Ingredient maps[edit]

Is anyone interested in helping to create comprehensive maps of alchemy ingredients? — Unsigned comment by Zengie (talkcontribs) at 13:37 on 7 April 2006

I don't think making them by hand is such a good idea...(it's just that there's way too many ingredients to ever mark them by hand, it's a job for one single tallented modder to create a mod that will simply generate these maps automatically.)
I'd rather be interested in complete Nirnroot locations map. — Unsigned comment by Vook (talkcontribs) at 09:33 on 13 May 2006
FYI, these maps now exist on the individual ingredient pages. See Ingredients for a list of all the ingredients and links to their individual pages (and thanks for calling me a talented modder... not that I've ever created a mod :) ). Nirnroot maps can be found on Seeking Your Roots, and also every individual Nirnroot plant in the game is mapped on the (map). --NepheleTalk 14:23, 15 April 2007 (EDT)

Web storage quotas[edit]

Can the people who link these maps please try to find web storage that has less (or no) limits on the transfer quotas? Not much point having a map up here if 95% of the time it's unavailable due to being over quota. Endareth 22:58, 11 April 2006 (EDT)

If I get chance and remember I'll try uploading the files to the site in the near future. -- DaveH 00:37, 12 April 2006 (EDT)
call me a noob but im pretty sure i have some oblivion gates marked on my game map that are not on these maps. do the gates move with each game? i dont know if this is the right place to mention this if not please delete it or move it thanks zelldeb — Unsigned comment by Zelldeb (talkcontribs) at 09:14 on 13 May 2006
They get re-randomized each game. Besides gates that pop up always, there is a hundred or so of predefined gate locations from which about half (randomly chosen) appear, get randomized on game startup. The map is supposed to list all these possible locations so there's a good chance you won't find a gate at marked location but you shouldn't find unmapped gates. If you actually do, please contact map author to have them placed. (likely preferably with screenshot with ingame map showing the new gate mark).
I also have a feeling it's the same case with Nirnroot, except about 90% of possible nirnroot appears. I mean, there were some places where I was SURE I had picked Nirnroot in previous game and now as I play, it just wasn't there. — Unsigned comment by Vook (talkcontribs) at 09:42 on 13 May 2006

Maps Of Alyeid Ruins And Caves[edit]

I think it would be better if there were maps for caves and stuff so you can find things out easier and it could help you out on different quests like the statue collector mission where you have to find the crowns of the last alyid kings and bring them back to Umbacano. --— Unsigned comment by 86.145.131.252 (talk)

There are. Check the page of any ruin, cave, or other location and they all have maps. See Places for the complete list of locations. --TheRealLurlock Talk 13:13, 15 April 2007 (EDT)

Roadmap[edit]

I've just posted an alpha version of a roadmap I've been making. I've always been irritated by the fact that the game maps show only major routes; this is my first shot at filling in some of the blanks.

Currently the only locations marked are settlements with more than one house. (That probably shouldn't include Drad's and Rugdumph's estates, actually, but I'll work it out as I go.) Petrushka 20:38, 12 May 2007 (EDT)

The roadmap is now finished. I've posted an update which I've called "beta" as in "feature-complete"; caves, mines, and wayshrines remain unmarked, but I never intended to include them. I don't anticipate further additions/corrections but am open to suggestions. Petrushka 20:48, 8 September 2007 (EDT)

Map Marker Key/Legend needed.[edit]

Even though the quests etc have maps for them, there is no key explaining what the dots are markers represent. 60.234.223.209 18:03, 28 May 2007 (EDT)

There's a new project getting underway, Oblivion Places Redesign Project, which will update all the place maps so that what is shown on the maps is more useful and will also add legends for all the maps. It may take a while to complete, though, because there are a lot of places to map and describe. --NepheleTalk 19:30, 28 May 2007 (EDT)

Strange ship[edit]

If you look very slightly to the northeast of the ayleid ruin of Belaburo near Anvil, there is a crashed pirateship. Should this be marked on the online map?--Willyhead 15:51, 13 June 2007 (EDT)

