten of them? Did he give you a quest or assignment? Did he tell you to come back tomorrow to get some potions? Check in your journal and see what updates you have to the Seeking Your Roots quest. Try following the advice from your quest updates and exploring the different options available in the game, and you can probably figure out a lot of these questions on your own. --Nephele 13:47, 21 February 2007 (EST)

Nirnroot Options[edit]
If you have Shivering Isles expansion, you may already know that there is a plant in that expansion world which will allow you to create a potion when combined with nirnroot. You can make Drain Health and Drain Fatigue potions. So I would like to hear some opinions on the best use for nirnroot, now that there is an option for nirnroot other than Sinderion's potions....169.145.3.13 16:13, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
- It depends on your playing style, If you are an assassin, potions are the way to go. If you're a mage however, you'd probably want an elixir.-Puddle 16:32, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
- Really? what is this plants name, the one combinable with nirnroot i mean?Lewbot1 16:58, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
- It is Unrefined Greenmote, but it only has two effects in common, however, they make the only drain-effect potions in the game.-Puddle 17:28, 2 June 2008 (EDT)

Duping[edit]
I have discovered, without explanation, a duplication glitch for nirnroot. I don't know how it works, but I had 2 NR then 1 NR in my ingrediants(seemed to be 2 varieties) you can make a 4 effect potion with them. 1 of the varieties,(in my case the varieity with a quantity of one) is stackable and can be duplicated. I have all plugins. May or may not have to do with taking nirnroot from my permaclone (i can remember on this save file getting one from Deepscrorn Hallow one from Batllehorn castle and one from my clone. I may or may not do testing on this -- 0.X3r0.0 8 effect poisons anyone?
64.12.116.13 20:57, 7 August 2008 (EDT)
- What you're describing is either due to a third-party mod or else it's caused by random save file corruption (in which case it's unreproducible and not noteworthy). I say that because there is only ingredient named "Nirnroot" that is defined in the construction set (and therefore only one that exists anywhere in the game, including any of the official mods). Every case where an ingredient appears twice in your alchemy list is caused by having two different definitions of that ingredient in the game's construction set, with two different FormIDs. Your second type of Nirnroot should not exist and you can't explain how it appeared, therefore the information does not belong in the article. --NepheleTalk 23:54, 7 August 2008 (EDT)
-
- Not sure if this is the case in Oblivion, but I recall that in Morrowind, if multiple items are identical (same CS entry, same ID, etc.), but the item has a script on it (any script at all, even a very basic one that doesn't do anything), those items will not stack, and you will see multiples both in your inventory and when you go to make potions from them. (This also applies to identical weapons and armor which have taken damage, etc.) The most commonly seen example of this is the cursed gems, which you could ultimately end up with 4-5 each of in your inventory. Is there perhaps some way that a script could have been applied to an item via the permaclone? Or perhaps in Oblivion's case, ownership flags might have the same effect? (Since the ones taken from the permaclone might technically count as "stolen".) If not, I'd say it is most likely a mod issue. (If a mod added a script to Nirnroots, that would do it, I think.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 00:05, 8 August 2008 (EDT)
grass view distance bar[edit]
What in the world is a grass view distance bar? :
- "Sliding your grass view distance bar to 0 makes searching for Nirnroot much easier, as the Nirnroots are considered objects and not foliage. This means that the Nirnroot will continue to be visible, while grass and other ground plants will not be rendered."
Travb 00:38, 9 September 2008 (EDT)

Sinderons Barter Option has Vanished[edit]
I just completed the NR quest (100 NR given to him and recieved the free grand elixer) and sinderons barter option has vanished... is this a bug or does it happen for every1? This means i cant buy any potions off him and possibly cant even invest in his store (thats the main annoying thing-I'm aiming for 100% completion). — Unsigned comment by 87.112.229.114 (talk) on 12 December 2008
- It's definitely a bug, but it's a rare one since you're the first person to mention it. You could try waiting outside for 72 hours and seeing if anything resets, or even just fast-traveling away and then back again. There's nothing I know of that should stop him selling. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 03:52, 13 December 2008 (EST)
oblivion map[edit]
I didn't notice anything about the nirnroot being found on the oblivion map, is it there? Where would be best place to add it? Ok then, do it when you have the time. — Unsigned comment by 67.183.28.2 (talk) on 30 May 2009
- What are you referring to? The Nirnroot are on the maps. And there is a map on the Nirnroot page. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 18:05, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
Giant Nirnroot[edit]
This is more of a question than an Addition.. as well as a spoiler.. I found a Giant Nirnroot located between the S and the K in Skingrad on the map. — Unsigned comment by 24.124.58.49 (talk) on 29 June 2010
- The largest plants are already documented at Oblivion:Nirnroot#Outdoor. --NepheleTalk 04:06, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Nirnroot Plugin Counter[edit]
Anyone know whether we can see how many nirnroots we collected so far? Possibly in some plugin? Andwan0 18:17, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Talking to Sinderion[edit]
I've just been redirected to Sinderion, but he's inside his cellar, which is locked all day, and he does not get outside, or at least, I haven't seen him outside.
I used "unlock" with the console but after talking to him and giving him the roots (which he was very happy about finding), he sent the guards after me, that wasn't nice of him...
I reloaded the save and I'm still outside, waiting for him to come out.
May this be a bug?
Drzego: 188.85.163.68 20:37, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- He never leaves the cellar, but it should be open from 8am to 10pm each day. If not, go out of the inn, wait for an hour then try again. rpeh •T•C•E• 08:28, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
Journal won't update.[edit]
So, I've got more than enough Nirnroots. But my journal entry won't update for when I need to bring him the Nirnroots the second time. Is there a way I can work around this? I've tried going directly to him (even though it didn't update) but he wasn't in his cellar. I've only attempted this once, so I don't know if I should try again or what.99.95.4.205 22:53, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Sinderion's vendor supply bug[edit]
I found that once the Strong Elixir of Exploration part of the quest is complete, Sinderion will have an inexhaustible supply of the Strong Elixir for sale, but only the strong elixir, as both the moderate and weak ones exhaust their supply in his inventory normally. Buying his last strong elixir will not remove it from his vendor list, allowing for infinite purchases. 24.156.216.144 16:33, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Map marker[edit]
I started out with map markers denoting alchemists, but after picking a few (I needed to return with a sample), the markers disappeared, and instead a green outdoors marker sent me to a seemingly random spot in the middle of the wilderness, a bit south-east of Skingrad. The target location was not visible on the game-map, and I had to follow the marker to actually see where it ended up, and there is obviously nothing there.