German Mod Map[edit]

since I don't know if it's of interest to the international Community, ill put the link back here for now: PlanetOblivion.de published a GoogleMap of German Plugin locations at the PO-Modmap. Elim Garak — Unsigned comment by 79.210.178.111 (talk) at 06:34 on 27 July 2021

Since the PlanetOblivion.de map is only for third-party mods, it's not a link that belongs on the main article. --NepheleTalk 01:13, 15 February 2008 (EST)
That's what I thought. There's another thing: I'm getting requests for an English edition of the plugin map, but i neither have manpower nor server capacity to do it. Is anyone here willing to start such a project? -- Garak 01:33, 16 February 2008 (EST)
Most of our regular editors, especially the ones who've been involved with creating our maps, are already pretty busy (as far as I know). And especially with the map being specifically for mods, it's not something that would benefit UESP. You might get more interest at the CS Wiki ... but even there, I think most of the people are pretty busy with some major site reorganization. Or maybe at Oblivionmodwiki. Of course, anybody who stumbles across this note and is interested is free to get in touch with you. I'm just not sure how likely it is that it will happen. --NepheleTalk 14:41, 17 February 2008 (EST)
Though one could argue about the benefit (I'd say though well writen lore is important, it were the mods that made the huge success of MW and OB), I agree that a plugin site will probably be the better target for such a map. The thought was simply that the UESP already has the GMap expertise. By the way: most of us people who keep fansites running are really busy - you know best it doesn't work with out a lot of work ;-) -- Garak 16:33, 19 February 2008 (EST)
I'd be willing to add a mod location map but it would be seperate from the existing OB/SI maps. Really all I need is a list of the locations and names (preferrably english). Can be any format like a CSV or text file. -- Daveh 16:26, 17 February 2008 (EST)
So you'd volunteer as the technical workhorse? Sounds great, but we'd need to motivate the modders to make coordinate lists - you get really dizzy after searching a bunch of mods you haven't created for map points of interest. I'll point the guys who suggested the english map to this discussion, maybe they can help... --Garak 16:33, 19 February 2008 (EST)
Nod...I wasn't suggesting of doing the searching/inputting of locations myself. Once someone has the info, though, it is relatively easy to dump into the database format I need. -- Daveh 17:11, 19 February 2008 (EST)

County Line Map[edit]

Hi guys... I was making this map for personal use and was directed over here because "...the guys at the Lore forum would love to take a look at [my] map". I also thought the people here at the map forum would find it of interest. My problem was the definity of the borders of the various counties, which are all of ambiguous. Any help in that area and overall judgement of my job would be greatly appreciated, thanks! Oh, and feel free to use it, all I ask is for credit and a little notice saying you're using it. In game Oblivion map using Google API?[edit]

I think that a lot of people could find this useful because when your looking on your map in game comparing it to the high def oblivion map using Google API its hard to find and mark where it is --just throwing it out there because i don't know how to do it and i think it would be useful to many Masterx3829 11:35, 3 June 2009 (EDT)

It might be possible to hack something something like the online map into the game using OBSE but my guess is you'd have to implement the needed features in OBSE yourself as you go. In other words, it might be possible but it wouldn't be easy.
A simple offline version of the map, as a few people have requested, would be easier but it's still in the realm of "too much effort for too little gain" (at least for me). -- Daveh 14:05, 3 June 2009 (EDT)

Dasek Moor (and maybe other places)[edit]

Shouldn't Dasek Moor (and anywhere else where the place says it's one thing on the map and another on the article) be changed (for example Dasek Moor would be a fort on the map and on it's page) ?--TheAlbinoOrc 00:03, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

It is displayed as a mine in the Oblivion map since that is how you actually see the marker in-game. I don't think it needs to be changed since it would take away the consistency of how you see some markers in-game. --S'drassa T2M 01:59, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Actually I wasn't thinking the marker, I was wondering if someone with map edit rights could change the little thing next to the name saying what it is, sorry about being unclear about that.--TheAlbinoOrc 19:39, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, the icon and the text label are tied to each other. One cannot be changed without changing the other. --Timenn-<talk> 12:21, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh. Sorry about that then.--TheAlbinoOrc 17:50, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Oblivion StreetView?[edit]

Has anybody thought about or planned (I'm assuming it hasn't already been done because I can't find it) making a StreetView for Oblivion? Obviously it would be tedious and take some time, but I can see how on the PC somebody could easily just map the marked roads and the main cities for starters... This map could be added as a resource on the main map, giving various locations a "street view" option. This way you could see what is around the location to get a better feel for where it is. Only problem is I'm not sure how you would go about compiling the images... Stouf761 23:00, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

It is possible to create and use a custom street view tile set but, as you mentioned, the biggest step is the initial capturing of the images. For the base map there is already a built-in command in the construction set for outputting the tiles. For a street view this would have to be done manually (tedious and long) and/or scripts written to help make it easier/faster. If someone manages to build a decent amount of street view tiles I can see what I can do about adding the feature to the map. -- Daveh 01:04, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
The suggestion has been made before, but I don't think it's practical. Google can drive around and get the images automatically, but we'd have to go along each road and path, stopping every few metres to take 360 degree shots. It's more of a "cool" feature than a useful one, too. Far too much effort for no major reward. rpeh •TCE 11:40, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
Would there be any mod that could give you a constant 360 degree view? Cause if so then I could also see somebody just making a program outside of oblivion to take a screenshot every certain number of seconds while in game the person could just walk along without taking the trouble to stop every time. Stouf761 23:47, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm gonna say "No" to that, and wait for someone to prove me wrong. You also need to remember that your 360° view changes from scene to scene, and that it won't be rendered until you look at it. In other words.... no. this isn't gonna happen unless somebody takes the images. Are you volunteering? rpeh •TCE 00:09, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
I don't have the PC version... But if there isn't a quick easy way then oh well. Stouf761 01:14, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

In-Game Map Zooming?[edit]

In the Oblivion Journal Map, both for World and Local Area, is it possible to zoom in or out without a mod? I've tried using the mouse wheel and I can't find an appropriate "Shift + (Key)" or "CTRL + (Key)" combo in the manual. Predcon 01:26, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

No. Legoless 02:05, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
I'll look at TESN to see if there's a mod for it, then. Doubtful, though, since it looks like a function not easily modified. Predcon 02:40, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Many of the GUI mods make the map bigger, if that would help you. Legoless 11:24, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Size Matters[edit]

Does anyone know how big, in square miles, the play area in oblivion is? I would appreciate greatly if someone could give me a rough estimate, as I'm terrible at this sort of thing.--Playerjjjj (talk) 15:06, 16 September 2012 (GMT)Playerjjjj

"According to a Microsoft press release, Oblivion's game world is approximately 16 square miles (41 square kilometers) in size."Legoless (talk) 15:34, 16 September 2012 (GMT)
Thank you. I'm quite surprised! That's one big world out there.--Playerjjjj (talk) 00:16, 17 September 2012 (GMT)Playerjjjj

Question about online map and Great Gate[edit]

(this question is about "Oblivion Online Map -- Our high resolution Oblivion map using the Google Map API")

It's strange that the Great Gate doesn't get a map marker like all the other stuff - Meisterdieb (talk) 23:56, 1 March 2013 (GMT)

The great gate doesn't get a map marker because it doesn't have one on the in-game map. Only places marked in-game get marked on the online map.--Playerjjjj (talk) 02:15, 15 March 2013 (GMT)Playerjjjj

Local maps without annotations[edit]

Is there any way to get the local maps without the annotations added? I'm actually using UESP as a resource for a tabletop rpg I'm doing with my group, and the maps are a great help, but the annotations are both distracting and give stuff away. I've searched endlessly for this and come up empty handed. The fandom ES wiki has many of the Oblivion local maps with no annotations, but only for about half or so of the locations. Any help is appreciated. — Unsigned comment by 207.237.224.251 (talk) at 20:33 on 20 April 2019

Notes on text for interior and local exterior maps[edit]

I recently recreated one of the local exterior maps from new screenshots. My understanding is that the original, "blank" local exterior and interior maps are no longer available. I'm not sure if any more of these maps will ever need editing, but I wanted to document what I found to be a reasonable approximation to the existing maps.
